A professional photographer by age 12 and avid Super 8 Filmmaker through High School, Pete Coggan took a career detour from Filmmaking upon discovering that Rock n' Roll Musicians tended to get more dates than aspiring Filmmakers in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Studying Performance Music and Audio Engineering through his teens and early twenties, he moved to Los Angeles in 1991 to pursue his career as a Musician and Audio Engineer. A closet computer geek, Pete has always had the foresight to see the future of his industry and has had the ability to be a successful early adopter of "bleeding edge" technologies. Using computers when the rest of the Music Industry was on tape, he quickly found himself more involved in the production of Music Videos than performing in them. Pete rediscovered his true calling, Filmmaking, upon being the only person able to use a light meter on a music video shoot in 1993. The DP was a no-show, but Peter, the playback engineer, took on the responsibility to save the shoot. After several tense days, the shoot proved a huge success. Shortly thereafter Pete found himself doing more Film and Video work than Audio Engineering. Having carved out the unique roll of Cinematographer and Post Production Guru, in 2001, Pete decided it was time to resume making his own movies. Making his home in Boulder, Colorado, with his wife, Caroline, and three young kids, he realized that there was simply no infrastructure in Colorado capable of handling 2K+ feature film projects. Pete formed 42 Productions to rectify the situation. With an impressive list of accomplishments and industry firsts, 42 Productions has asserted itself as the preeminent Production Company in Colorado and regularly works with several major studios. The 42 Productions production equation was completed when the first two RED ONE cameras in the region, Han and Chewie, arrived in December 2007. Within 2 Weeks of their arrival, Pete and 42 Productions were in principal photography on their feature film, "Woodshop". As Post on Woodshop approaches the finish line, Pete is on pre-production on "Coda" slated for 2009 as well as several more films already in the pipe for the next 5 years.
Determined to remain a Boulderite, Pete will bring a unique and fresh perspective to whatever project he is involved in. Stay tuned.
