Update: Starz to Air Magic City, Spartacus Marathons
Starz has announced that it will be running marathons of recent debut Magic City and its most popular series Spartacus, just in time for the malaise of summer TV.
Magic City has been slowly building in ratings and word-of-mouth, culminating in what is sure to be a strong finale. But before we get to the finale and the impending danger that faces both Ike and Stevie Evans, it's time to relive all the glamour, all the fashion, and all the mob ties. Beginning Friday, May 25th at 9:00, Magic City will be airing from the very beginning, all seven episodes popping up in chunks throughout the weekend. The season finale will be airing Friday, June 1st at 10:00, a week before the Spartacus marathon kicks off. Magic City has already been renewed for a second season.
For the first time, Spartacus will be airing in chronological order, »

Spartacus, Season 2, Episode 10 “Wrath of the Gods” Air Date: 3/30/12
Holy $#*!. Like the two finales before it, in the original series and its prequel Gods Of The Arena, creator Stephen DeKnight and the team at Starz have delivered another massively entertaining, ridiculously bloody and shocking capper to a season that made a statement. With or without Andy Whitfield, Spartacus is a creative force to be reckoned with and it isn’t going anywhere. I’m not sure there’s been a better or more satisfying, sad or disturbing episode since “Kill Them All.”
Just ten weeks ago, Liam McIntyre and company started off on a weak point with season 2’s premiere episode “Fugitivus,” bringing dishonor to the arena and in so doing, causing myself and fans to wonder if the Gods would ever remove a certain organ from a certain body part. But ever since, the quality, »

Spartacus: Vengeance 2.10 "Wrath of the Gods" Review
Starz
Spartacus: Vengeance concludes its bloody fight in the aftermath of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, igniting its tenth and final season finale episode "Wrath of the Gods," as Spartacus desperately attempts to lead his rebels to survival after being trapped upon Mt. Vesuvius by Gaius Claudius Glaber. A richly satisfying finale, "Wrath of the Gods" thoroughly puts the cap on what's been an incredibly strong sophomore outing for the show, and TV at large.
Wow, hell of a ride this season of Spartacus: Vengeance has been, hasn’t it? Hard to believe it’s already over. Well, I’ll go ahead and say it. I’m a little disappointed with “Wrath of the Gods.” I wish to hell that I never realized Spartacus was based on actual events, and as such Starz’s incarnation would follow a rough outline of historical events, as »

Starz “Spartacus: Vengeance.”
The way this season of “Spartacus: Vengeance” has gone, you know there is some serious bloodletting in the finale, “Wrath Of The Gods.” And this time, several major characters will breathe their last. Let’s get right to the glorious carnage.
We start with Spartacus, looking down from Vesuvius. A sneak attack is planned on the Roman soldiers at the bottom, a desperate attempt to get food, no doubt. But the attack doesn’t go quite as planned, »

Spartacus: Vengeance 2.08 "Balance" Review - Sliding Scales
-Starz
Spartacus: Vengeance continues its bloody fight in the aftermath of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, ransoming its eighth episode "Balance," as Spartacus struggles over what to do with Ilithyia (Viva Bianca) in the wake of a startling revelation, while Glaber descends deeper into his obsession with killing Spartacus. A strong, if somewhat indecisive episode, "Balance" might leave a few questioning how much time remains to deliver a satisfying end to the season.
Last week I made mention of the fact that Spartacus: Vengeance had me a bit worried in its dash to the finish line, where the seventh out of tenth episode focused on incorporating a new group of characters rather than build toward the season finale. It was a great episode to be sure, but we’re at that point where people in the theater begin checking their watches, trying to get »

We are only part way through Spartacus: Vengeance and show executives have already been preparing for the third season of the Roman television show. As quickly as upstanding Roman citizens are killed, they are replaced by new and exciting characters from the historical Empire. But this is Rome dear readers so where in the name of Jupiter is Julius Caesar?
It would seem that writers intend to rectify the oversight in season 3 of the Starz hit, Spartacus which as of yet, does not have a nifty subtitle (Blood and Sand, Gods of the Arena, and Vengeance). Not one, but two iconic figures in Roman history have been cast for the next installment of Spartacus, Julius Caesar and Marcus Crassus. The two actors who landed the roles couldn’t be more different. As Caesar, executives have cast Todd Lasance (Cloudstreet) and Crassus will be portrayed by Simon Merrells (The Wolfman).
In this version of the Empire, »

A frantic 911 call was placed after Monkees singer Davy Jones suffered a massive heart on Wednesday in Florida.
The distressed woman who dialed the emergency number pleaded for an ambulance to "hurry," before suggesting it might be faster to put Jones in a car and drive to the nearest hospital -- which was 27 miles away.
Jones had complained of breathing trouble early in the morning, and was later taken to a hospital in the town of Stuart, »

Spartacus: Vengeance 2.05 "Libertus" Review - A Fire Inside
Spartacus: Vengeance continues its bloody fight in the aftermath of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, burning through its fifth episode "Libertus," as Spartacus mounts a rescue mission to retrieve Crixus and Oenomaus from their fate in the arena at the hands of Gannicus (Dustin Clare), while Glaber learns startling news about Ilithyia. An increasingly epic and action-packed episode, "Libertus" continues the hot streak of Spartacus' second season without losing its focus on interpersonal conflicts.
Lately, I’ve been doing my best to be introspective about the process of reviewing and recapping television. After a while, nervousness arises that you’ve run out of poignant things to say, or the eloquence to verbalize how different episodes make you feel, and even the manner in which you watch the episode can affect your viewing of it. More often than not, reviewers have but one chance »

Jai Courtney is not an actor many people are going to be instantly familiar with. He has a few high profile films currently in development (a confirmed role in Tom Cruise-led thriller One Shot and an attached role in the the Aaron Eckhart-led I, Frankenstein), but unless you're a big fan of the surprisingly addicting Starz original series Spartacus: Blood and Sand, he's likely a complete unknown. If you are a fan of the series, you'll remember Courtney as Varro, the blonde gladiator that Spartacus (the late Andy Whitfield) befriends early on in the first season. Well now Courtney has signed on for a role that will undoubtedly make him a much more recognizable name. Director John Moore has just cast the actor in A Good Day to Die Hard (Aka Die Hard 5) as John...

Spartacus - Swords and Ashes is not simply an adaptation from the TV series, but is an original tale that seems to take place in the time period between Spartacus : Blood and Sand and Spartacus: Vengence. The gladiator Spartacus is still in the ‘employ’ of Quintus Batiatus, who is desperate to acquire the wealth from the estate of a murdered nobleman Pelorus. His murderer, Medea, is condemned to die for her crime in the arena, along with all the household slaves. It is here that Spartacus first crosses paths with the mysterious Medea. The plot twists and turns via the both literal and metaphorical backstabbing that viewers of the television series will be familiar with.
When picking up the book the first thing of note is the choice of image for the front cover. Andy Whitfield who played the role of Spartacus in the first series died in 2011 from »

Spartacus Vengeance – Episode 3: The Greater Good
Stars: Liam McIntyre, Peter Mensah, Manu Bennett, Viva Bianca, Craig Parker, Katrina Law, Tom Hobbs, Hanna Mangan-Lawrence, Luke Pegler, Lucy Lawless, Dan Feuerriegel, Nick Tarabay, Cynthia Addai-Robinson | Written by Tracy Bellomo | Directed by Brendan Maher
Spartacus: Vengeance is a show with layers, at first glance it’s a men only entertainment, full of nudity, sex and graphic violence; but as the story progresses we get a hint of what these characters would be like in a less violent world. Yes, there’s still plenty of sex, nudity and violence, but they just emphasise what a brutish world the characters live in.
Spartacus and crew continue their search for Naevia, in the process freeing more slaves, and Agron shows he has leadership potential as he pushes for a move to the more defendable Vesuvius. Relationships are evolving for everyone in this episode: Agron sees »

Spartacus: Vengeance 2.02 "A Place in This World" Review
Spartacus: Vengeance continues rising out of the ashes of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, offering up its second episode "A Place in This World," as Spartacus and Crixus begin the search for Naevia while Oenomaus (Peter Mensa) struggles to reclaim his honor and find purpose after what he's done. Far from a sophomore slump, "A Place in This World" offers a somewhat quieter, but heavy with purpose episode for the series' renewed vigor.
So…it’s over, right? We’re into the second episode of Spartacus: Vengeance now with “A Place In This World,” and the audience has had weeks of “Fugitivus” available to get used to Liam McIntyre in the title role, right? The season is in play, and we can move past the curious tragedy of it all to appreciate the bloody spectacle for what it is? I say this not out of disrespect, »

As you heard right here on Boomtron, the green light has been given to the Green Arrow project, simply titled Arrow. The new series for the CW network is a spin-off of Superman’s younger-year drama, Smallville, which ran for ten seasons. You might have thought the starring role in this series would be given to Smallville actor, the quite gorgeous, Justin Hartley, who was that show’s Oliver Queen. It appears you’d be wrong, however! This just in, Stephen Amell is our new man in green.
Deadline reports Amell won the title role in Arrow. the project is produced by Warner Bros, and like Smallville before it, is a retelling of the classic DC Comics tale. Amell is Oliver Queen, of course, playboy millionaire by day, and bow and arrow wielding vigilante by night. He’s even a politician. No word yet on whether the show will flirt with Queen’s alcoholism. »
