Like the 1988 comedy, “Coming to America,” its sequel 33 years later also features its share of memorable musical moments.
Director Craig Brewer, who worked with Eddie Murphy on “Dolemite Is My Name,” knew how passionate people were about the original and “didn’t want to mess anything up,” he tells Variety. The director wanted to tackle such universal themes as parenthood and tradition using the film’s soundtrack combined with Jermaine Stegall’s score.
Brewer admits one of the first ideas he pitched was the “Gett Off” sequence. The 1991 song by Prince also happens to be one of his favorites. Says Brewer: “If we viewed the first movie as a template for what Zamundan custom is and a princess is being presented to a prince, there has to be a dance. I thought ‘Wouldn’t it be fun if he did ‘Gett Off’ by Prince?”

Frank Abney says the idea for his animated short feature and Oscar hopeful “Canvas” was born out of a need to make a film that was personal.
Six years ago, the animator, whose credits include Pixar titles “Soul,” “Coco,” “Toy Story 4” and “Incredibles 2,” felt he was nevertheless experiencing a rough patch creatively. “I was trying to navigate the industry, and we struggle as artists,” Abney says. “I knew when I created something, I wanted it to be unique to my situation.”
Watching his young niece and observing her carefree nature, he devised a family film in which generations help each other. Abney lost his father when he was 5 and witnessed his mother sharing his grief, his grandfather at her side. “I was curious [about my grandfather] because he was always quiet and withdrawn when I was around him,” Abney says.

Nothing could be creepier than waking up in the middle of night to a partially nude Bill Moseley. The latest trailer for Kejo Production's and Vision Entertainment's Rogue River scares viewers with more than just that, however. Characters Jon (Moseley) and Lea (Lucinda Jenney) terrorize a grief stricken Mara (Michelle Page) morning, noon and night. Lea and Jon remove clothes and wigs to shock audiences and to make Mara wish she had parked her car somewhere else, somewhere much farther away from Oregon's beautiful Rogue River.
Have a look at the newest film poster for Rogue River, which has added some details since the original, posted here (Rogue River Original Film Art). As well, Dread Central has debuted a much fuller trailer for this horror thriller, which shows more of actress Michelle Page and too much of Moseley. The film clip is below.

A few weeks back this writer had the opportunity to chat with up-and-coming composer Jermaine Stegall while he was at the La Screamfest Horror Film Festival supporting the two features he had scored that were selected entries: Rogue River and The Psycho Legacy.
After quickly realizing that a few moments on the red carpet wasn’t enough time to learn about this new rising genre talent, Dread Central recently caught up with Stegall again to talk about his work on scoring both The Psycho Legacy and Rogue River, what inspired him to become a composer, and how it felt to be working on a documentary about a film series that featured one of the most memorable scores not in only the horror genre but in the entire history of cinema as well.
Dread Central: Can you talk about how you got interested in scoring movies and how you started off in the industry?...

This writer caught up with genre journalist and documentary filmmaker Robert Galluzzo this past Tuesday night at the Burbank, CA hot spot of horror, Dark Delicacies, as he celebrated the release of his documentary The Psycho Legacy (which that day released nationwide via Shout! Factory) with a well attended, in-store DVD signing.
It seemed an appropriate evening to pick his brain as fans and Psycho alumni arrived en masse, as did an intimidating lightning storm that hovered over the Los Angeles basin, not unlike the one Psycho star Janet Leigh drove through on her way to her eventual demise in the original 1960 Hitchcock classic, which, along with its sequels, served as the inspiration for Galluzzo’s The Psycho Legacy.
Galluzzo happily took some time out from the festivities to wax on the trials and tribulations of his long-in-the-making documentary (read our review of The Psycho Legacy here) as well as...
