Mm@M: A Place in the What?

2 November 2009 9:29 AM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

It's been a month since I did one of these Mad Men posts and I'm still on the first season. I mean that only in the sense of these posts. I'm right up to date on the actual Mad Men show, which wraps Season 3 up next weekend. I hate to see it go but at least I'll catch up on the blog with the movie references. (Find the silver lining!)

1.11 "Indian Summer"

Rachel Menken (Maggie Siff) has confessed to her sister Barbara (Rebecca Creskoff) that she's seeing Don Draper, a married man. Her sister is understandably concerned...

Barbara: All I know is what I see in the movies. It's magical and then they start talking about him leaving his wife... and then he doesn't. I saw this one where the husband gets the woman pregnant so he kills her.

You don't want to be that woman.Hmmm. Help me out here, »

Sons of Anarchy: How Long Will Tara Keep Gemma's Secret?

27 October 2009 2:50 PM, PDT | TVGuide.com - Features | See recent TVGuide - Features news »

The brutal gang rape that Gemma (Katey Sagal) suffered in the Season 2 premiere of Sons of Anarchy caused plenty of pain — and it forged a bond between Gemma and would-be daughter-in-law Tara (Maggie Siff).

"They're really different on the surface, but in some ways they are cut of the same cloth," Siff tells TVGuide.com.

One thing they both have in common: their love for Gemma's son, Jax (Charlie Hunnam). Tara's involvement in Jax's life has led her back to the rough-and-tumble lifestyle of the Samcro motorcycle club, something that also brought her closer to Gemma.

"Gemma has decided to help Tara figure out how to navigate the ropes," Siff says. "What's required is that you know what the code is, and Gemma is helping her with that."

Maggie Siff: Education of Tara Knowles Ahead on Sons of Anarchy

13 October 2009 12:18 PM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

As Tara Knowles on Sons of Anarchy, Maggie Siff has a lot ahead of her over the next few weeks.

Asked what's ahead for her character, the actress preview upcoming storylines to E! News by saing: "This season is the education of Tara Knowles."

What does that mean, exactly? During episode eight, for example, Jax and company get incarcerated. In response, Tara will mortgage her father's house for bail money, and show a fierce side when it comes to watching over Opie's kids.

Preview: Sons of Anarchy 2.03 'Fix'

22 September 2009 8:35 AM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

If you think Jax and Tara can finally have their happily ever after, you're sadly mistaken (and you obviously don't watch enough television).  Tonight their relationship is put further to the test as Tara learns more about Jax's involvement in Luanne's porn business.  Thankfully for Tara she gets a crash course from Gemma in how to lay claim to her man.

Also tonight Zobelle comes up with a problem  that Hale can solve which will frustrate Samcro and the League will take some bold new steps in their quest to bring down the biker gang, by reaching out to local law and force the club to take desperate measures.  And finally Gemma's rape is really effecting her relationship with Clay.  All of this and more on tonight's Son's of Anarchy.

Tiff #10: Philosophy, pot, murder, poetry

17 September 2009 9:58 AM, PDT | blogs.suntimes.com/ebert | See recent Roger Ebert's Blog news »

It was my last film of the festival, on the morning of the day I was flying home, and it turns out to have been my favorite one. Tim Blake Nelson's "Leaves of Grass" is some kind of sweet, wacky masterpiece. It takes all sorts of risks, including a dual role with Edward Norton playing twin brothers, and it pulls them off. It is certainly the most intelligent, philosophical and poetic film I can imagine that involves five murders in the marijuana-dealing community of Oklahoma and includes John Prine singing "Illegal Smile."

Tim Blake Nelson

Sometimes you cannot believe your luck as a movie unfolds. There is a mind behind it, joyful invention, obvious ambition. As is often the case, I had studiously avoiding reading anything at all about "Leaves of Grass" before going to see the movie, although I rather doubted it would be about Walt Whitman. What »

Chicago – There have been some very cool TV on Blu-Ray releases lately that we wanted to make sure you, our loyal readers, knew about, including “Life After People,” “Lie to Me,” and “Sons of Anarchy”.

One of the best home entertainment developments of 2009 has been the emergence of more television on Blu-Ray. Take for example this edition of the Blu-Ray Round-Up, which features a History Channel program, a Fox drama, and an action-driven FX series about to start its second season.

All three releases are part of a new wave of TV on Blu-Ray and whatever may be said about the quality of the actual programs, it’s encouraging to see more studios taking chances on HD releases. Let’s hope they all do soon.

Synopsis, cast information, technical details, and special features information follows. Pick up one. Support the movement.

[TV] Sons of Anarchy: Season One

26 August 2009 5:36 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Fun Fact: William Shakespeare loved motorcycles.

By fact, we of course mean lie – but it’s still fun. But it’s also the best explanation for the creation of Sons of Anarchy, a seamless blend of Hamlet and biker gangs. Shakespeare’s stories have been recreated and re-imagined so many times that the average piece of television or film crosses paths with a Shakespearian influence at least once or twice in its duration. With that said, an entire series twisting one of Shakespeare’s great tragedies into a story about family conflict within a motorcycle club is a thing of genius.

Even if you know nothing of motorcycle clubs (i.e. Hell’s Angels, etc.), within moments Sons of Anarchy educates you on the twisted and incestuous nature of their politics and take on family life. Clay Morrow (Ron Perlman) became the head of the Sons of Anarchy when John Teller, »

"Push" review. The conclusion of “Push” is very inventive and creative.

6 February 2009 | Upcoming-Movies.com | See recent Upcoming-Movies.com news »

"Push" review by Eric Sloss, Writer   With cold weather blanketing much of the country, “Push” is a perfect antidote for the wintertime blues.  It will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what will transpire next.   In 1945, the Nazis were experimenting on people.  They were trying to give normal people special powers to help in their cause of global domination.  They weren’t able to fully integrate their program with their loss in the war.  The American government jumped on the idea and went ahead with implementing it.  The government came up with a secret division appropriately called The Division.  Problems arise when people do not want to go with the program and want to live a normal life instead of becoming super soldiers.   There are various categories of these super powers.  There are the watchers, who can see into the future.  Movers have the power of telekinesis. »
