Sundance Shorts: Rat Pack Rat Review

19 January 2014 9:00 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Director: Todd Rohal.

Starring: Eddie Rouse, Steve Little, Margie Beegle.

Synopsis: A Sammy Davis, Jr. impersonator is hired via Craigslist to perform for a boy’s birthday party. However, the boy is not a boy at all, but a bed-ridden and severely ill man (Little). Connected to hoses, tubes and IV’s, the man has a very specific short list of requests for Sammy Davis, Jr.

Short films can always be tricky. Their very nature means that they have a distinctly limited amount of time to convey a story. The only way to deliver an impressive short is to make sure that you have a good hook to your story, Rat Pack Rat has definitely managed to find not one, but several.

Funded through Kickstarter, Rat Pack Rat is an exceptionally quirky movie that is comically dark in tone, and will get you thinking. You can’t not feel sorry »

Craig Robinson comedy revived at NBC with 6-episode order

6 January 2014 3:30 PM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

After passing over a comedy pilot from Craig Robinson last spring, NBC has changed its mind and given the show a six-episode order.

"Mr. Robinson" stars "The Office" alum Robinson as a musician who gets a job teaching at a middle school, where he chafes under the school's rules. As seen on "The Office" and occasionally in his stand-up comedy, Robinson has some musical chops himself.

The pickup comes with some changes behind the scenes. Robb and Mark Cullen, coming off ABC's canceled "Back in the Game," are joining the series as executive producers and showrunners, while "Office" Ep Greg Daniels has left the project. (Another "Office" veteran, Owen Ellickson, wrote the pilot script.)

Robinson and the Cullens previously worked together on "Lucky," an FX comedy that ran for one season in 2003.

The rest of the "Mr. Robinson" cast -- Jean Smart, Larenz Tate, Amanda Lund, Amandla Stenberg and Steve Little »
