Olga Dykhovichnaya and Ariyon Bakare have joined the cast of the sci-fi thriller "Life" at Sony Pictures and Skydance Productions.

Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, Rebecca Ferguson and Hiroyuki Sanada star as members of the crew of the International Space Station who are tasked with studying a sample from Mars that may be the first proof of extraterrestrial life.

That life proves more intelligent than ever expected. Daniel Espinosa is directing from a script by "Deadpool" scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.

David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn are producing and shooting kicked off Tuesday at London's Shepperton Studios ahead of a March 2017 release.

Jake Gyllenhaal Sci-Fi Life Beefs Up Cast With Olga Dykhovichnaya And Ariyon Bakare

20 July 2016 8:02 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Hollywood’s summer blockbuster season may be in full effect, with marquee releases in the vein of Star Trek Beyond and Suicide Squad being readied for release over the next fortnight or so, but it won’t be long before moviegoers will be knee-deep in award-tipped science fiction.

Passengers, for instance, is one that immediately springs to mind – not lest because it stars Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, arguably two of the most in-demand stars of the moment – while Julius Onah’s God Particle is also harboring plenty of promise. Further down the pipeline is Daniel Espinosa’s sci-fi thriller Life, which has now welcomed aboard Olga Dykhovichnaya and Ariyon Bakare (Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell) to its appropriately starry ensemble.

Set to launch into orbit in March of next year, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Dykhovichnaya and Bakare will be rubbing shoulders with Jake Gyllenhaal on the International Space Station and, »

J.J. Abrams Won’t Re-Cast Anton Yelchin’s Role in ‘Star Trek’ Movies

19 July 2016 2:59 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Producer J.J. Abrams has decided that Anton Yelchin’s Pavel Chekov character will not be re-cast for future “Star Trek” movies.

“I would say there’s no replacing him,” Abrams told the Toronto Sun. “There’s no recasting. I can’t possibly imagine that, and I think Anton deserves better.”

The late Anton Yelchin, who died June 19 in a freak accident, had played the Chekov character in the three reboots. “Star Trek Beond,” the third film in the revamped franchise premieres on Wednesday at Comic-Con in San Diego and opens in theaters on Friday.

Abrams told the newspaper he could not disclose if the next “Star Trek” film would include the death of Chekov’s character. “I have thought about it, we’re working on it, and it’s too early to talk about it,” he said.

Paramount makes 'Star Trek 4' official, Chris Hemsworth's Kirk to return

18 July 2016 11:18 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Justin Lin's Star Trek Beyond isn't in theaters just yet, but Paramount Pictures, Skydance, and Bad Robot have announced Star Trek 4 is a go and will feature returning star Chris Hemsworth as George Kirk. Over the weekend I wrote about J.J. Abrams making the big reveal that Hemsworth, currently starring in Ghostbusters, would be sharing the screen with Chris Pine in the next Star Trek film. I thought there was a chance he might be playing an entirely new character but with Paramount's announcement today they've confirmed, he'll be back as James T. Kirk's father. Now it looks like we're back to the simplest explanation - time travel. From their press release: In the next installment of the epic space adventure, Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk will cross paths with a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father. »

Star Trek 4: Paramount Officially Confirms Chris Hemsworth's Return

18 July 2016 8:16 AM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

With Star Trek Beyond hitting theaters this week, Paramount has gone ahead and confirmed that work on a fourth Star Trek film (in this timeline) has already begun and that Chris Hemsworth will indeed return as Kirk's father, along with the rest of the cast.

Well, this is kind of interesting.  Over the weekend, as the press junkets were going down for Star Trek Beyond, producer Jj Abrams revealed that fourth film in the series would see Chris Hemsworth return to the franchise.  Hemsworth (known for his work as Marvel's Thor) appeared in the first Star Trek reboot (2009), portraying Captain Kirk's father briefly before dying on screen; the first of many big changes to the Trek timeline in the new films.

James T. Kirk's dad has since played a role in the character's life/decisions ever since, and is referenced pretty heavily in the marketing for Star Trek Beyond. »

Star Trek Beyond TV Spot Sends a Warning from Krall

17 July 2016 3:37 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

In just five short days, Star Trek Beyond will hit theaters, and it has already gotten plenty of high praise in early reactions from several of the nation's critics. Of course, we'll have to wait until July 22 to find out how fans across the world respond to this sequel, but to get everyone read for this release, a new TV spot has debuted, which features Idris Elba as the villainous Krall. However, this video features a much different look at this character.

We have previously seen Krall in a number of trailers and and other pieces of footage, but this TV spot reveals Krall offering a warning, that the Federation may never see him again, but if they do, they should "be ready." The most interesting thing is that Krall delivers this message in a human form, looking much different than the alien creature Krall we've seen in the past. »

Star Trek Beyond Early Reactions Call It Big, Bold, and Lots of Fun

14 July 2016 1:04 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

In just eight short days, Star Trek Beyond will hit theaters nationwide. Last night, Paramount held a critics screening for this sci-fi sequel. While full reviews are still forthcoming, several critics offered their early reactions on social media. For those who might be on the fence about this new adventure, which brings in a new director (Justin Lin) and writers (Simon Pegg and Doug Jung), these critics had overwhelmingly positive reactions to the film.

Following the screening last night, a number of film critics took to Twitter to reveal their early thoughts about this new Star Trek adventure. While there are no spoilers for the movie itself in the tweets below, it is revealed that the movie honored the late Leonard Nimoy and Star Trek Beyond star Anton Yelchin, who was tragically killed in a freak accident last month. However, these early reactions don't address a controversial topic that was first announced earlier this month. »

Star Trek Beyond Preview Introduces New Villain Krall

12 July 2016 12:22 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Back in April, director Justin Lin revealed that his new sci-fi sequel Star Trek Beyond will "deconstruct" the entire Star Trek franchise, which celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year. Of course, he wouldn't offer too many details about what exactly will be deconstructed, but today we get a few hints in a sneak preview, featuring the director, actor/screenwriter Simon Pegg and Idris Elba discussing his villainous new character Krall. This preview sheds some light on why Krall is such a unique villain, while confirming that he does in fact destroy the U.S.S. Enterprise.

Idris Elba revealed in this featurette, which comes courtesy of YouTube, that he felt like he was "destroying a legacy" by watching the U.S.S. Enterprise "crash and burn." When this rebooted franchise started, the Enterprise ship was Ncc-1701, and not the original Nx-01 from the original TV series. During an interview from April, »
