Night at the Museum: The Secret of the Tomb's stars gathered at the N.Y.C. premiere on Dec. 11 to celebrate the family flick's release - but they remembered their late costar Robin Williams, too. Williams reprised his role of President Theodore Roosevelt in the threequel, one of his last completed projects before committing suicide in August. While the cast was sad Williams couldn't be with them to introduce the movie, they celebrated his life and performance at the premiere. Title: Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb Director: Shawn Levy Starring: Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, Ricky Gervais, Rebel Wilson, Ben Kingsley, Skyler Gisondo and Dan Stevens People often easily embrace the natural and intriguing relationships in their lives, and can start taking advantage of the belief that their connections will never be affected by anything in the world around them. It’s not until their beliefs and ideals change, due to their natural maturing and reactions to challenges around them, that they are finally forced to contend with the knowledge that everyone has to let go of those they love at some point. ‘Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb’ is a modest, fun excursion

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb

Written by David Guion and Michael Handelman

Directed by Shawn Levy

USA/UK, 2014

Getting the band back together for one final gig is almost never a good idea.  In the case of Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, however, there’s enough ingenuity and fun to justify the encore.  Director Shawn Levy adds a few clever wrinkles and plenty of familiar callbacks as he sends his family franchise out with pomp and poignancy.  The untimely death of Robin Williams also adds resonance to the film’s melancholy message that letting go is a necessary, painful fact of life.

It’s easy for critics to dismiss films like Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (Sott).  When you’re three films into a franchise that’s fueled by a wafer-thin premise, you can feel bored and dissatisfied before the movie even begins. »

Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb – The Review

18 December 2014 11:13 PM, PST | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

In opposition to TV’s “Schoolhouse Rock” classic tune, for movies three is not always the magic number. It’s true for most film franchises especially comedies (with National Lampoon’S Christmas Vacation being the exceptional exception). Many moviegoers still get queasy thinking about last year’s The Hangover Part III. Well, how about a more family friendly comedy series? In 2006 Ben Stiller decided to expand his fan base by starring in the surprise box-office smash, Night At The Museum, an all ages PG slapstick farce. Naturally he followed it up three years later with Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian, which did enough business to warrant another entry….five years later?! Really, it took that long for all the stars to align? Now these flicks are special effects heavy and during  the post production two of its stars, well, made sure they weren’t available for a fourth installment. »

Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb Review

17 December 2014 8:45 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Eight years is a long time in the life of a child. While critics are lining up to award Richard Linklater for exploring such an idea, a much larger viewing audience unfamiliar with Boyhood may experience a similar feeling of time passing them by while watching Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. Advertising itself as the finale of the soon-to-be billion dollar grossing Night at the Museum trilogy, Secret of the Tomb lays it on thick with pretences of finality and closure. In truth, the film doesn’t bring the journey to a stop, and instead simply hits the blinker on a lucrative franchise vehicle that’s always been operating in cruise control.

Ben Stiller once again straps on nightshift blues and a flashlight as security guard Larry Daley, who spends his evenings corralling the magically sentient exhibits of the Natural History Museum. Over the course of his adventures, »

Night at the Museum Secret of the Tomb review: Franchise loses sparkle

16 December 2014 7:30 AM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Directors: Shawn Levy; Screenwriters: David Guion, Michael Handelman; Starring: Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Robin Williams, Rebel Wilson, Dan Stevens, Ben Kingsley, Mickey Rooney, Dick Van Dyke, Steve Coogan, Ricky Gervais; Running time: 98 mins; Certificate: PG

Thanks to its nifty blend of high-concept and wide-appeal comedy, the Night at the Museum series has established itself as dependable family entertainment. Third time around the magic is wearing thin, however, with the bulk of the action relocating to London as Ben Stiller's security guard Larry attempts to revive the magical tablet that brings exhibits to life.

Everything about this sequel screams paycheque as the returning faces (among them Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan and Ricky Gervais) breeze through on cruise control leaving the heavy lifting to the visual effects team. The newcomers launch into it with gusto, but Dan Stevens's preening Lancelot is little more than a one-note gag and »

Ben Stiller, ‘Night at the Museum’ Cast Honor Robin Williams at Premiere

12 December 2014 9:58 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

At the world premiere of 20th Century Fox’s film “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb” held at New York’s Ziegfeld Theatre on Thursday, the cast honored the life of the late Robin Williams, who makes his final screen performance in director Shawn Levy’s third installment of the popular franchise. Williams’ widow, Susan Schneider, attended the event.

Williams died on Aug. 11 at his home in Tiburon, Calif. He was 63.

“I will never forget his generosity,” Ben Stiller told Variety. “I got to work with him a few times over the years, and he was the kindest person.”

Co-star Ricky Gervais remembers the Oscar winner mostly as a caring friend.

“We quickly became mates. He was so approachable and just a lovely bloke,” Gervais shared. “He made you feel good however he was feeling. I will always remember the time I was doing the Bob Woodruff benefit »

Robin Williams's Widow Attends Night at the Museum Premiere as the Cast Pays Tribute

12 December 2014 8:40 AM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

It was one of the late Robin Williams's last completed films, and friends and castmates took time to remember him fondly at Thursday's New York premiere of Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. The beloved actor's wife, Susan Schneider, attended the event looking composed and at ease. She made an appearance at the afterparty at the American Museum of Natural History, taking the time to mingle and connect with filmmakers and her late husband's costars. There were a lot of memories and tributes shared, but not a lot of melancholy. The film's star, Ben Stiller, whose actress wife Christine Taylor accompanied him, »

Film Review: ‘Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb’

12 December 2014 3:13 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The past may be immortal, but not so the reanimating magic that turns New York’s American Museum of Natural History into a dusk-to-dawn happy hour for dinosaurs and Neanderthals, explorers and conquerors, and a capuchin monkey with an overactive bladder. Such is the dilemma this motley crew (once more under the leadership of Ben Stiller’s harried night watchman) faces in “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb,” a most enjoyable capper to director Shawn Levy and producer Chris Columbus’ cheerfully silly and sneakily smart family-entertainment juggernaut. A fond farewell, to the series and to two of its stars — Mickey Rooney and Robin Williams — “Tomb” offers little in the way of secrets of surprises, but should add much holiday cheer to Fox’s box-office coffers.

The “Night” movies haven’t much endeared themselves to highbrow critics — among those who’ve even bothered to write about them — but it »
