‘The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin’ – Episode Guide (When Will the New Episodes Air?)
Get ready for a whacky and flashy ride with a bumbling Dick Turpin. Created by Claire Downes, Ian Jarvis, and Stuart Lane, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin is a British historical comedy series that takes its inspiration from a real-life highwayman of the same name in the 18th century. The Apple TV+ series follows the story of Dick Turpin, who leaves everything behind to become the leader of a group of goofy highwaymen accidentally.
The comedy series isn’t a grounded story in any way, as it takes many leaps into the immensely absurd. So, if you are ready for this completely made-up adventure, then here is a map for the upcoming adventures.

"'Historically accurate' is subjective." Apple TV has unveiled a funny promo featurette for the wacky British comedy series The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, launching streaming to watch on March 1st (this weekend!!). Noel Fielding stars Dick Turpin, the most dangerous highway robber of the 18th century. It's based on a true story. Sort of. This comedy series is a fictional take on the life of highway robber Dick Turpin – originally Richard Turpin, an English highwayman whose exploits were romanticised following his execution in York for horse theft. By the early 1730s, he had joined a gang of deer thieves and, later, became a poacher, burglar, horse thief and killer. This is his story. Though it's all made up, at least most of it is, and some of it isn't. Co-starring alongside Fielding in the ensemble cast: Ellie White, Marc Wootton, Duayne Boachie, Hugh Bonneville, Tamsin Greig, Asim Chaudhry,...

Coming up on March 1st from AppleTV+ is yet another joyful and whimsical British comedy ‘The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin.’ Led by Mr Great British Back-off host Noel Fielding in the titular role and propped up by some of the biggest and best names in British comedy.
The six-episode Apple Original centres on Dick Turpin (Fielding), who sets out on a journey of wildly absurd escapades when he’s made the reluctant leader of a band of outlaws — and tasked with outwitting corrupt lawman and self-appointed thief-taker Jonathan Wilde (Hugh Bonneville).
In this irreverent retelling set in the 18th century, Turpin is the most famous but least likely of highway robbers, whose success is defined mostly by his charm, showmanship and great hair. Together with his gang of lovable rogues, Turpin rides the highs and lows of his new endeavours, including a brush with celebrity, all whilst trying...

All episodes were directed by Paul King, who went on to achieve national treasure status alongside Simon Farnaby for co-writing and directing the Paddington films and the recently released Wonka.
Having a steady career in British sitcoms ever since, appearing in the likes of Snuff Box, The It Crowd and headlining his own series Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy, he now leads the cast of Apple TV+ comedy The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin.

‘Never work with children or animals’, the old showbiz phrase goes, but when filming Nativity! in 2009 not only did Martin Freeman and Marc Wootton have both children and animals to contend with, they were doing it all without a script. Like Debbie Isitt’s 2006 mockumentary romcom Confetti also starring Freeman and Wootton, Nativity! was largely improvised, but how did that work on set?
Nativity! is the story of a primary school teacher (Freeman) who tries to put on a Hollywood-worthy nativity play with help from his young-at-heart teaching assistant (Wootton). Confetti, which stars a host of British comedy talent including Julia Davis, Jessica Stevenson, Olivia Colman and Robert Webb, is a wedding competition in which Freeman played one of three grooms competing with their bride to win a house.
When speaking to The York Press about both projects, Freeman explained that Nativity! had more guidance for each scene than Confetti,...

I absolutely love Christmas and the films made for it! I’ve had a hard time compiling just twenty five movies for my favourite festive films ever. But here is my list. Disagree with any of it? Have I missed out any of your favourites? Follow Nerdly on social media and let us know.
1. Home Alone
Not just my favourite Christmas movie but one of my favourite movies ever. A family somehow manage to go away for Christmas and leave their son behind home alone, while at the same time a pair of burglars are scanning that area ready to take as much as they can.
I smile from beginning to end watching Home Aloen and it’s one of those films that works just as well watching it as a child or an adult. Malculay Culkin is perfectly cast because the character should be annoying but isn’t at all.

Reaching film number four in this series of British school Nativity films is news enough. Just how is anyone’s guess? If there is a festive formula to this screen silliness, it is that us Brits love to cheer on an underdog at this time of year – even if that means encouraging more of Mr Poppy or his relatives to leap out of the woodwork. No, Marc Wootton as the infantile teacher has not returned. Meet Simon Lipkin, his cousin, Jerry, this time around.

Harry Hill, Sheridan Smith and a giant hamster wearing a Christmas hat attended the world premiere of The Harry Hill Movie in London last night (December 19).
Smith, who plays Hill's love interest in the movie, arrived in a sheer red lace dress. She was joined by co-stars Hill, Julie Walters, and the hamster - voiced in the film by Johnny Vegas - on the red carpet in Leicester Square.
Speaking about her role as Shell Girl, the 32-year-old actress told reporters yesterday evening: "It took about four hours in make-up every day, so I'd get picked up at 3am and sit in make-up having all these prosthetic shells put all over my face.
"And I had to wear a fat suit all day, which was mental!
"We had these T-shirts on underneath that had iced water pumped through them because we got so hot. So today I'm like, 'Ah! It's nice and chilly!

Supply teacher Mr Peterson (David Tennant) has to juggle a pregnant wife and a class of unruly children (plus a baby) on a road trip to the National 'Song for Christmas' Competition in Wales. Not helped but hindered by bumbling classroom assistant Mr Poppy (Marc Wootton), it's a fraught journey that will see them whitewater rafting and scaling misty peaks... with a donkey.

BBC Three has reportedly axed controversial comedy Way To Go.
The sitcom - from veteran Us comedy writer Bob Kushell - starred The Inbetweeners actor Blake Harrison as Scott, who sets up an assisted suicide business.
The series, which also starred Ben Heathcote and Marc Wootton, will not return for a second series, according to the British Comedy Guide.
Six 30-minute episodes of Way To Go aired in early 2013, with the show premiere attracting a series peak of 420,000 viewers on January 17.
Kushell (3rd Rock from the Sun, Suburgatory) previously told Digital Spy that Way To Go was not intended to be controversial.
"The subject matter is really the background of what the show is about," he claimed. "The scripts deal with it in a very delicate way."

In the images, Harry Hill can be seen driving a mobility scooter alongside his Nan, played by the veteran British actress.
The film follows the TV Burp comic as he embarks on a road trip to Blackpool with his hard-drinking grandmother, when he discovers that his hamster only has one week to live.
Hill previously said of his movie: "I'm thrilled at last to be able to tell the world the true story of my hamster's struggle on the big screen and even more excited to be working with some of the comedy greats of the British film industry."
Sheridan Smith is set to appear as "an undersea shell person" who steals Hill's heart, and Matt Lucas portrays Hill's estranged Alsatian-raised twin brother Otto.

I missed Debbie Isitt's 2009 Nativity!, a partly improvised seasonal comedy about kids from various schools in the Midlands competing to win a prize for the best Nativity play. It must have been better than this inept sequel, in which some of the same performers (including Marc Wootton as a dimwitted, childlike classroom assistant) bring choirs from their schools to a Welsh castle to take part in a TV competition for the best Christmas song. The two principal teachers are now played by David Tennant in the dual role of twins, one an ambitious prig, the other a likable supply teacher. He gets "nul point" in both roles. The only laughs come from the film's title and Jessica Hynes as a ridiculously pretentious TV hostess. Joe Utichi contributes to Deadline’s UK coverage. Anger Management scribe Bob Kushell has crossed the Atlantic to the UK for a new BBC Three sitcom set around the world of assisted suicide. Known for taking more risks than conservative stablemates BBC One and Two, the digital channel aimed at the 16-34 year-old demo has ordered a six-episode season of the 30-minute show Way To Go, about “three ordinary guys who find themselves forced by an extraordinary set of circumstances into setting up an assisted-suicide business”. Veteran comedy writer Kushell, whose writing credits Stateside include The Simpsons and Third Rock from the Sun, says he’s thrilled to follow in the footsteps of British comic giants like Monty Python, Black Adder and Fawlty Towers. “There has been no bigger thrill in my life than to have a show on the BBC.” The Inbetweeners‘ Blake Harrison will star alongside Ben Heathcote and Marc Wootton.

We had a blast speaking to Marc Wootton on the Nativity 2 red carpet, and it was just as fun meeting him for a second time to delve further into the character of Mr Poppy – the frustrating but lovable man-child who has somehow managed to secure the role of teaching assistant in with the class from St Bernadette’s. We asked Marc what it was about his comic creation that infuriated adults so much, but which makes the children both on and off screen view him a hero. Mr Poppy returns to the screens in Nativity 2 this Friday.

There’s a lot of negativity surrounding Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger, the sequel to 2009’s Nativity, and perhaps that’s understandable. The class from St Bernadette’s are back, and so is their classroom assistant Mr Poppy (Marc Wootton) – an overgrown man-child of a character who infuriates audiences with almost every breath. His irresponsibility knows no bounds.
He steals children away without permission to take them on a school trip, he encourages them to bring their baby brothers and sisters along for the journey, he has them perilously abseiling down the side of 200ft cliffs (really!), and just generally seems to put having fun above the health and safety of the children he’s tasked with looking after.
To say his position of responsibility stretches credibility is an understatement, but this isn’t a social-realist portrayal of a primary school classroom, it’s a magical Christmas jaunt,...

Goofy followup to 2009's Nativity!, which sees David Tennant as a supply teacher in a school trying to win a Christmas song competition
Debbie Isitt's followup to her popular Christmas comedy Nativity! from 2009 is silly, goofy and pretty groanworthy. But it is unpretentious and is, after all, aimed at very young children. David Tennant plays Mr Peterson, the nice new supply teacher at a chaotic school whose kids are keen to enter the Song for Christmas competition, encouraged by their crazy teaching assistant, Mr Poppy (Marc Wootton). But they're up against some nasty poshies from the nearby independent school, led by uptight Mr Shakespeare (Jason Watkins). The pupils are given loads of kids-say-the-funniest-things dialogue, there's the traditional "audition montage" and the whole thing is like a particularly unsubtle panto. Jessica Hynes has a nice cameo as the fading pop star Angel Matthews, who presides over the X Factor-style final.

The Inbetweeners star Blake Harrison is to star in new BBC Three sitcom Way to Go. The six-part series is described as a "black comedy" about three men who set up an assisted-suicide business. Harrison will play Scott, who devises the desperate scheme when his terminally ill neighbour asks for his help to die and his brother Joey (Ben Heathcote) is in desperate need of cash to pay off his gambling debts. Marc Wootton (Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger) will also star as Scott and Joey's friend Cozzo, with Laura Aikman (Casualty), Sinéad Matthews (Ideal) and Hannah Job (Coming of Age) rounding out the regular cast. Zai Bennett, controller of BBC Three, said: "Bob Kushell's scripts are in turn dark, poignant, absurd, moving and brilliant. But mostly they are very, very funny. I'm thrilled that (more)...

After the box office failure of Flushed Away, I was worried Aardman Animations may have been dead. With the fire that consumed thirty years of their history and the realization mainstream Americans simply don’t ‘get’ thew British-tinged dry humor, the Academy Award for Wallace & Gromit didn’t seem to prove enough. But Dreamworks’ loss became Sony’s gain as the studios worked out a three-year deal to keep on creating. And although the stop-motion has taken a backseat for computer graphics—don’t worry, their next one is good ol’ Plasticine—the trademark sensibility remains. Unafraid to tell an intelligent story with biting humor and an absurdist bent, I hoped their latest foray into the holiday genre with Arthur Christmas would rise above my basement-level anticipation and shine where so many animated films have recently fallen pray to easy jokes and cookie-cutter plot progression. And while it does this in spades,...

At BBC Three, we commissioned pretty dark stuff like Nighty Night, Monkey Dust, Shirley Ghostman... at Sky I don't think that's going to work. “La La Land” is eff you see kay eye enn jee funny. End of. Full stop. Well it is to me anyway. It’s evidently not to some people as there’s been a bit of bad press surrounding it, but I think the positive praise outweighs the negative naysayers. Which it should, as I can’t see how anyone couldn’t find this funny. “La La Land” follows three eccentric Brits – Jason Statham wannabe Gary Garner, showbiz psychic Shirley Ghostman and hapless documentary filmmaker Brendan Allan – as they traipse across Hollywood trying to make it big. Each character is played by the same man – Marc Wootton – and is thrust into situations with real people, à la “Borat”. Inevitable comparisons will be made with Sacha Baron Cohen and his creations, but I think there’s an originality to Wootton’s show which marks it out from the rest, as not only are the characters flawless,...

As Shirley Ghostman might say, I feel your pain, I feel your shame, but you're not to blame. Despite the fact that San Diego Comic-Con isn't for several months, the always frustrating hotel reservation process began yesterday, which lit up Twitter with horror stories of reservations gone horribly awry and guests being given none of their twelve top choices--a new feature this year--and instead being placed miles away from the convention center. (Personally, after several years of frustrating experiences that left me nearly ripping out my hair, I ended up landing my first choice this year and didn't have as much of a madness-inducing experience as several people I know.) While it's not a television-related topic per se, I am wondering who at this point is still going to Comic-Con 2010, who has thrown in the towel, and who is still on the fence. Plus, if you are going, where did...

In addition to roles on such well-regarded British comedies as Gavin & Stacey and Julia Davis' Nighty Night and such series as The Eleven O'Clock Show and My New Best Friend, Marc Wootton truly made his mark on the British comedy scene with the eight-episode High Spirits with Shirley Ghostman, a Borat-like comedy confection in which Wootton performed a variety of eccentric characters--most notably egocentric psychic Shirley Ghostman-- while interacting with real people. Wootton is set to migrate the comedic style of High Spirits along with its central character Shirley to the West Coast of America with his new series, La La Land, which debuts tonight on Showtime. The series finds Wootton again performing an array of characters--in this case, outrageously awful psychic medium Shirley, desperate documentary filmmaker Brendan, and naive cabbie/wannabe actor Gary--as they attempt to find fame and fortune in Los Angeles, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

Wondering what to watch tonight? Chuck, of course, but there's also three premieres tonight that you need to be aware of and should definitely tune in for... and none of them actually conflict with NBC's Chuck. (Always a perk.) At 9 pm Et/Pt, it's the Us premiere of Iain Morris and Damon Beesley's British comedy The Inbetweeners on BBC America. But this isn't a comedy of social conventions but rather a raucous and touching British sitcom that's almost the anti-Skins in a way. Laugh and cringe in equal measure as four sex-starved social outcasts attempt to fit in, find love, and lose it, not always in that order. (You can read my review of the first three episodes of The Inbetweeners here and my review of the first two seasons here.)
