Watch ‘Timeless’ give amusing shout-outs to ‘Nurse Jackie’ and Dr. Dre

22 August 2016 12:30 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Back to the Future had some fun with Marty’s frequent exclamation, “This is heavy!” Earlier this year, 11.22.63 got some laughs from James Franco’s character telling a veteran in 1960 that, yes, he served “in the Medical Corps, M*A*S*H 4077.” Now Timeless is supplying the comedy with its own anachronistic language and references as the new time travel series transports its heroes from 2016 to 1937. If you have your countdown set for Timeless’ premiere on October 3, here’s another peek at the new series to tide you over until then. HitFix has an exclusive “first look” featurette that not only includes the starring cast chatting about their characters but also reveals another amusing moment from the pilot when Abigail Spencer’s character saves her ragtag team’s cover with some quick thinking and a shout-out to a certain rapper. Check out the featurette below: Who to turn to in dire situations whilst time traveling? »

Don’t let the new ‘Timeless’ promo fool you into hoping for an Amelia Earhart episode

21 August 2016 3:41 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

A new promo for Timeless debuted this Saturday, and it should get history buffs even more stoked for this upcoming time travel series. The promo shows Timeless’ heroes jumping into eras gone by, their clothes and their surroundings morphing around them. We see Lucy, Rufus, and Wyatt transported to World War II and to Ford’s Theatre apparently on a fateful night in 1865, both of which have been revealed as parts of history where Timeless episodes will be set. And the trio gets a peek at Amelia Earhart — who had not been previously listed as the subject of an upcoming episode. Don’t let this get you excited for an Amelia Earhart episode, though. There is not an Earhart episode in the works, to the knowledge of an NBC rep HitFix contacted. She explained that the promo simply captures the possibilities of where Timeless’ heroes could end up. So that »

The Timeless heroes know how to time travel in era-appropriate style, as entertainingly illustrated in a new promo for NBC’s upcoming action-adventure series.

Premiering Monday, Oct. 3 at 10/9c, Timeless stars Abigail Spencer (Rectify), Matt Lanter (90210) and Malcolm Barrett (Better Off Ted) as a historian, soldier and scientist tasked by the government with chasing after a criminal (ER‘s Goran Visnjic) who has stolen a time machine. To that end, the trio are outfitted with a… less-shiny, not-entirely-reliable “beta” version of the stolen vessel.

‘Timeless’ reveals more historical events where (er, when) the show will travel

2 August 2016 12:54 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

At Comic-Con, the stars and creators of new timey wimey TV show Timeless kept mum about which eras the show would travel to. They wouldn’t reveal any time travel destinations beyond the pilot’s Hindenburg disaster and Episode 2’s assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. But at Timeless’ TCA presentation today, the show’s talent opened up about where (and when) else the show would take its time travelers on a mission to preserve history. The Watergate crisis, the space race during the moon landing, Germany during World War II, and the Alamo (presumably the Battle of the Alamo in 1836) were revealed as additional Timeless destinations. Co-creator Shawn Ryan (The Shield) also revealed that the writers have broken stories through episode 8, and the furthest back in time they’ve gone is the 1750s (please let us see a young Alexander Hamilton). At Comic-Con, Ryan told me, “We’re going to go back 250, 300 years. »

NBC's Timeless Adventure Won't 'Fall Down Serialized Rabbit Hole,' Says Ep

Timeless is determined not to break viewers’ brains with confusing time travel.

“It’s important to [co-creator] Eric [Kripke] and I, and NBC as well, that this not be the kind of show that falls down some serialized rabbit hole and loses itself and turns on itself,” co-creator Shawn Ryan said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Tuesday. “This show is much more like Back to the Future and Quantum Leap than it is like 12 Monkeys.”

‘Timeless’ EPs Reveal Future Episodes at the Alamo, Watergate, and Nazi Germany

2 August 2016 12:20 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Executive producers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke promised a different kind of time-traveling drama during NBC day at the Television Critics Association summer tour. Speaking onstage with stars Malcolm Barrett, Matt Lanter, and Abigail Spencer, the EPs teased elements of the first eight episodes of “Timeless,” which will debut this fall after “The Voice.”

The time-traveling mystery procedural follows a trio of unlikely comrades who are trying to track down history-hopping bandits with an unknown, nefarious purpose. As they chase the thieves with their own, less sophisticated time machine, the world keeps subtly altering around them.

Following a pilot that focuses on the Hindenburg disaster of 1937, the panelists revealed that “Timeless”‘ heroes will journey to President Lincoln’s assassination, Nazi Germany, and even the Alamo. Other iconic eras include Watergate, the Space Race, and an undisclosed location in the 1750s. The characters will never go back to a period of time they already visited, because »

NBC’s ‘Timeless’ Will Be Chock-Full of Racism

2 August 2016 11:53 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

NBC’s “Timeless”: Come for the time travel, stay for the ignorance. The coming procedural drama will drag Malcolm Barrett, Matt Lanter and Abigail Spencer back into the past every week. That will be unpleasant at times for the African American Barrett’s character, Rufus. In the pilot, he tackles the unfortunate reality head-on with an epic speech about Michael Jackson, Michael Jordan and Mike Tyson, and how he hopes a bigot from the 1930s lives long enough to appreciate their talents. Of course, that energy (and time-spend) can’t be replicated each hour. “He can’t give a big speech every single episode, »

Comic-Con: ‘Timeless’ stars on the ambitions and the guts of sending a black guy back in time

24 July 2016 10:17 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Timeless is among many time travel shows on air this year, when turn-back-the-clock TV seems to be the hottest new trend. But it’s the only series that’s daring to deal with sending a black character to eras where it was not at all fun to be black. Malcolm Barrett (Better off Ted) plays Rufus, a scientist who can pilot the time machine that goes back to the Hindenburg disaster in the first episode of Timeless, which premieres on NBC this October. Rufus is hesitant to join the small crew tasked with chasing a suspected terrorist back to May 6, 1937. “I am black,” he tells his superior. “There is literally no place in American history that will be awesome for me.” But he goes back anyway. There’s a reason he’s best for the job, a reason still mysterious to viewers upon the end of the pilot episode. And »

There is a select but growing group of actors who have been in projects from both of the major comic book companies, Marvel and DC. Community alum Danny Pudi and Matt Lanter (90210, Heroes) are both in this club, and we chatted with both of them at San Diego Comic-Con. Pudi scored a small part in Captain America: The Winter Soldier thanks to his connection with the Russo brothers, who directed the 2014 Marvel movie and produced several seasons of Community. He’s now in new workplace comedy/superhero series Powerless, which will premiere on NBC mid-season. The series is about insurance adjusters specializing in regular-people coverage against damage caused by crime-fighting superheroes. Pudi talks about his character Teddy and makes a funny observation about how superheroes and us regular folk are different in the video interview below: Lanter, meanwhile, has supplied his voice to a few Marvel animated TV and video game projects, »

NBC fall schedule puts 'Timeless' after 'The Voice' and comedy on Thursday

Upfront week has begun — essentially, it began last week, as the broadcast networks began cancelling lots of shows and ordering new series — with NBC's announcement of its fall schedule, which has echoes of many past NBC schedules:  high-concept new dramas airing Mondays after The Voice, a Wednesday lineup of crime shows, yet another Dick Wolf-produced Chicago series, and a new attempt to revive the network's old Thursday comedy brand — albeit without NBC's best comedy, The Carmichael Show, which is still in limbo. (On a conference call with reporters, NBC boss Bob Greenblatt said he's still negotiating with the studio over the number of episodes for a third season.) Update: NBC has since closed a deal to renew the series for a 13-episode third season.  The lineup, night-by-night: Monday: The Voice leads into Timeless, from Supernatural creator Eric Kripke and The Shield boss Shawn Ryan, about a trio of time travelers (Abigail Spencer, »
