A slew of new faces has been added to the cast of Rose McGowan's next project, "Napa." Well, they're familiar faces, but faces nonetheless!
Variety reports that Sean "Samwise Gamgee" Astin will be joining Taryn Manning, Kevin Pollak and Johnathon Schaech in the indie thriller. Manning, who first broke through in "8 Mile," recently starred in "The Perfect Age of Rock 'n' Roll"; Schaech previously shared the screen with McGowan in Gregg Araki's hyper-violent and sexy '95 film "The Doom Generation."
The film is based on writer and professor Hans Ostrom's novel "Three to Get Ready," a title that will unfortunately get the Stray Cats stuck in your head for days. Ostrom, who's a professor at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, and first-time director Michael Kerr worked together on adapting the novel. The two met in a screenwriting workshop in the '90s.

We first heard about the romantic thriller Napa in October, when Rose McGowan signed on to star. The independent production has started shooting on location in Napa Valley, and a few more actors of note have joined the project. Variety reports Sean Astin, Kevin Pollak, Johnathon Schaech, and Taryn Manning will round out the cast. The story centers on "a woman (McGowan) who has recently returned from three Afghanistan military tours and is given the job of sheriff in her Napa hometown." Napa is the directorial debut of Michael Kerr. Kerr co-wrote the script with Hans Ostrom. Nellie Nugiel (Greek) is producing. »

Actress Rose McGowan has signed on to play a hometown sheriff in a new mystery movie.
The Conan The Barbarian villainness will play a good girl cop, fresh from three tours of duty in Afghanistan in director Michael Kerr's Napa, according to Variety.

The actress will headline the romantic thriller "Napa," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
McGowan plays a discharged solider who returns to her hometown and takes up the job of sheriff. Interesting! (And very strange.)
The "Charmed" star has been trying to find her stride, appearing in "Conan the Barbaian" and making guest appearances on "Law & Order: Svu."

Rose McGowan looks set to return to her butt-kicking best in Michael Kerr‘s Napa. The film is based on Hans Ostrom‘s novel Three to Get Ready, a novel the Fulbright scholar published through small imprint Cliffhanger Press back in 1991. Ostrom and Kerr have adapted the script together, and producer Kerr will also use the film as his feature directorial debut. Not much is known about the book beyond its basic logline – it “centers around Scarlett Harding (McGowan) who gets a job as Sheriff in her hometown of Napa after returning from three military tours of Afghanistan.” It’s not known if the film will be set in the timeframe the book covered, with Scarlett returning from her military service in the early 90s, or if it will be moved more towards present day.
