He's a man with a plan, and it seems that there is nothing that Noel Clarke can't do, having made dramas, heists, historical epics, films about urban youth and tv shows about Timelords. And now, just to push those boundaries a bit further, he's fusing two genres and extending a sci-fi noir short into a full-length feature film.
Having brought home some bigger bucks with his lady-thief-filled 126.96.36.199, the Kidulthood Adulthood actor/director/writer/producer is looking for new ways to get more fingers to stick in pies and the extension his recent pairing with young director and graphic concept artist Matthew Savage for Reign Of Death seemed like the ideal opportunity to turn his hand to a bit of Blade Running.
Multi-hyphenate Noel Clarke’s last project, 188.8.131.52., opened in UK theaters last month to mixed reviews. It’s yet to reach American shores, but I’m sure it will sooner or later, in one format or another.
Regardless, he’s already lining up what might be his next project – a sci-fi/noir titled Reign of Death, based on a short film of the same name that he also starred in, which was directed by fellow Brit, Matthew Savage, who previously created concept art for The Dark Knight, Kick-Ass, and Doctor Who, where he met Clarke.
Empire magazine claims to have read the feature-length script adaptation, and are really excited about seeing it all come alive on screen, saying that it “combines crunching action with diamond-sharp wit.”
Clarke says he optioned the short “a long time ago” for his production company, with plans to expand it into a feature-length film, describing it »
After extending his range with heist caper 184.108.40.206, actor/director/writer/producer/tea-maker Noel Clarke is considering science-fiction next. Reign Of Death is a sci-fi noir short film starring Clarke and written and directed by Matthew Savage. It's stunningly shot and well worth watching and now the pair are looking to turn it into a full-length film.*“The feature takes place within the same universe as the short, but it’s darker and more sinister in tone,” says Savage. “It follows an investigative storyline, with Noel’s gumshoe character taking the lead. The short was an experiment in creating a visually interesting environment within which to tell our story.”Savage, who has previously created concept art for The Dark Knight and Kick-Ass, met his star when they were both working on Doctor Who.“I optioned Reign Of Death a long time ago, for my company, with a view to getting a feature done, »
British musician Eshkeri worked with Vaughn on Kick-Ass, released earlier this year; Stardust, in 2007, for which he won the Best New Composer award from the International Film Music Critics Association; and Layer Cake, back in 2004. He was also the composer on Ninja Assassin and Centurion.
According to Xmf, Eshkeri is in "final talks" to create the music, while IMDb lists him as the composer.
And Rpin Suwannath has joined the team as a previsualisation supervisor who will, using computer graphics, create rough versions of shots so that directors can decide how to film a scene.
