Journey of the Childmen is a brand new documentary film following The Mighty Boosh has they head out on their massive ‘Future Sailors’ UK tour . Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt have grown into cult comedy icons whose surrealist brand of humour hasn’t been seen since the days of Monty Python nearly forty years ago.
FilmShaft’s Michael Brooks caught up with director Olly Ralfe to discuss the art of documentary film-making, following comedians on tour and attempting to capture what makes them so memorable and loved.
Fs:How did Journey of the childmen come about? And when did you get involved with the Mighty Boosh crew?
Or: Julian and Noel enjoyed my first film The Ballad of Aj Weberman which is about a Bob Dylan stalker from New York. This led to Julian and Noel asking me to film their tour. They are old friends and I’ve done a...

Journey of the Childmen is the second documentary from film-maker Oliver Ralfe, whose début was the fascinating Ballard of Aj Weberman – an intimate piece that chronicles the life and crimes of notorious Bob Dylan obsessive and Garbology inventor A.J Weberman.
This is a similarity intimate film focusing on the artists behind The Mighty Boosh (Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt) as they journey across the United Kingdom on their massive Future Sailors tour.

It should come as no surprise, I suppose, that when UK cult comedy icons The Mighty Boosh set out to make a live film the end results are something ... unusual.
Directed by Oliver Ralfe, Journey of the Childmen follows the Boosh on their Future Sailors tour but no standard live performance film is this. Nope, this looks far more edgy and surreal than standard comedy film fare, which seems rather apt given its subjects. Journey of the Childmen is engaging in some limited Us theatrical dates now, so check the official site to see if it's hitting a theater near you!
