Frank Mir Calls Out Brock Lesnar For 3rd Fight

Frank Mir has gone and followed in the footsteps of Alstair Overeem, the last man to beat him (and Brock Lesnar) in the octagon, and called out the current WWE champion for another fight in the Ufc.

That’s right, Mir has called out Brock Lesnar for one last go, which would be the rubber match in their potential trilogy, currentlynnnnnnnn tied with each fighter having one win a piece. Mir defeated Lesnar in the wrestling star’s Ufc debut, but Lesnar got his revenge in front of the largest Ufc PPV audience in history at Ufc 100. Lesnar would go on to be the most successful Ufc champ to date (tied with Tim Sylvia, Randy Couture, and Cain Velasquez), while Mir’s career would wind up in a tailspin – the once feared heavyweight is currently on an 0-4 stretch. A streak like that usually means a quick exit from the promotion, »

10 Lessons Learned From Ufc Fight Night: Bader vs. St. Preux

16 August 2014 11:21 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

It was the Ufc’s first trip to Maine, home state of former heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia (who campaigned hard to appear on the card to no avail, as he has not fought in the promotion in years). That marks the 32nd state the promotion has visited, in addition to numerous countries around the globe.

Along the way to the main event, “Smiling” Sam Alvey and Tom Watson put on a great battle for fans where there was really no loser, Sara McMann picked up her first win since her title fight loss to Ronda Rousey, and Thiago Tavares picked up his second submission in a row to open the main card.

Later in the night, Shawn Jordan picked up a much needed win at heavyweight, and debuting fighter and former male model Alan Jouban shocked us all, knocking out opponent and Ufc/Ifl vet Seth Baczynski, proving once again »

Ufc: Brandon Vera Out After Eight Years

According to a report by Fox Sports, Brandon Vera, who once promised to hold a belt in two weight classes in the Ufc, has been released by the promotion – or two be more specific, the two sides have “cut ties.”

Vera started his tenure with the company in 2005, at Ultimate Fight Night 2 where he won via Ko against Fabiano Scherner. After a 3-0 run at heavyweight, it was announced that his next match, against Frank Mir, would be a title eliminator.

It looked like Vera’s promise of holding two belts would have a chance of coming to fruition – especially after he won the Mir fight by Tko. However, a contract dispute saw him lose his shot at the belt. He would then suffer the first two losses of his career, to Tim Sylvia and Fabricio Werdum, before dropping to light heavyweight.

He would go 4-4 (1) at light heavyweight »

Ufc/Pride Legend Cro Cop To Face Ishii In Japan

17 June 2014 12:18 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Pride legend and former Ufc fighter Cro Cop is heading back to Japan!

A bout between Pride legend Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipović and Olympic Judo gold medal winner Satoshi Ishii has been announced for August’s Inoki Genome Fight 2 in Japan. The heavyweight clash takes place August 23rd in Tokyo.

Cro Cop is 1-1 since leaving the Ufc and briefly retiring from competition in Mma, a period that saw him heading back to the kickboxing realm. There, he would enter and later win the K-1 2012 Grand Prix. In the midst of the tournament (which spans several months), Filipović returned to the Mma world and beat the unknown Shinichi Suzukawa in 2012, before losing to Oleksiy Oliynyk the following year (Oliynyk earned himself a Ufc contract after that fight).

The legendary fighter struggled in his Ufc appearances, and would later openly admit that he was unhappy with how he performed in the promotion, »
