Sword Art Online returns for the concluding part of its story line. These last selection of episodes give closure to all the plot elements that came before, but there’s still a feeling that the entire season could have just extended the original premise or ended after the first arc.

The main focus now is the love triangle between Kirito, Asuna and Kirito’s sister who has fallen in love with her own brother within the virtual world. This is a deliciously complex area that the show could explore, as it highlights the positives behind the characters without them knowing who is who. It gives a whole new meaning to anonymity and the dangers that go with it without ever being exploitative or insensitive. The show »

Sword Art Online proved itself to be a spectacularly unpredictable series filled with many great themes and interesting developments. However, it also seemed to finish a main story arc far too early. That’s never a complaint I usually have with anime, but halfway through the series and the players were freed from their virtual prison. So what does the show do with another two collections on the way? Unfortunately, it seems to struggle with finding a new plot as gripping as its predecessor.

It’s been 2 years since players were trapped inside the Mmorpg, Sword Art Online, and the inhabitants have started to become accustomed to their new lives. A certain level of apathy and comfortableness has swept through the world, causing people to set up lives and take pride in their achievements. Sword Art Online does a terrific job at representing a fantasy world that is exactly that, but one we’d probably all like to be a part of. Average people become strong and fearless warriors, but at the same time the show highlights how the little things have vanished. Cooking now consists of a few quick clicks, removing much of its enjoyment.
