Late last week we were treated to the first images of Franck Khalfoun’s remake of the graphic 1980 psycho-thriller Maniac. The original film, directed by William Lustig and starring the late Rocky and The Godfather actor Joe Spinell, told the disturbing tale of Frank, a man whose abuse as a child from his domineering mother, led to psychopathic behaviour on the dark, sleazy streets of New York. The notorious realistic gore effects came from make-up legend Tom Savini.
Here we have the chilling teaser trailer from the updated version, written and produced by Piranha 3D and The Hills Have Eyes remake director Alexandre Aja along with filmmaking partner Gregory Lavesseur. Elijah Wood takes the over lead role of Frank, starring alongside America Olivo, Nora Arnezeder, Morgane Slemp and Liane Balaban, likely playing the victims of his obsessive killing spree.

An incomplete French teaser trailer, unfortunately. But what you do get (around 90 seconds) is pretty intense, it is in English, and more importantly, Elijah Wood is pretty wicked. Really, who knew Frodo Baggins could be so scary? The film is currently selling over at Cannes, so who knows when we’ll get the full trailer/teaser, but when we do get it we will update this post. Until then, this will just have to do. Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. A new teaser trailer for the Franck Khalfoun helmed remake of psycho flick 'Maniac', starring Elijah Wood ('Sin City'), has emerged from the Cannes Film Festival. The movie co-stars Nora Arnezeder ('Safe House'), Hank Azaria ('Run Fatboy Run'), America Olivo ('Bitch Slap', 'No One Lives') and Sal Landi and the freaky new teaser which is largely Pov features various elements of brutality, nudity, horror and a topless chick. Alexandre Aja ('The Hills Have Eyes', 'Mirrors', 'Piranha 3D') and co-writer Gregory Levasseur once again get their teeth into a redo by providing the script based on the original William Lustig helmed horror from 1980. As if these images from Elijah Wood's remake of the 1980 slasher flick, Maniac, weren't disturbing enough, here's a new trailer to haunt your dreams. This Nsfw first look at the Franck Khalfoun-directed thriller features nudity, gruesome violence and the scalping of not just the dime-store mannequins, but real live women as well. The original, directed by William Lustig, starred Joe Spinell as Frank, a psychopath with a history of childhood abuse who takes women's scalps as trophies. Wood is doing his best to out-creep Spinell in this trailer and I dare say that he has succeeded. Maniac also stars America Olivo and Nora Arnezeder. Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The 'Maniac' remake is coming to life at last by revealing a trio of new stills from the redo based on William Lustig's 80's slasher flick. The pics have appeared ahead of its premiere this month and features two of its stars Elijah Wood ('Sin City') - looking bloody, and Nora Arnezeder ('Safe House') looking hot. Franck Khalfoun's ('P2') directs from a script provided by Gregory Levasseur and horror remake expert Alexandre Aja ('The Hills Have Eyes', 'Mirrors', 'Piranha 3D'). Hank Azaria ('Run Fatboy Run'), America Olivo ('Bitch Slap', 'No One Lives') and Sal Landi also star in the upcoming slash fest. Anyone old enough to remember or has seen Willam Lustig’s ace-but-infamous 1980 exploitation horror Maniac, will be interested to see just how a new remake lives up to the original. Elijah Wood takes over the role of Frank, originally played by the late, great Joe Spinell, in which we followed a rather troubled psychotic man on an orgy of gruesome violence – and an obsession will a stunning female photographer. The film featured gag-inducing gore effects from make-up master Tom Savini.
Here we have the first images from the film that has P2 director Franck Khalfoun at the helm. Maniac will also feature America Olivo, Nora Arnezeder, Sal Landi and Megan Duffy. The film is written and produced by Piranha 3D and The Hills Of Eyes’ Alexandra Aja and Gregory Lavasseur.
