'Men at Work' creator Breckin Meyer: 'I just wanted to make myself laugh'

24 May 2012 3:00 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Luckily for Turner Broadcasting and its family of cable channels, Breckin Meyer doesn't believe in taking time off.

"I only work for Turner," says Meyer, in his offices on the Sony lot in Culver City, Calif. "That's what I realized. I have 'Robot Chicken,' 'Men at Work,' 'Franklin & Bash.' Me and Sethy have decided that we're bored, and we want to keep doing stuff. We don't like hiatuses."

"Sethy" is Seth Green, creator of Adult Swim's animated "Robot Chicken," for which Meyer writes and does voice work. Meyer also co-stars with Mark-Paul Gosselaar in -- and does some writing for -- the TNT legal comedy/drama "Franklin & Bash," which returns for its second season on June 5.

But first, on Thursday, May 24, Meyer achieves a trifecta of Turner cablenets when his new creation, "Men at Work," premieres on the comedy-oriented TBS.

TV Review: Strong Cast Deserves Better Than Generic ‘Men at Work’

24 May 2012 7:32 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – There are some talented people starring in TBS’s new sitcom “Men at Work,” another attempt to grow the budding cable network’s brand as a home for comedy. Following “Conan,” Tyler Perry’s sitcoms, highly rated repeats of “The Big Bang Theory,” and the announcement that “Cougar Town” will move to the net from ABC, TBS is finally starting to attempt to live up to its slogan of “Very Funny.” Sadly, “Men at Work” doesn’t meet that description. How about “Kinda Funny But Mostly Stupid”?

TV Rating: 2.5/5.0

The true shame is that there are a number of clearly talented, funny guys involved with “Men at Work”…but they’re given the kind of cliched, boring jokes that most sitcom viewers grew tired of in 1992. Yes, it’s another show about a group of boisterous, outgoing guys who think the word “balls” is hilarious and like to say »

In the never-ending scramble to find the early front-runners for Academy Award consideration, Ben Affleck's third directorial effort "Argo" has been popping up in most conversations for all the usual reasons. (Those reasons do not include Affleck's sideburns.)

First, Affleck is coming off of two critical and financial successes in a row with "Gone Baby Gone" and "The Town." Then, there's the stranger-than-fiction true story behind the movie and the all-star supporting cast, which includes John Goodman, Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, and Kyle "Coach Taylor" Chandler. Yep, it's got awards consideration written all over it.

Check out the first trailer for Ben Affleck's "Argo" after the jump!

"Argo" tells the story of a CIA mission to rescue American hostages, stuck in Iran after the invasion of the Us embassy. Affleck's character, Tony Mendez, concocts a scheme to pose as a Canadian film crew looking to shoot their sci-fi movie in Iran, »
