29 January 2015 1:40 PM, PST | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

How did Amy Schumer manage to land her gig as host of the 2015 MTV Movie Awards, exactly? If you ask Anna Kendrick, she’d say it’s probably just because Chelsea Handler was unavailable.

In this first promo for the April 12 awards show, Schumer surprises Kendrick at home(?), pestering her about whether or not she’s related to Kendrick Lamar or Annie — like, the fictional musical character — prompting Kendrick to give Schumer a lesson in how names do (and do not) work.

And for all you South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut fans out there, Schumer inadvertently pays homage »

Eye Candy Series Premiere Review: “K3U” (Season 1, Episode 1)

12 January 2015 8:00 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

MTV is taking fans in an interesting new direction with their latest scripted thriller series, Eye Candy, which premiered tonight on the formerly music oriented network. In one word, the pilot can simply be described as disturbing. Eye Candy is essentially The Following for a younger demographic, but it’s too early to tell if that’s a good thing or not.

Eye Candy centers around a young, genius hacker named Lindy, played by Victoria Justice, former star of Nickelodeon’s hit teen show Victorious. By the end of the first episode, she is both the hunter and hunted as she continues to search for any clues that might lead to finding out what happened to her sister.

In the beginning of the episode, Lindy watches helplessly as her sister is kidnapped right in front of her. Three years later, a 21-year old version of the character we were briefly »

MTV's Eye Candy: Did You Connect With the Victoria Justice Thriller?

12 January 2015 8:00 PM, PST | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

With lines like “The Internet — God’s gift to psychopaths,” MTV’s Eye Candy is definitely a don’t-watch-with-the-lights-off kind of show.

The network’s new thriller, which premiered Monday, transforms “it” girl Victoria Justice into I.T. girl Lindy Sampson, a 20-something parolee who moonlights as a(n unlicensed) private detective for missing persons. Think of her as a next-generation Veronica Mars, sans the golden locks and extra-long camera lens.

But Lindy’s adventures in cyber space take a seriously twisted turn when she discovers that one of the three guys she met through a dating app is also »

CBS Insists It’s Changing With the Times

12 January 2015 9:53 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

CBS might be the oldest-skewing and fustiest of the broadcasters, but its entertainment chief, Nina Tassler, insisted it’s changing with the times during her network’s portion of the TV Critics Assn. tour Monday.

At the same time, the network continues to be reliant on a brand of programming — the procedural crime drama — that seems deeply rooted not only in industry traditions but, as the Wall Street Journal recently noted, has begun to yield diminishing returns.

So Tassler spoke about the network’s evolution — about how “It’s about finding all viewers – wherever they are, whenever they watch,” and the diminishing influence of overnight ratings — while renewing a trio of new dramas, including “Scorpion” and “NCIS: New Orleans,” which both could have easily been developed in the 1990s. Ditto for an upcoming spinoff, “CSI: Cyber,” which Tassler stressed would be “very relevant” and “very topical” because of its focus on cyber-crimes. »

TV Review: ‘Eye Candy’

9 January 2015 8:45 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Among the burdens of shows associated with MTV is a need to feel youthful and occasionally on the cutting edge. The drama “Eye Candy” falls well short of those marching orders, casting Victoria Justice as a young hacker trying to find her missing sister, and simultaneously hunted by a sadistic predator. Basically, it’s Nancy Drew meets “Stalker” (nearly rivaling that CBS show in terms of grisly killings), and winds up being most notable for Justice graduating from Nickelodeon roles (“Zoey 101,” “Victorious”) to its Viacom sibling. Assuming the studio advocates cradle-to-grave employment, at least she can count on a TV Land gig in her district-attorney years.

Adapted from R.L. Stine’s bestselling novel into a 10-episode series, “Eye Candy” begins on a grim note, as Justice’s Lindy watches her younger sister get snatched right in front of her. Three years later, she’s 21 and still seeking clues, while »
