"Suburgatory" has been renewed for Season 2 and Zap2it got a chance to chat with creator Emily Kapnek about what's coming. Kapnek was surprisingly open about what the writers have planned, including a hook up for George (Jeremy Sisto) and Dallas (Cheryl Hines), and Tessa's (Jane Levy) mother playing a prominent role.
Kapnek says she's looking for the perfect woman to play Tessa's mom and she didn't want to rush by doing it in the first season. "When we come back, we'll probably do a bit of a leap ahead and do some flashback stuff to how that plays out."
She also tells us that, though it won't be a joint custody thing, Tessa will be spending some time with her mom. George has a bit of empty nest syndrome, right about the same time that Dallas does. "This could set the stage for some really fun stuff."

Mother’s Day might have been last Sunday, but the people of Chatswin are celebrating it on tonight’s season finale of Suburgatory. And since the ABC sitcom is set in the suburbs, Mother’s Day is a big deal that, rather fittingly, is wrapped into a big contest amongst the town’s wacky constellation of characters. “It’s a full-town competition to prove whose mother is loved the most,” explains star Ana Gasteyer, who recently was upped from recurring to series regular for playing quirky, perfection-obsessed mother Sheila Shay. “There’s this totally asinine situation, with just days and »

What started as a guest role on the new ABC comedy series "Suburgatory," quickly became a regular part for Ana Gasteyer. Producers were so pleased with her perfectionistic next-door neighbor Sheila Shay, she has had an increasing presence on the show throughout this season. The laffer centers on George Altman (Jeremy Sisto) who moves his teen daughter Tessa (Jane Levy) to the suburbs away from the big bad city. Their new neighbors are the Shays, with Gasteyer's former "Saturday Night Live" co-star Chris Parnell as her husband plus Allie Grant and Parker Young as their children. In a video chat with senior editors Rob Licuria and Chris Beachum, Gasteyer said, "The show has quite a bit of heart and quite a bit of tenderness to it, which for a half-hour comedy is actually what makes it such a fun environment to work in because it's all not just like a laugh box. »

Suburgatory 1.20 "Hear No Evil" Review
The end of the season stretch can be pretty influential on the path of a freshman show like Suburgatory. By the time you get to the final few installments of your debut season, you tend to know what works, what doesn't work, and what seeds need to be planted before next season. It's a lot of information to have to sort through, but if you fumble badly enough, it can leave a sour taste in the mouth of your audience, a taste that could take an entire summer hiatus to get over.
"Hear No Evil" wasn't exactly a fumble, stumble, or bumble, but it felt like a step back from the show's recent creative hot streak. A typical episode of Suburgatory has a whole lot going on, all bright colors and loud noises, but there was just a bit too much here, too many plots »

Ausiello: “Everybody’s in jeopardy,” teases Sarah Drew (April) of the May 17 climax. “There are three or four people who are not [involved] in the cliffhanger at the end of the episode. But every other cast member, like nine of us, are all in this — [so] who knows what’s going to happen, »

On Saturday night I had the pleasure of attending the world premiere of the new film Struck By Lightning at the Tribeca Film Festival. I was excited to see the movie for a few reasons: first, it was written by and stars Glee's Chris Colfer, a young talent who has continually impressed me and from whom I am interested in seeing more. Second, the film was directed by Brian Dannelly, the genius behind Saved!, one of the greatest (and gayest) high school comedies ever made. And third, I like to support film festivals and independent movies whenever I can, because I know how hard it can be for them to find an audience.
Though finding an audience was not even remotely a problem, in this case. The sold-out show was a complete madhouse - red carpet arrivals, throngs of screaming fans clamoring to get a glimpse of Kurt Hummel in the flesh, »

"I'm a masochist." So said Chris Colfer to laughs following the world premiere of "Struck by Lightning" at the Tribeca Film Festival.
He must be. Colfer makes both his screenwriting and feature-film acting debut in the coming-of-age film, which begins with his character getting killed by a lightning strike.
Best known for his Golden Globe-winning performance on "Glee," Colfer was on the receiving end of numerous cheers and yelps from the excited audience at Tribeca on Saturday night. One young girl asked him for an autograph during the Q&A ("Follow-up question: Do you think you can sign this?") and "Glee" co-stars Amber Riley and Ashley Fink were also in attendance. (Emma Watson was too, and she asked a question of one of the producers, to which Colfer replied, "You look so familiar!")
Directed by Brian Dannelly ("Saved!"), "Lightning" flashes back after its shocking start to the life of Carson »

Suburgatory 1.18 "Down Time" Review
One of the hallmarks of earlier episodes of Suburgatory is a certain type of comedic aggression that either raised the bar or brought things to a crashing halt. When the show could channel that energy and readiness to do anything for a laugh, it made the corresponding absolutely pop and easily differentiated it from other comedies of its ilk. However, when it didn't quite balance the ambition with the execution, it turned episodes too loud and too in-your-face; you had to admire their willingness to turn the volume up to 11, but there's a line between being quirky fun and garish for the sake of being garish. It's only in the last six to eight episodes that Suburgatory has learned to control its id, with "Down Time" notable for its reliance on reactionary storytelling.

Even those who quickly grew weary with Glee maintain their love for Chris Colfer. So we are all watching closely with Struck by Lightning, which is not only Colfer’s feature debut, but also his first produced script. The first trailer has dropped, and there is definite promise. Colfer's writing is clearly influe nced by his day job, given the story's focus on what it means to be an outcast in high school. But Colfer smartly crafted a different kind of high school outcast for himself, one who wants to be the editor of The New Yorker rather than a Broadway star. This ambition leads the character to, as he puts it, "blackmail the entire school to better my chances of getting into the school of my dreams. And it's exhilarating." Rebel Wilson, Sarah Hyland, Allison Janney, Dermot Mulroney, Christina Hendricks, Allie Grant, and Angela Kinsey also star in Struck by Lightning, »
