Director Sebastian Cordero, producer Ben Browning, and Karolina Wydra talk Europa Report at Comic-Con. The term "found footage" has a stigma attached to it these days. As in, it's become a crutch for poorly-funded filmmakers to lean on instead of a tool with which they can tell a story. With any luck, "Europa Report" will change that. Shot in a quickly-built spaceship over just eighteen days in Brooklyn, Sebastian Cordero's movie ran eight cameras, all at the same time. The film is about a commercial space mission to Europa, the moon that circles Jupiter that scientists think has the greatest chance, of all the other bodies in the solar system other than Earth, of producing life. In fact, science plays a huge part in "Europa Report" »
Europa, here we come!
Unlike other space mission movies, “Europa Report” may be considered as one of the most realistic movies to date.
The discussion focused on the realistic production of the movie and the eerie feelings of space and space travel.
“Europa Report” will be in theaters on August 2nd and is already On Demand.
Check out the roundtable interview below:

It's relatively rare for a science fiction movie to involve actual science, but Europa Report is one such. The panel was hosted by astronomer Dr Phil Plait, and the footage backed up the claims that this film takes science seriously. Director Sebastian Cordero, producer Ben Browning, composer Bear McCreary, Karolina Wydra, and science consultants Kevin Hand and Steve Vance made up the panel. The trailer, which is already online, shows the film starting as another space exploration before things go badly wrong when the expedition drills beneath the ice. It also suggests that at least one character goes adrift in space without a tie to his ship, making a match this year with Gravity. People, if you're in space, please remember to tie your safety laces."We had an idea that it would be cool to do a movie about first contact that didn't cheat anything. Initially we didn't know »

Maryelizabeth Hart of Mysterious Galaxy leads a discussion with Comic-Con special guest Christine Feehan (The Dark Series), Claudia Gray (Spellcaster), Aprilynne Pike (Earthbound), Lauren Kate (The Fallen Novels), Kendare Blake (Antigoddess), and Magnus Flyte (City of Dark Magic).

Cut off from contact with Earth, one crew member dead and bound for unknown territory: Jupiter's moon of Europa, where ice and potential life may exist.
The six astronauts at the core of Sebastián Cordero's new independent sci-fi adventure "Europa Report" have some big challenges ahead of them, but even greater feats of derring-do were performed by the cast and crew during our visit to the set in December 2011. It was Day 16 of a very brisk 18-day shoot at the newly christened Cine Magic Stages in Riverfront Studios at the edge of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and some scary stuff was afoot.
1. A Spaceship in Brooklyn
This is not something you see every day, but the filmmakers built this three-story marvel from scratch. We enter it via a climb-up on a gantry that was, by the way, not secured to anything, making it the wobbliest, scariest steps any of us had ever experienced. »
