Ian McKellen, Susan Sarandon among actors to back Living Wage campaign

Campaign is calling for Picturehouse owner Cineworld to pay its staff the London Living Wage.

Ian McKellen, Susan Sarandon and Mark Rylance are among actors to have lent their names to a campaign calling for Picturehouse and Cineworld cinemas to pay their staff the London Living Wage.

According to UK entertainment union Bectu, a host of actors and directors have signed a letter which will be delivered to Cineworld CEO Mooky Greidinger.

As previously reported by Screen, the letter calls for Cineworld to pay staff at its venues - which include the Picturehouse cinema chain - the London Living Wage of £9.75 per hour. The letter proposes boycotting the cinemas if staff is not paid the Wage.

Lowest paid staff at Picturehouse’s Brixton location the Ritzy currently earn £9.10 per hour, while some staff at other Picturehouse locations in London earn £9.05 per hour. Outside of London, the rate is £8.18.

Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer will lend her voice to one of Mass Effect: Andromeda‘s characters, BioWare has announced via a new video. Set to play the role of Dr. Lexi T’Perro, the Asari will be a crew member of The Tempest and provide medical aid to the player’s Ryder character and their companions as they travel across the galaxy. ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Alfie Allen Joins ‘The Predator’ Reboot

Game of Thrones” star Alfie Allen is joining Fox’s “The Predator,” a reboot of the alien action franchise that launched in 1987.

Shane Black is directing from a script by Fred Dekker. John Davis, Joel Silver, and Lawrence Gordon — who produced the original — are returning for the reboot as well. Fox has already scheduled “The Predator” for a Feb. 9, 2018, opening.

Major plot details are being kept under wraps other than the movie being set in suburbia. “Narcos” star Boyd Holbrook replaced Benicio del Toro as the lead back in October. The cast also includes Jacob Tremblay, Trevante Rhodes, Olivia MunnSterling K. Brown, and Keegan-Michael Key.

The original “Predator” was directed by John McTiernan and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, and Jesse Ventura as commandos attempting to rescue hostages while being stalked in a jungle in Central America by a fearsome extra-terrestrial, played by Kevin Peter Hall.

Deadline is reporting that Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer has signed on for a TV adaptation of Joan Lindsay’s classic novel Picnic at Hanging Rock, which is slated to go into production this month ahead of an Australian premiere later in the year. As with the novel, the six-part series will explore the mysterious disappearances of three schoolgirls and a teacher from Appleyard College on Valentine’s Day in 1990.

The FremantleMedia Australia production, described as a “re-imagining” of Joan Lindsay’s novel, centers on the mysterious disappearance of three schoolgirls and a teacher on Valentine’s Day in 1900.

The teachers of Appleyard College for Young Ladies will be played by French actress Lola Bessis (“Cassandra,” “Swim Little Fish Swim”), recently included in Interview magazine’s list of “Hollywood’s most wanted” acting talent; Yael Stone (“Orange Is the New Black,” “Deep Water”); Anna McGahan (“The Doctor Blake Mysteries,” “Anzac Girls”); and Sibylla Budd (“Tomorrow When the War Began,” “Winners & Losers”).

Paramount Pictures has put out offers to Mel Gibson and John Lithgow to star in their upcoming comedy sequel Daddy's Home 2. While nothing is set in stone yet, their prospects for joining this comedy sequel reportedly look "promising." No details have been given about what characters they may portray, but it's possible they could be playing the fathers of Will Ferrell's Brad Whitaker and Mark Wahlberg's Dusty Mayron.
