With Ritchie De Laet, Matthew James and Michael Owen all to be shown the exit at Old Trafford in the last few days, it may surprise many to hear that the club could be looking to sell their key Portuguese winger Nani.
After just losing out to rivals Manchester City in the title race, as well crashing out of the Champions League and finishing the season trophy less, Fergie believes he needs to make vital changes to his squad. Fans will have been disappointed with no trophies entering Old Trafford this season, although they will not be too happy with key players leaving.
Reports suggest that the club are looking to find interested parties to buy the 25 year-old Portuguese international, if contract negotiations collapse. Nani’s current deal will see him at the club until 2014, but it seems Sir Alex is keen for Nani to state his loyalties and commit himself to the club. »

Real Madrid have one hand on the La Liga trophy but they still need to be professional in the run-in and make sure they win two of their last four games to secure the title. They take on Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu today, with an earlier than usual 11am (UK time) kick-off time, 12pm Cet, looking to extend their seven-point margin over Barcelona who take on Rayo Vallecano later on tonight.

Unless you have been living under the sea, or more likely, unless you haven’t an interest in football, you couldn’t have failed to notice the celebrations of ’20 seasons in the Premier League’, a festival of voting for goals, managers, teams, celebrations, socks, grass, weather…
Manchester United have, without question, been the greatest team in Premier League history. Twelve titles (perhaps thirteen if you have stumbled across this from the future) amongst others go some way to proving that.
So in homage to the greatest ever Premier League Team, I have sought to try and pick their best ever Premier League XI, a debate that will rage on and on and on, to the point someone ends up in tears.

Chelsea’s rejuvenation under Roberto Di Matteo has seen the team return to the tough, defensive, and organised ways that have served them so well in the Abramovich era. In terms of statistics they were dominated by Barcelona last Wednesday but from their one shot on target Chelsea scored the only goal of the game. If they are to progress to a second Champions League final they must be willing to take a risk and try to score in the Camp Nou.

It can’t get more cruel and hurting for Barcelona than to hand over the title to Real Madrid at Camp Nou. More depressing for the Catalans was the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo, a player whose big-match temperament has been under constant scrutiny this season, finally shook off any nerves to perform whereas Barca’s blue-eyed boy Lionel Messi failed to even penetrate into the box.
It is noteworthy that the El Clasico played last December was almost identical to this past weekend’s, except for the scoreline where Barca were away and won 3-1. They replaced Real Madrid at the top of La Liga and then there was no turning back as they raced to the title and also took the top honours in Europe. But one major difference in both these matches that was very clearly visible in this El Clasico has been the impact of Daniel Alves. »

It’s that time again. Just as the football season is heading towards its culmination, attention turns towards the next season of footy video game releases.
Konami are set to debut a Pes 2013 gameplay trailer next Tuesday 24th April which will show off the actual engine from the forthcoming game.

There will be a huge sigh of relief in the white half of Madrid tonight, as a special performance by Cristiano Ronaldo saves the blushes of a Madrid side who look far from champions elect.
It was quite a startling performance in all honesty, helmed by a man called ‘The Special One’, ‘One of the greatest managers of our time’ and ‘A third needlessly over the top description of a football coach’, you wouldn’t expect such a great deal of tactical ineptitude which had me believing that his pre match pep talk was most likely ‘Please. Just go win.’ Which, although touching in its simplicity, would struggle to get a group of physically imposing, middle aged Glaswegians playing 8 year old girls motivated, let alone a team fighting for their lives in the title race.

After Barcelona’s three-one victory against Sporting Gijon on Saturday, the pressure was on Real Madrid last night to beat Espanyol and maintain their ten point lead at the top of La Liga. Madrid ended up winning with a convincing five-nil score line, and giving a commanding performance.
In the first half Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring with his thirtieth league goal of the season, moving him two goals ahead of Lionel Messi. Fifteen minutes later Sami Khedira scored Real Madrid’s second goal, in what was his first ever league goal for Madrid. In the second half Gonzalo Higuain scored twice and Kaka scored, as Madrid dominated.
Kaka in particular gave a performance reminiscent of his form at AC Milan that once made him World Player of the Year. The Brazilian was a constant problem for the Espanyol defence, and as well as scoring he created most of Madrid’s best chances. »
