Elijah Wood to Star in The Late Bloomer

Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings, Wilfred) is set to play the lead role in the new comedy feature film The Late Bloomer from Dignity Film Finance (Dff), it was announced today by the producers. Jesse Israel of Ineffable Pictures, Heidi Jo Markel of Eclectic Pictures will produce and Dff President Maggie Monteith, will executive produce and finance the film.

Expected to go into production in January 2013, Monteith produces the film with Jesse Israel, Markel and Brent Emery, (Coup d'Etat Films). Raphael Kryszek, Ineffable Pictures' founder, is also executive producing.

International sales agent Cargo Entertainment, led by Marina Grasic, Jan Korbelin and Mark Lindsay is on board to handle International distribution rights to the film and will introduce The Late Bloomer to overseas buyers at Afm in November.

Directed by Randall Einhorn (FX's Wilfred, NBC's The Office), The Late Bloomer is based on the 2001 acclaimed memoir Man »

An adaptation of chef-turned-author Anthony Bourdain’s best-selling book Bone in the Throat is one of a trio of high-profile projects on L.A.-based film and TV production banner Dignity Film Finance's development roster. Dignity president Maggie Monteith is prepping the projects to finance and produce later this year through her banner. Lenny Beckerman (Uwantmetokillhim?) and Peter Heslop (The King's Speech) will produce the Bone project. Monteith's company also has put into development the rom-com Closer to Fine, to be directed by Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote), and Spy vs. Stu, an action comedy to be directed by Herve Renoh (Coursier).

Derby Street Films Acquires Black List Script ‘Blood Mountain’

Exclusive: London-based Derby Street Films has made a six-figure acquisition of the Jonathan Stokes spec Blood Mountain, a script that made the 2011 Black List. Spec is described as a gritty survival thriller with action elements. Shaun Redick and Ray Mansfield of Movie Package Co. are producing alongside James Gibb of Cutting Edge, with Nicola Horlick, Rachel Durkin, Brooklyn Weaver and Jonathan Stokes serving as Executive Producers. Derby Street Films, which is run by Horlick, was established to take advantage of the Enterprise Investment Scheme in the UK, developing projects for eventual sale to the studios and independent financiers, and TV networks and cable channels. Derby Street Films acquires underlying intellectual properties and is developing original ideas with commercial potential. The goal is to develop 25 projects over the next three years.
