James Holloway DeLeon IV was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to a mother who holds a Masters in Education and a father who is a Municipal Court Judge. He has been actively involved in the performing arts since grammar school. His first major role as an actor was in a sixth grade production of C.S. Lewis' "The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe" where he played "Mr. Beaver".

In high school, James started focusing on acting as a career, training with the renowned Freedom Theater in Philadelphia. He was subsequently accepted into the prestigious Conservatory of Acting at State University of New York - Purchase College, where he graduated with a B.F.A. in Theatre Arts & Film. He began his training with Freedom Theater in Philadelphia, where he received a writing credit for his work with award-winning playwright Lynn Nottage, developing the play A Walk Through Time.

James is a versatile performer whose credits include film, television, theater, and commercials. He was cast in Scott Rudin's Freedomland, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Julianne Moore. He appears in Aleta Chappelle's documentary Harlem Children's Theater, and is slated to perform in her upcoming film Macbett. James stars in short films that have enjoyed tremendous success; The Cycle and The Roe Effect are televised on HBO, and Jackson Parish aired on BET. For his performance in Jackson Parish, James won a Craft Award at NYU's 2010 First Run Film Festival. On Network TV, he co-starred opposite Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay in Law & Order: SVU, Episode "Undercover". James has recurred on ABC's One Life To Live as well.

Variety praised James for his "keenly drawn hostile edge" as the lead in the play, History of the Word, at the Tony Award-winning Crossroads Theater. For his performance in Fences, The Philadelphia Inquirer noted his "compelling intensity" and praised his scenes as "the show's best". He was pictured in The New York Time's for his portrayal of Malcolm in Shakespeare's Macbeth, and in A Few Good Men, his powerful performance contributed to bringing the audience to a standing ovation every night.

James has been featured in television commercials for Sprint, Olive Garden, and MTV. He has also supplied voice-overs for AT&T, 9IX cologne by Jay-Z, McDonald's, Boostup.org and the US Army. In addition, James has done print work, including an ad in Men's Health magazine for MBNA.
