In 2006 he won the National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP) first place prize in the newly established Jose Marti Publishing
Awards, in the category of Outstanding Editorial Column for a commentary published in the highly popular "Viernes" arts and entertainment section of Miami's "El Nuevo Herald." The column, in Spanish, is titled "Los colores en Hollywood" ("The Colors in Hollywood") and focuses on specific motion pictures that depict Hispanics in a clichéd and stereotypical manner that completely disregards the racial and cultural diversity that exists within the Hispanic population in the United States.
