Lindsay Lohan gets a close-up with her pint-sized porn co-star James Deen in the latest trailer for “The Canyons,” a farce, comedy, spoof, drama (whatever) about 20-somethings trying to hustle for living in the shadow of Hollywood. Funny thing, the trailer is actually a “parody,” according to the film’s Facebook page. The film is “about the dangers of sexual obsession and ambition,” among young Hollywood wannabes. Bret Easton Ellis wrote the screenplay. [...] »
We got a 1970s-style teaser, and then a 1950s-style trailer, and it’s only logical turn now for the final one in the form of a 1930s-style preview.
The gritty story of a sensuous woman (Lindsay Lohan) torn between two men, one of whom is played by porn star James Deen is reportedly completed and the next step is to screen for multi-platform distribs.
The other love is played by Nolan Funk in the upcoming contemporary L.A. noir movie. If you like pulpy, old-looking black & white B-movies, or tabloid queen Lindsay Lohan, you will like this film. The trailer gives us a much better look at the ensemble, but this seems like a minor detail to reveal anything.

Charlie Kaufman will return (with a cartoon)
Although Kaufman's second directorial film, Frank Or Francis, seems to be mired in development purgatory, this May we'll get to see his hour-long stop-motion animation Anomalisa. Exec-produced by Community creator Dan Harmon, it was funded by Kickstarter: 5,770 backers pledged over $400,000 and, depending on how much they donated, they will be rewarded with everything from screen credits to nights out drinking with the crew.
Diablo Cody is going to have a good year
While a remake of Sam Raimi's 1981 horror The Evil Dead may seem like a perfectly pointless exercise, the fact that Sam Raimi co-wrote the new script himself and then hired confirmed horror fan Diablo Cody to rework it is reason for optimism. After this year's brilliant Young Adult was underseen and overlooked, 2013 should be kinder to Cody, »

Ellis delivers latest Twitter gaffe by suggesting a man wouldn't have won best director Oscar with The Hurt Locker
The novelist and screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis has found himself embroiled in yet another Twitter row after suggesting that the Oscar-winning director of The Hurt Locker, Kathryn Bigelow, is "overrated" due to being a "very hot woman".
Ellis is famous for his run-on 140-character rants on the microblogging service and previously landed himself in hot water when he suggested that the homosexual Us actor Matt Bomer was "too gay" to star in an upcoming film adaptation of the knee-trembling literary sensation Fifty Shades of Grey. He also compared watching the TV show Glee to stepping "into a puddle of HIV" last year and joked about holding a party following the death of The Catcher in the Rye author Jd Salinger in 2010.

It's almost not worth mentioning, because sexism from a misogynist really doesn't deserve any attention-- but Bret Easton Ellis attempting to degrade Kathryn Bigelow and her latest directorial effort--which happens to be kicking ass on the awards circuit--is an embarassment (for him) and a rather blatant indication that the conversation around the industry's gender inequality is far from over. The "American Psycho" writer took to Twitter to declare that, “Kathryn Bigelow would be considered a mildly interesting filmmaker if she was a man but since she’s a very hot woman she’s really overrated.” He goes on to say that her films are not "visionary filmmaking," but rather "just Ok junk." Just a reminder--Ellis' latest film, "The Canyons," stars Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen, which he and director Paul Schrader raised funds for on Kickstarter. Yes, this is the same man who said that »

If my predictions come out right, this year’s Sundance will be heavy on the porn thematic. Couple of Sundance editions back Soderbergh pulled out The Girlfriend Experience as the fest’s secret/surprise film and that was when several folks discovered starlet Sasha Grey. This year, we could find James Deen (that is Lohan’s bed-partner in the pic above) make the jump with Paul Schrader’s The Canyons. Schrader has been at the fest twice before with 92′s Light Sleeper and who could forget 98′s Affliction, but this Kickstarter funded item is perhaps part of a new wave of future Sundance entries – trending crowd-sourcing films from established auteurs. Production began in July, post-prod in September and we’ve witnessed a slew of media items since. The Lindsay Lohan vehicle/Bret Easton Ellis (The Informers cracked the fest line-up in 2008) could spill the most ink in Park City and »

This story first appeared in the Nov. 23 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. Immediately after adult film star James Deen wrapped production of The Canyons in August, he returned to porn and has since shot more than 100 scenes for hardcore movies. The 26-year-old dubbed by ABC's Nightline as porn's "wholesome-looking boy-next-door" wouldn't have it any other way. Lindsay Lohan is back in a new teaser-trailer for Paul Schrader's "The Canyons" -- and even if it's not clear that any of the footage shown is from the actual film, it does feature Lohan doing her best to act like "a sensual woman torn between two loves" -- James Deen and Nolan Funk. Also read: Lindsay Lohan's 'The Canyons' Trailer: It's Supposed to Be Cheesy, Right? Lindsay Lohan has gambled her on-screen credibility on Director Paul Schrader’s and writer Bret Easton Ellis’s film noir spoof “The Canyons.” At least it looks like a spoof. The acting is terrible in a new trailer. Hopefully, “The Canyons” won’t unravel on her. She stars with porn star James Deen, making his first legitimate film appearance. The trailer is shot in black and white and is produced, with all the cliches, like a preview to a ’50s-era drama. [...] »
Today we have a new trailer for "The Canyons," a sexual thriller that stars Lindsay Lohan and male porn star James Deen (Batman XXX: A Porn Parody). Check it out below. "The Canyons" follows sex and crime among a group of twentysomethings in Los Angeles. Deen is playing a manipulative trust-fund kid with dreams of making a movie. Lohan will play his girlfriend, addicted to a materialist lifestyle. The new movie is written by "American Psycho" author Bret Easton Ellis and directed by Paul Schrader (Auto Focus). Trailer: »
I was willing to give indie sexual thriller The Canyons after its first trailer promised a gritty, grindhouse feel, but the follow-up trailer for director Paul Schrader's picture takes a whole new spin on things by playing up a 1950s melodramatic tone. Both trailers are clearly poking fun at the film itself with the first being more successful because it didn't show any actual scenes of dialogue. They should have stuck with that plan. Principal actors Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen are unbearable for even this ninety-second trailer, so I can just imagine what sort of torture is in store for audiences when the indie film debuts "on an internet server of your choice." Hit the jump to see for yourself. Check out the new trailer below (via Heat Vision). If you make it through the whole thing, let me know how it ends: Here’s the »

Based on the number of websites that rushed to get up this latest trailer for The Canyons starring Lindsay Lohan and a porn star named James Deen (Girth Brooks was his first choice, but it was taken) you'd think it was a movie people would actually care to see. New "'50s Style Trailer for The Canyons!" the headlines read... I clicked. I watched... 48 seconds of it. I don't know where the joke ends and the movie begins, but this trailer is promoting something no one wants to watch unless they're drunk, high or deceased so it probably doesn't matter. The Canyons is described as a contemporary L.A. noir about the dangers of sexual obsession and ambition, both personally and professionally, among a group of young people in their 20s and how one chance meeting connected to the past unravels all of their lives, resulting in deceit, paranoia, cruel mind games and ultimately violence. »

Writer Bret Easton Ellis and "American Gigolo" writer-director Paul Schrader sure have taken a creative approach to promoting their upcoming seedy-looking indie "The Canyons." First came a decidedly bizarre teaser that consisted of endless establishing shots of Los Angeles, minus any footage of the film's two stars, Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen. Then a Grindhouse-style teaser hit the web, offering us our first glimpse of the two in action and selling "The Canyons" as an old-school trash fest. And now, the looniest trailer yet for the thriller has dropped: a black-and-white 1950s-inspired affair that features new salacious footage and an intentionally corny voice-over that promises "The Canyons" will showcase a "Los Angeles you have never seen before." If the latest trailer's to be trusted (and, given the tongue-in-cheek tone, the jury's out on that one), don't expect to see "The »

Indie maverick genius or a self indulgent wank? It's hard to imagine critical responses to Paul Schrader's upcoming The Canyons varying too greatly from either of those two poles. Written by Bret Easton Ellis, crowd funded on Kickstarter and boasting an odd cast of Lindsay Lohan, porn star James Deen and director Gus Van Sant, The Canyons has just released a new teaser with a deliberate 1950s vibe. By which I mean they overlaid some fake film grain. The Canyons is a contemporary L.A. noir from director Paul Schrader, writer Bret Easton Ellis, and producer Braxton Pope about the dangers of sexual obsession and ambition, both personally and professionally, among a group of young people in their 20′s and how one chance meeting connected to the »
After seeing a landscape teaser trailer focused on Hollywood and a weird grindhouse style teaser for The Canyons from Taxi Driver director Paul Schrader and American Psycho writer Bret Easton Ellis, we thought a real teaser trailer might be in our future. However, now we're getting a 1950s style trailer for the drama following a group of young people in their 20′s and how one chance meeting connected to the past unravels all of their lives, resulting in deceit, paranoia, cruel mind games and ultimately violence. Porn star James Deen makes his feature film debut, and he looks to be pretty terrible, just like the sound in this trailer (which might have been done on purpose). We're really not sure what to think of this, but it's weird. Here's the new trailer for Paul Schrader's The Canyons via The Film Stage: It’s not The Hills, it's The Canyons. »

Almost everything about it seems tongue-in-cheek. From the 1950s-esque black-and-white alongside a deep announcer voice declaring, “From the pen of Twitter-obsessed author Bret Easton Ellis” and “directed by the never-nominated director Paul Schrader,” the clip seems designed to let viewers know they anticipate what your reaction will be to this movie — and that they’re in on the joke.
Elsewhere in the over-the-top homage to a different era doubling as a promo for the Kickstarter-funded project, Lohan’s character says “I guess I’d »

If you thought that Paul Schrader and the team behind "The Canyons" might be a bit cagey about the crowd-sourced nature of his indie film, guess again. Not only have they been playful (see the grindhouse style teaser), they are now fully embracing their outsider status with this new B-movie-style trailer for the film, which promises lots of pulp. And no studio involvement. Starring the unlikely duo of Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen (being "introduced" here, though if you've glanced at XXX material any time recently you've likely seen his face or...other parts) the film is a contemporary L.A. noir, exploring the dangers of sexual obsession and ambition, both personally and professionally, among a group of young people in their 20s. One chance meeting connected to the past unravels all of their lives, resulting in deceit, paranoia, and ultimately violence. The spots so far are certainly »

After years of earning more headlines for her personal dramas than for her professional performances, Lindsay Lohan has been reduced to cameo roles that mock her fallen starlet image and TV movies that hope to gain viewers by her scandalous involvement. Her latest film project The Canyons penned by sleazy L.A. satirist Bret Easton Ellis and co-starring porn star James Deen seems like a joke. But at least its marketing team seems in on it. The thriller that promises to be about youth, glamor and sex in 2012 Los Angeles has not secured domestic distribution. Nonetheless, it's dropping a second trailer. Where the first painted this vague tale of vapid people with a gritty yet super-saturated grindhouse sheen, the second favors the salacious sales pitch methods of 1950s-era dramas, stripping the footage of color, caking it in film scratches and topping it off with a retro title treatment. Lindsay Lohan has featured in a new trailer for the upcoming thriller The Canyons. The 1950s B-movie-style teaser also stars porn actor James Deen and Glee's Nolan Funk. The Paul Schrader-directed indie film is written by American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis, and follows "five 20-somethings' quest for power, love, sex and success in 2012 Hollywood". Lohan is introduced as "A sensuous woman! Torn between (more) »
