So much for trying to get folks to tune into the premiere of The White Princess on the west coast! (The network will make it available for social media on Monday morning).

24 February 2017 3:35 PM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

It's time for a Droughtlander update!

As all Outlander fans should know by now, season three of our beloved time-traveling drama will not be premiering on Starz until September, which means we still have at least seven more months until we reunite with our favorite Frasers.

To help cope with this prolonged hiatus, we at Et have already released a special interview with stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe from our season three set visit in Scotland, and we have plenty of more exclusive behind-the-scenes goodies that we're going to release over these next few months.

In the meantime, Et caught up with Balfe, who was being honored at the 2017 Oscar Wilde Awards on Thursday night, to get her thoughts on Outlander's extended on-screen absence and some inside scoop on what's ahead!

"Yeah, [the Droughtlander] is a little longer than I think people thought. Sorry!" Balfe said apologetically to Et's Ashley Crossan.

It’s been a long wait for “Outlander” fans, but there is light at the end of this particular tunnel: Season 3 will premiere in September 2017, Starz says.

That’ll make a gap (the “Droughtlander”) of about 14 months between Seasons 2 and 3. Season 3 began production in September 2016 and will finish in June — and is moving from misty, rugged Scotland to the slightly sunnier Cape Town, South Africa. Stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan taped a message to mark the occasion and thank their Scottish crew:

The story in Season 3 picks up right after Claire (Balfe) travels through the stones to return to her life in 1948. Now pregnant with Jamie’s (Heughan) child, she struggles with the fallout of her sudden reappearance and its effect on her marriage to her first husband, Frank (Tobias Menzies). Outlander Season 3: Mr. Willoughby and Captain Thomas Leonard Cast

30 January 2017 10:57 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Starz released news today about the casting of two more roles for Outlander Season 3.

Gary Young has been tapped to play Mr. Willoughby and Charlie Hiett will join in the role of Captain Thomas Leonard.

A Chinese man with a deep knowledge of Eastern medicine, Mr. Willoughby is a talented poet in exile, with an even deeper love of women.

Willoughby, a confidante of Jamie Fraser, speaks English well, but hides it when it suits him. He is even more of an outsider than Claire in 18th century Scotland.

New Zealand native Gary Young is a graduate of the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in London and Toi Whakaari New Zealand Drama School.

Young most recently appeared in the Netflix feature Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny and the Australian miniseries Secret City.

“Outlander’s” Caitriona Balfe to Receive an Oscar Wilde Award

17 January 2017 2:02 PM, PST | Women and Hollywood | See recent Women and Hollywood news »

Caitriona Balfe in “Outlander

Two-time Golden Globe nominee and BAFTA winner Caitriona Balfe is set to receive an Oscar Wilde Award, a press release has announced. The Irish actress and “Outlander” star will receive the honor at the annual Us-Ireland Alliance event, which recognizes the Irish in entertainment, on February 23 in Santa Monica.

“It’s been a great year for Irish actresses and we’re delighted to honor one who is receiving well-deserved recognition for her success in ‘Outlander,’” said Trina Vargo, founder of the Us-Ireland Alliance. “Given Caitriona’s intense schedule of time travel, and the cold and rainy Scottish weather, our event should be relaxing for her. The one thing that ‘Outlander’ and the Oscar Wilde Awards have in common is whiskey,” she joked.

Outlander” is based based on the best-selling book series by Diana Gabaldon. The show’s sophomore season concluded in July of 2016. Unfortunately, a premiere date for Season 3 of the Starz time traveling drama hasn’t been announced just yet, but the show is expected to resume sometime this year. Balfe plays the series’ lead, Claire Fraser.

“While ‘Outlander’ is a brilliant period show, Claire represents so many qualities of a 20th-century modern-day woman, someone who is forging her own path, fighting for what she believes, and doing so with integrity,” Balfe has said. She elaborated, “Right now it’s a very important time to stand up and voice our beliefs and reiterate that we are 50 percent of the population . . . that we have a voice and we need to use it. Even though Claire is a woman from the 40s, I think that she does have a resonance today. We need to stand up for our beliefs and our rights, and I think she embodies that kind of spirit.”

Balfe’s other credits include “Money Monster,” “The Price of Desire,” and “Now You See Me

Outlander’s” Caitriona Balfe to Receive an Oscar Wilde Award was originally published in Women and Hollywood on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story. »
