Edward E. Frumkes, former Warner Bros. president of international theatrical distribution and marketing, has joined China’s Shanghai Hippo Animation Corp. as president of its international division.
It is highly unusual for wholly owned Chinese companies to install a Westerner in a top management position rather than in a customary figurehead role. Therefore the Frumkes hire is potentially transformational for Hippo as the company grows its animation business and expands into technology services for the entertainment industry and beyond.
Frumkes, who has been living in China for approximately a year, says Hippo is looking to tap his experience and skillset as the company scales up its production capacity and seeks strategic and financial partners.
During his 13-year tenure at Warner Bros., Frumkes was a frequent visitor to China and played a key role in opening up the Chinese market to U.S. distribution in the early 1990s. He launched to »

Former Nickelodeon star Victoria Justice is ready to show the world her more mature side of acting. Victoria will play a Computer mastermind named Lindy, who finds herself trying to get to the bottom of a creepy stalker. The series will finally premier on January 12th on MTV. You can catch the trailer down below.
The series looks like it will be a good one. I am wishing that it was picked up by another network. MTV might butcher it and it seems more mature than their usual shows. I hope that they do not ruin it, especially since it appears to hold a lot of promise. I hope soon enough though, that a more detailed one »

I am curious to see how she will do on that kind of show. She hasn’t act much since her old show ended and it seems like she spent some time on a break. However, it will be a test to see if she can have more mainstream TV act than just a kids comedy. Victoria’s music efforts outside of Nickelodeon, so we are not too sure about her TV show. I generally pay as much attention to the broadcast network development season as I do to the baseball draft. Though the shows that actually survive development are much closer to airing chronologically than most baseball draftees are to the majors, the winnowing process is just as brutal in both cases. On average, a given network will hear 3-400 pitches a year, order scripts for 60-70 of them, make 8-12 pilots and put roughly between a half dozen and a dozen of them on the air. So I’ve usually found development not worth worrying about until shows are actually ordered to series and scheduled. That said, it’s been tough to ignore this fall’s development season, where it seems like every day for the past few weeks, my Twitter feed has blown up a few times an afternoon with news of a familiar movie or TV property being adapted »
