- Carl Yastrzemski gave videotaped congratulations to him during his uniform number retirement ceremony in Houston. On the video, Yastrzemski revealed that he had seen his potential and had pleaded with the Boston Red Sox not to trade Bagwell. The Red Sox chose still to trade him, and the rest is history.
