Writers Guild of America West Accuses Studios of ‘Insufficient’ Response to Sexual Harassment

Leaders of the Writers Guild of America have blasted studios and agencies for “insufficient response” on the issue of sexual harassment.

In a message sent to members Tuesday, the WGA West said, “We are determined that not only member rights, but also member responsibilities, be clearly defined. It is also imperative that we address what so many of us perceive as an insufficient response on the part of studios and agencies.”

The WGA leaders first responded to the cascade of sexual harassment allegations on Oct. 14, nine days after the bombshell accusations against disgraced ex-mogul Harvey Weinstein, saying at the time that the guild was “in solidarity with the women who have spoken out about the abuses they’ve suffered.”

The latest letter was signed by president David A. Goodman, VP Marjorie David, and secretary treasurer Aaron Mendelsohn. The WGA West has about 10,000 members.

The leaders also noted that David Young, WGA West executive director,

WGA West President David Goodman: ‘We Will Need Another Strike Threat’
Hollywood writers will need to issue an official strike threat in 2020 to get a decent contract, according to the incoming president of the Writers Guild of America West.

David A. Goodman, who will become the new WGA West president on Sept. 18, has told members in recent days that getting a strike authorization is essential to improving on the current three-year master contract, which was hammered out at the last minute on May 1.

Goodman, in his statement to members in the 70-page WGA West election booklet sent out a few days ago, asserts that membership’s 96% support of a strike authorization in April was requisite for the gains in the current deal.

Goodman, the current VP of the guild and an ex-officio member of the negotiating committee, is the only candidate to succeed Howard Rodman. The WGA West nominating committee selected Goodman and another candidate, who withdrew, and no one opted to run by petition.

WGA West President Howard Rodman Will Not Seek Re-Election

Howard Rodman, the president of the Writers Guild of America West, has decided against seeking re-election to another two-year term.

Rodman told Variety that he was “deeply proud” of his two decades of service to the guild and looking forward to more time for family and work.

“I began to serve on Guild committees in 1996; helped found the Guild’s caucus for writers of independent film; have served on negotiating committees, the board, then four years as vice-president, two years as president,” he said. “I’m deeply proud of the work we’ve done, of what we’ve been able to accomplish, especially in the 2017 contract negotiation. Without hyperbole: it’s been the honor of a lifetime. I’m looking forward to prying loose more space for family and work.”

His decision was unveiled Wednesday as part of the announcement that current WGA West VP David Goodman has been selected by the guild’s nominating committee as a candidate to succeed Rodman. Goodman is currently unopposed, as another unnamed candidate selected by the nominated committee declined to run. Members can still seek the office via petition until July 21.

The election will take place in September with dues-current members eligible to vote. Results will be announced on Sept. 18. The WGA West represents about 9,000 members.

Rodman won the 2015 election over Joan Meyerson and was often the public face of guild during its contentious negotiations with production companies, which led to an 11th hour deal on May 1. He was eligible to serve another term but opted against doing so.

Marjorie David, a WGA West board member, has been nominated by the committee to succeed Goodman as vice president. Another unnamed candidate declined to run against her. Aaron Mendelsohn has been nominated to seek re-election as secretary-treasurer along with board member Carlton Eastlake.

The board’s nominating committee also nominated incumbents Andrea Berloff, Luvh Rakhe, Meredith Stiehm and Zak Penn along with nine other candidates for eight open board seats. The remaining candidates are Francesca Butler, Nicole Yorkin, Angelina Burnett, John August, Adam Horowitz, Michele Mulroney, Spiro Skentzos, Patti Carr and Ligiah Villalobos.

Members seeking nomination for the office of president, vice president or secretary-treasurer must obtain 25 member signatures in support of their petitions and submit them by July 21. Members seeking nomination for the board of directors have to obtain 15 member signatures.

Watch the Original Pink Ranger Interview the New Power Rangers
Later this month, the iconic Power Rangers franchise will be rebooted for a new generation, with a new group of stars taking over as these iconic characters. The franchise got its start with the wildly popular TV series Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, which ran from 1993 to 1999, spawning its own movie and a number of additional TV series that carry on the franchise's name to this day. The young stars of this new Power Rangers movie are starting to make the press rounds, leading up to the March 24 release, and they were given quite the surprise, when original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers star Amy Jo Johnson, the original Pink Ranger, stopped by to interview the cast.

Amy Jo Johnson debuted this video on her YouTube page, where the actress explains that she is interviewing the stars for a Vancouver publication called the Daily Hive, during the Toronto press junket. When she walks into the room,

Power Rangers TV Spot Hints at Rita Repulsa's Past Life as a Ranger

Power Rangers TV Spot Hints at Rita Repulsa's Past Life as a Ranger
Lionsgate has released three new TV spots for the highly-anticipated Power Rangers movie, which arrives days after a new Power Rangers international trailer. One of these new TV spots shows how some of the Rangers met during detention, with Rj Cyler's Billy Cranston, a.k.a. The Blue Ranger, revealing he was sent to detention for "blowing up his lunchbox," which was apparently quite a bigger explosion than planned. We also see Dacre Montgomery's Red Ranger activating his sword while leaping into battle, along with more footage of Goldar and the Zords.

Perhaps the biggest reveal is the spot featuring Rita Repulsa. She claims to have killed Rangers before. But in an even bigger twist, she says she was once like them, full of hope. This line has many speculating that she actually is the former Green Ranger, which has long been speculated. Especially since she is confirmed

It's Morphin Time in New Power Rangers International Trailer
In exactly one month, Lionsgate will unleash their new Power Rangers reboot in theaters, which is shaping up to be one of this spring's early blockbusters. To get fans ready for "morphin' time," Lionsgate has released an international trailer, which includes new footage of the villainous Rita Repulsa. It remains to be seen how much more footage will be released between now and the March 24 release date, but we'll most likely be seeing a few more clips in the days and weeks ahead.

This trailer, which surfaced on YouTube, comes just one week after the Power Rangers final trailer surfaced, with most of the footage here coming from that sneak peek. The new Rita Repulsa scene gives fans a better grasp on how powerful she truly is, and we also get to see how huge Goldar really is. Red Ranger Goes Unmasked in Power Rangers Character Posters

Red Ranger Goes Unmasked in Power Rangers Character Posters
It's almost Morphin Time! The all-new Power Rangers will be invading movie theaters in less than a month, and Lionsgate is probably more excited about unleashing these teenage heroes than you are to watch the actual movie. Case in point, they have just release a ton of new posters featuring these super powered Millennials. And we get a good look at their Zords. The main poster in this latest batch even unmasks the Red Ranger, played by Dacre Montgomery.

Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove, and the world, is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it's too late, band together as the Power Rangers.

Final Power Rangers Trailer Sends Alpha 5 Into Battle

Final Power Rangers Trailer Sends Alpha 5 Into Battle
With the March 24 release date rapidly approaching, Lionsgate has released a final trailer for Power Rangers with brand new footage, along with another TV spot. These new videos give fans a better look at the iconic Zordon, voiced by Bryan Cranston, along with a new glimpse at the villainous Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) and Goldar, plus a brief scene with Alpha 5 (Bill Hader). The Alpha 5 scene shows that, while he is certainly lacking in size, he's more than capable of taking care of himself, as he takes down an enemy while screaming "Power Rangers!" Alpha 5 could very well be a scene-stealing character in this immense ensemble when he makes his big screen return on March 24.

Lionsgate debuted this 60-second trailer and 30-second TV spot on YouTube, which also features some footage showing how strong these teenagers have become after finding the power coins. There is also a new scene where Rj Cyler's Billy Cranston,

This one-sheet comes just one day after another poster debuted that gave us a better look at the Zords. Hopefully we'll be treated to many more posters and even a few more trailers between now and the release next month.
