Around The World In Eighty Films

  • MoreHorror

While Halloween was fast approaching, I was getting incredibly restless with which Horror film or rather films I’d spend the day watching. I mean, do I play safe and watch something like ‘Shaun of the Dead’ or even ‘Alien’ that I must admit, I both love and have seen a million, trillion times each. Or shall I search for a movie that I haven’t seen before. It’s a completely daft question to get myself worked up over; but if you’re such a film buff and Horror fanatic as I am, you should easily understand.

That’s when a little challenge was thrown my way. Why not travel around the world – not in a physical sense, but in the comfort of my home – and find a Horror film I haven’t seen from as many countries as possible. It’s easy enough to do,

Cockneys vs. Zombies Movie Review
Title: Cockneys vs. Zombies Director: Matthias Hoene Starring: Harry Treadaway, Michelle Ryan, Alan Ford, Rasmus Hardiker, Honor Blackman, Georgia King A satisfying, enormously likable genre cocktail, “Cockneys vs. Zombies” not only delivers upon its title promise, but does so with wit and fleet-of-foot aplomb. Director Matthias Hoene, working from a screenplay by James Moran and Lucas Roche, delivers an entertaining romp that successfully purées its many disparate antecedents, imparting flecks of cheeky homage while also standing steady, firm and fine on its own two feet. The story centers around brothers Andy and Terry McGuire (Harry Treadaway and Rasmus Hardiker, respectively), who, along with sis Katy (Michelle Ryan), seize upon a [ Read More ]

Review: Cockneys vs. Zombies

  • DailyDead
With a name like Cockneys vs. Zombies, you can pretty much guess what you’re in for while watching the latest UK zombie import from director Matthias Hoene. Featuring a handful of recognizable British actors (Alan Ford Ftw!), Cockneys vs. Zombies really doesn’t offer much ingenuity in the zombie subgenre, but it’s a rather enjoyable movie if you’re looking for foul-mouthed, gun-toting octogenarians battling hordes of the undead with a bit of a caper twist thrown in for good measure.

Cockneys vs. Zombies follows gangster brothers Andy (Harry Treadaway) and Terry (Rasmus Hardiker) who are planning a heist in order to stop the retirement home their grandfather lives in from closing down. Of course, nothing goes as planned when a zombie outbreak occurs suddenly, forcing Andy and Terry to retreat and figure out a way to save their grandpa and his friends trapped inside their facility who

Cockneys Vs Zombies Review

Since Shaun of the Dead, for some reason I get extremely giddy whenever I hear the UK has produced another lovable zombie flick. Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg won me over in a matter of seconds with their witty British sensibilities and copious amounts of zombie munching gore, and I guess I’m looking for that next big score to follow suit.

Cockneys vs Zombies unfortunately isn’t that next game changer, but it isn’t a pass over by any means either. In fact, I would say Matthias Hoene is nipping at the heels of Edgar Wright, but ends up making a film just one small tier below. I went in looking for some unique zombie fun, and that’s exactly what I got. Nothing really furthered the genre or made it special, but I still had a blast watching our East End friends fight their way through hordes of shambling zombies.

20 Best Horror Films of 2012

It’s no big secret I love horror films, but 2012 hasn’t been a great year. In my top ten, three films carry over from 2011, two won’t be released until 2013, two are animated and another isn’t much of a horror film. With that said, 2012 gave us Berberian Sound Studio and Cabin In The Woods, and for that, I am forever grateful. Here is a list of the 21 horror films from 2012 I liked best.

****

#1: Berberian Sound Studio

Directed by Peter Strickland

Written by Peter Strickland

UK, 2012

Berberian Sound Studio reminds us of the power of sound over the visual image, and can surely join the ranks of Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation and Brian DePalma’s Blow Out as an absorbing appreciation of sound design. But both thematically and visually, Berberian is more of a descendant of the school of David Lynch and Roman Polanski. As things get increasingly,

Tadff 2012: ‘Cockneys vs. Zombies’ a raucous and entertaining zombie comedy

Cockneys vs. Zombies

Directed by Matthias Hoene

Written by James Moran and Lucas Roche

UK, 2012

As with something like Snakes on a Plane, Cockneys vs. Zombies derives much of its promise and purpose from the title. How you enjoy the film is contingent on how well it manifests said title, so, by that very notion, Matthias Hoene’s Cockneys vs. Zombies is really quite enjoyable. With a good cast of characters, some funny sequences, and not-so-subtle political commentary, Cockneys vs. Zombies is a raucous and entertaining zombie comedy.

The film is set in London’s East End, obviously, where a zombie outbreak threatens to take over the entire city. Meanwhile, and unbeknownst to them, a team of well meaning bank robbers led by brothers Andy and Terry (Harry Treadaway and Rasmus Hardiker), with the help of their cousin Katy (Michelle Ryan), steel-plated psychopath Mental Mickey (Ashley Thomas), and probable-virgin Tuppence

New Poster & Olympics TV Spot for Cockneys vs. Zombies – The 10m Lurch

  • HeyUGuys
After catching the first red-band trailer for horror comedy Cockneys vs. Zombies last week, we’ve got a brand new poster and an Olympics-themed TV spot to share, ahead of the film’s release at the end of the month.

In true horror comedy spirit, the latest event entering the Games sees an elderly Londoner going head-to-head against a blood-covered zombie in the 10m lurch.

“A bunch of east-easters fight their way out of a zombie infested London, lead by an unlikely gang of amateur banks robbers and foul-mouthed plucky pensioners. Starring Michelle Ryan, Honor Blackman and Harry Treadaway. The undead are brown bread.”

Michelle Ryan, Honor Blackman, Georgia King, Harry Treadaway, and Alan Ford lead the cast, with Matthias Hoene making his feature directorial debut from a script co-written by James Moran (Spooks, the upcoming Tower Block) and editor Lucas Roche (Dead Man’s Shoes), who makes his screenwriting debut.

Gory and Hilarious Red Band Trailer for Cockneys Vs. Zombies

  • ScifiMafia
As I watched the credits roll on the still epic Shaun of the Dead, I had always hoped for a sequel, or possibly another Brit-Zom-Com that kept that same spirit while carrying it in a different way. Thanks to the writing prowess of James Moran and Lucas Roche, along with the direction of Matthias Hoene, Cockneys Vs. Zombies may just fit the bill.

The film stars Michelle Ryan, Rasmus Hardiker and Harry Treadaway as cousins who attempt to rob a bank so that they can save their old granddad (Alan Ford) from having to leave his retirement home in the Eastend. In the midst of the heist, a zombie epidemic reaches apocalyptic proportions and the trio have to fight for survival alongside elderly pensioners.

Check out the (very not safe for work) red band trailer and poster for the film below!

New Teaser Images From Cockneys Vs Zombies

The images below are from the upcoming British high concept film, Cockneys Vs Zombies, which debutant director Matthias Hoene recently finished shooting. The screenplay was co-written by James Moran (Severance) and Lucas Roche, and there are several recognisable faces comprising the main cast, including Harry Treadaway (Fish Tank), Michelle ‘You Ain’t My Muvva’ Ryan (Cleanskin), Honor Blackman (Goldfinger) and Alan Ford (Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels).

The narrative, or at least the aspect of the film that most resembles a narrative, follows two brothers, Andy (Treadaway) and Terry MacGuire (Rasmus Hardiker), as they attempt a bank robbery in order to help pay for their Grandpa’s (Ford) care home to stay open. However, a zombie infestation is simultaneously sweeping across the capital, turning all in its path into deranged flesh-seeking demons. So, to re-cap, it’s a heist movie with some zombies, and Zoe from Eastenders.
