The Full, Funky Soundtrack For Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

9 May 2017 9:55 AM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

One of the biggest reasons we all fell for Guardians of the Galaxy back in 2014 is its retro soundtrack that possibly made you feel like you were at a rowdy wedding reception in 1982. We're happy to report that the soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is just as fun. The 14-track collection includes hits from Fleetwood Mac, Electric Light Orchestra, Cheap Trick, and Cat Stevens. Listen to all the songs here, and scroll to the end for a Spotify playlist! ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Scores ‘The Hoff’ and Another Soundtrack Hit in ‘Awesome Mix Vol. 2’

8 May 2017 4:23 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The mixtape-as-movie concept has proven a hitmaker for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” which vaulted to the top of the box office with a $145 million domestic weekend haul based largely on the power of classic rock. The plot hinges on a Walkman-wearing intergalactic superhero, fond of his mom’s circa 1970s era classic rock.

Writer-director James Gunn makes no secret of the fact that he crafts the pacing of the story around songs he’s selected for his soundtracks, and uses music on the set to help the actors get their saving-the-universe-old-school groove on. “He films to score,” says the film’s composer Tyler Bates. “The cast wears earbuds that are digitally removed later, so they’re moving to the cadence of the music.”

Derived from the Marvel comic book series, 2014’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” made $733 million worldwide, earning Gunn quite a bit more coin for Vol. 2’s sync licensing. »

Marvel Music/Hollywood Records have released the digital versions of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Awesome Mix Vol. 2 songs-only album and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 original score album by composer Tyler Bates (“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “John Wick Chapter 2,” “Watchmen”).

The film opens in U.S. theaters on May 5, 2017.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 is filled with great action, humor and performances, but it is also infused with a new mixed tape and soundtrack, a dynamic that resonated deeply with audiences in the first film as evidenced by the success of the soundtrack album.  The Grammy-nominated “Guardians of the Galaxy” soundtrack reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, becoming the first soundtrack album consisting entirely of previously released songs to top the chart. The album was certified Platinum by the R.I.A.A.

19 April 2017 10:34 PM, PDT | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

David Hasselhoff is officially in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 -- well, on the soundtrack, at least.

The former Baywatch star and '80s pop sensation provided the vocals for the only original track of the movie's Awesome Mix Vol. 2, and he opened up to Et about how the song, "Guardian's Inferno," came about.

"You know, I asked [director] James Gunn why he chose me. He said, 'When I was 8 years old, I saw a show called Knight Rider [and] since that day I've always wanted to meet you and to kind of live by the laws of the Knight Rider," Hasselhoff told Et's Cameron Mathison at the premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on Wednesday.

The Contents Of Awesome Mix Vol. 2 Have Been Revealed Ahead Of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2; Chris Pratt Teases Star-Lord’s Future

19 April 2017 9:26 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

From “Spirit in the Sky” to Blue Swede’s infectious “Hooked on a Feeling” – a song that has since become synonymous with Marvel’s galactic anti-heroes – the soundtrack to Guardians of the Galaxy was arguably the most crowd-pleasing element of James Gunn’s 2014 sleeper hit. And that’s really saying something, given the film featured a talking tree and a warrior that struggled to wrap his head around the concept of a metaphor.

With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 now teetering on the verge of its theatrical release, the level of interest in Star-Lord and the crew has grown astronomically in the past three years, though if there’s one ingredient that James Gunn has carried over from the first movie, it’s fist-pumping power ballads. Now, Rolling Stone has officially cracked open Awesome Mix Vol. 2 to reveal the songs set to feature throughout Guardians 2.

While Shawn Mendes knows each of his fans will interpret his lyrics differently, the teen pop sensation’s intended message with hit single “Mercy” might not be what they’d expect.

“‘Mercy,’ I love conceptually, because I feel like you can either think about it as if it were a girl – which it sounds like it could be about a girl – but I like to picture it as pleading for mercy for my career, type of thing,” Mendes explains in a new Front and Center interview from the Melrose Ballroom in Queens, New York.
