Baris Akarsu jumped from completely unknown to a celebrity shortly after winning the title on Akademi Tuerkiye, a singing contest on a private TV station. Soon after releasing his first album, producers decided to use his fame and handsome looks on a TV series called "Yalanci Yarim", where he successfully starred in the lead role alongside actress Merve Sevi. Thanks to this series, he became equally famous as an actor as well as a singer, and in no time, he reached such a level of fame that allowed him to give concerts to collect money for charities.
In June 2007, along with the rest of the filming crew, he went to Bodrum, Turkey, to shoot some episodes for his show "Yalanci Yarim". Following one of the aforementioned non-profit concerts he gave in Bodrum, Akarsu took off to a hotel to attend his birthday party on the 28th of June 2007 organized by his friends, and to announce the winner of a contest he ran in order to discover talented singers the same way he was discovered.
Akarsu never made it to his birthday party. On their way to the hotel, Akarsu and two of his friends were involved in a serious car accident by crashing into a fully loaded truck. The driver of the car and his other friend died on the day of the accident. Akarsu experienced severe injuries and was taken to a hospital in a state of asystole following the crash.
His doctors were unable to stabilize Akarsu. Due to severe injuries in his brain and numerous wounds all over his body and inner organs, Baris Akarsu sadly passed away around 20:30 o'clock on the 4th of July 2007 at the age of 28.
The English translation of his first name is "Peace".
