Freeform Developing Late-Night Show With Comedian Iliza Shlesinger (Exclusive)

23 September 2016 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Freeform is stepping into the late-night arena.

The cabler is developing a late-night series with comedian Iliza Shlesinger, Variety has learned exclusively.

The late-night show will feature Shlesinger’s unique voice that reflects the audience and “what’s happening in the moment” with a fresh comedic spin. Shlesinger says the series will set itself apart from other shows in the genre because her voice has a feminine side to it, but she’s not afraid to be unabashed in her opinions.

“It has been my goal since I was a kid,” Shlesinger tells Variety of hosting a late-night show. “I used to take a recorder around and interview my parents and do impressions of my classmates as guests on my show. I started working on this goal in Hollywood years ago. I think comedy and the perception of women in comedy has evolved to a place where this show can finally be a reality on my own »

“Hell or High Water” is a furious yet mellow American masterpiece

8 August 2016 8:25 AM, PDT | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

As you all know by now, I love being surprised by a movie I had absolutely no expectations for going into. Last week, I saw something that just blew me away. This week, I can turn you all on to it, as it’s opening. The flick is called Hell or High Water and is just fantastic. Not only do I think it’s better than Sicario, which was a top notch outing last year and also written by scribe Taylor Sheridan, but I’d go so far as to say I prefer it to No Country for Old Man, which is a cinematic cousin of sorts. Equally mellow and raging at the state of the world, this is more than just a crime drama. It’s a character study about the modern cowboy, and much more. I out and out loved it, as you’ll see below. The film »

Watch: One More 'David and Goliath' Trailer for 'Hell or High Water'

18 July 2016 6:24 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"Y'all been here for a while? Long enough to watch a bank getting robbed that has been robbing me for 30 years..." CBS Films has unveiled one more official trailer for David Mackenzie's modern western Hell or High Water, from the writer of Sicario and the director of Starred Up. Chris Pine and Ben Foster star as brothers who decide to rob a couple of banks in small towns in Texas. Close to retirement, the Texas Ranger who decides to hunt them down is Marcus, played by Jeff Bridges. The cast includes Katy Mixon, Dale Dickey, Kevin Rankin, Marin Ireland and Gil Birmingham. This is a helluva film and I highly recommend catching it in theaters. See it because Jeff Bridges is badass in it, see it because the script is outstanding, see it because David Mackenzie is a talented director. There's plenty of good reasons to see it. Here's »

"Well if that ain't Texan, then I don't know what is..." CBS Films has released another great trailer for the modern western Hell or High Water, directed by David Mackenzie, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this summer. Broadcast Networks Re-Commit to Comedy in Hopes of Finding Next Big Hit

8 June 2016 9:30 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

With a dozen network comedies cancelled this past season, it’s no secret that broadcast is struggling to find a big hit. But take one quick glance at the fall schedule, and this year’s secret is out: comedy is on trend.

While the past season delivered respectable performers in CBS’ “Life in Pieces” and NBC’s “Superstore,” plus a critical darling in The CW’s “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” no broadcast comedy has been a true smash since ABC’s “Modern Family” debuted in 2009.

And yet the networks are eager to find the next big thing as they recommit to the genre in a major way: ABC has slotted 10 half-hours on its fall schedule, CBS will return to four hours of sitcoms a week after going all drama on Mondays last season, NBC is bringing comedy back to Thursday, Fox continues taking big swings and The CW has added a third »

Hayley Atwell lost a job and gained another in one fell swoop. The actress's "Agent Carter" was canceled by ABC, but now she's headlining a new legal drama titled "Conviction."

It's just one of a large crop of new series ordered by the network, which cleared out its schedule in canceling "Agent Carter," "Castle," "The Family," "The Muppets," and "Nashville." The new shows continue ABC's brand mixing sexy, serialized dramas with family comedies.

And for the first time in a few years, Thursday will not be entirely ruled by Shonda Rhimes' shows. Due to Kerry Washington's pregnancy, "Scandal" is being held until midseason. In its place, talk show drama "Notorious" will try to continue the #Tgit magic.

Here are the trailers for ABC's new series:
