First Argo Image Arrives Ben Affleck Goes Bearded

28 December 2011 4:31 PM, PST | icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news »

With the New Year almost upon us and the news streams largely quiet, this is the one of the few annual times the studios choose to bombard us with preview pictures from their upcoming output. Warners has shoved a raft of new pictures online, with one of particular interest - the first official image from Ben Affleck's Argo.

Affleck passed on the chance to make the new Superman for this one, an intriguing ripped-from-real-life tale of six American hostages and the audacious plan to evacuate them safely from Iran.

Adapted from Joshuah Berman's article about the incident by writer Chris Terrio Argo follows CIA 'exfiltration' specialist Tony Mendez (Affleck) in November 1974 as he's informed of the situation. You see, militants have stormed the Us embassy and taken 52 Americans hostage. Six have escaped and are finding refuge with the Canadian ambassador, but they need to leave the country pronto. So »

First Look: Ben Affleck in Odd Real-Life Hostage Thriller ‘Argo’

26 December 2011 3:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Germain's prepping his '10 most anticipated movies for 2012' list right now and I'll probably put one together as well just as soon as I get back from Texas. One movie I'm pretty sure will be on his list and I know would be on mine is Argo, the third film directed by Ben Affleck. As we've mentioned a few times in the past while covering the casting for the film, this movie is based on a real situation in which a handful of CIA operatives posed as key members of a movie crew in order to extract diplomats who had been taken hostage in 1979 Tehran. They're not posing as just any film crew, but as guys scouting locations for a sci-fi film called, naturally, Argo. Above, that's part of the first official image of Affleck as one of the primary members of that crew; see the whole thing below. »

Ben Affleck Goes Back To The 70s In First Official Image From His Hostage Drama ‘Argo’

26 December 2011 7:41 AM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Coming off his excellent but underseen Gone Baby Gone and the engaging but slightly overpraised The Town, Ben Affleck is getting ready to release his third film next fall. Argo, based on a real-life Iran hostage event, sees Affleck assembling a fantastic cast that includes himself, Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Zeljko Ivanek, Richard Kind, Scoot McNairy, Chris Messina, Michael Parks, Kerry Bishe and Kyle Chandler.

Warner Bros. has provided the first official image from the film today, which features a very 70s-looking Affleck dissecting some government documents, likely before he goes on the mission. The Town‘s heist scenes were the most thrilling of that film, so I’m intrigued to see if Affleck can provide the same tension here. Also starring Rory Cochrane, Christopher Denham, Tate Donovan, Clea DuVall, Victor Garber and Taylor Schilling, one can click the image below for higher resolution.

‘American History X’ Helmer Tony Kaye Goes From ‘Detachment’ to ‘Attachment’

13 December 2011 5:37 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

British director Tony Kaye has had relatively steady, non-mainstream work since famously trying to yank his name off of the powerful, Edward Norton-starring American History X in 1998. After a dispute with the studio, the star recut the film (either to give himself more screentime or to mold the film into more of a commercial feature), and Kaye tried to remove his name from the credits and replace it with the pseudonym ”Humpty-Dumpty.” But, according to unnamed sources, Mr. Dumpty objected, since he himself was trying to remove his name from every Rob Schneider movie ever made.

Now, Variety says that Kaye is circling Attachment, an indie thriller written by Christopher Denham that “centers on a married woman’s one night stand with a student coming back to haunt her when the lover begins to date her daughter and stalk her family.” It’s reported ed that the film will »

American History X Director to Direct new Thriller Attachment

13 December 2011 3:00 PM, PST | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

American History X director Tony Kaye could end up directing a new indie thriller  for W2 Media called Attachment.

The script for the film was written Christopher Denham, and the story "centers on a married woman's one night stand with a student coming back to haunt her when the lover begins to date her daughter and stalk her family." Don't you hate it when that kind of crap goes down!? I'll just say the married woman should have known better.

I love the film American History X, I think its one of the most powerful films ever made. Unfortunately I haven't seen any of Kayes other films. Such as Detachment with Adrien Brody, a crime drama called Black Water Transit with Laurence Fishburne. I still trust that Kaye is a solid director even though I haven't seen these other films. Maybe this new film will get some better exposure.

Tony Kaye ("American History X," "Black Water Transit") is in talks to direct the indie thriller "Attachment" at W2 Media says Variety.

Christopher Denham penned the story which centers on a married woman's one night stand with a student coming back to haunt her when the lover begins to date her daughter and stalk her family.

Shooting aims to kick off in the Spring. Kaye's latest film, the Adrien Brody-led "Detachment", will be released by Tribeca Films early next year. »

Tony Kaye To Direct Thriller 'Attachment'

13 December 2011 7:46 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

We've said it before, but the post-"American History X" career of director Tony Kaye has been bumpy at best. Not counting the turmoil he went through on the Edward Norton movie, his next films were either ignored ("Lake Of Fire"), stuck in legal limbo ("Black Water Transit") or crucified by critics (his recent high school drama "Detachment"). So who knows what might befall his effort. Kaye is now set to take on "Attachment," a thriller penned by actor Christopher Denham (who wrote and directed the Pov horror flick "Home Movie"). We have to say, the premise sounds pretty rote if not somewhat teen soapy. The story will center on a married woman who has a one night stand with a student, but things get out of hand when he returns, dates her daughter and begins stalking her. We've seen variations on this kind of thing plenty of times before »

Coverage of this year's Screamfest La Film Festival continues with Dread Central's event report for Thursday, October 20th, and Friday, October 21st, when we hit the carpet to bring you more photos and caught the premieres of Jack Heller’s feature film Enter Nowhere (Night #7) and of Ryan Schifrin’s No Rest for the Wicked, The Little Mermaid, Infected, and more. (Night #8).

(Editor's Note: In case you're wondering what happened to Night #6, the filmmakers of Livid, the major premiere of that evening, were not in attendance so we opted to give SeanD. a night off of coverage as well. Considering that he's practically been living at the Manns Chinese 6 during Screamfest La's 2011 run, we'd say he certainly deserved it!)

Those walking the black carpet on the 20th and in attendance for the seventh evening of the fest included Enter Nowhere director Heller, writers Shawn Christensen and Jason Dolan, producers Dallas Sonnier and Robert Crippen, »

Restive | Review - Austin Film Festival 2011

Director: Jeremiah Jones Writer: Jeremiah Jones Starring: Christopher Denham, Connor Hill, Michael Mosley, Marianna Palka, Ivan Sandomire To be perfectly honest, I might have to watch Restive a few more times before I can adequately comprehend what the heck is going on. But here I am, shortly after my first viewing of the film, attempting to hobble together a coherent review about a film that was so beautifully incoherent to me. I will start with the puzzle pieces that I do understand. Jeva (Marianna Palka) is stuck in a menacingly terrifying relationship with Lott (Christopher Denham). Together, they have a young son, Hopper (Connor Hill)...and daughter too? Lott has reason to think Jeva has betrayed him. Soon, Jeva and Hopper find themselves running through the woods being chased by two of Lott's hoodlum buddies, Braker (Michael Mosley) and Roo (Ivan Sandomire). Greatest Horror Movies Ever Made: Part 1 – Found Footage

1 October 2011 2:01 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Today is October 1st and like every year I spend the majority of the month watching as many horror movies as I possibly can. So I decided to take it upon myself to list off the greatest horror movies ever made. I felt the need to break up the list into several categories. You see, usually when people ask me for recommendations of what horror films they should see, they still have some idea of what sub genre they are interested in watching. So as appose to having one big jumbled list, I’ve broken it down to help with those looking for recommendations in a specific area. Please Note: by the end of the month, the last entry in this series will include a list of what I think are without a doubt, the 31 greatest horror movies ever made. For now, I present to you my list of the »

Ben Affleck’s ‘Argo’ Adds Michael Parks, Clea DuVall, Richard Kind; Official Synopsis Revealed

2 September 2011 10:06 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Warner Bros has sent out the obligatory press release to announce the commencement of filming on Ben Affleck's third film as director, Argo. We've known most of the cast for a while: Affleck, Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, and John Goodman, with more recent additions Kyle Chandler, Tate Donovan, Rory Cochrane and Taylor Schilling. Now we've got an official synopsis for the film, which adapts the true story of a CIA team that posed as a film crew in order to extract diplomats from Tehran in 1979. But perhaps of more interest to some who already know the story is the confirmation of cast additions that include the great Michael Parks (above), as well as Clea Duvall and Richard Kind. I can't really do better than the press release, which goes like this: Based on true events, "Argo" chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the »

Ben Affleck Begins Dangerous Middle East Adventure

2 September 2011 6:22 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Ben Affleck has begun commanding a dangerous mission deep into the heart of an extremely hostile enemy. Luckily, he'll get to boss the bad guys around, too.

Principal photography on the star's third directorial effort, "Argo," began on Thursday, with Warner Bros. sending out a press release detailing both the star-studded behind-the-scenes team (see: Clooney, George, for example) and the first official synopsis of the based-on-a-true-story film.

In a quick summary of the synopsis, the film is about six Us hostages that have escaped the grasp of their Iranian hostage takers during the famous 1979 crisis. They make their way to the home of a Canadian ambassador, but require an extreme plan to make it out of the country. Enter a preposterous, movie production scheme and some guts of steel, and you have one of the wildest stories in recent covert history (or, so we know).

In addition to directing, Affleck will star in the film, »

Chris Messina, Michael Parks, Richard Kind and More Complete Ben Affleck’s ‘Argo’ Cast as Production Begins

1 September 2011 1:10 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

With production beginning today on Ben Affleck‘s hostage thriller Argo, Warner Bros. lets us know of a few new players added to the cast. We’ve already got Affleck starring alongside Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Kerry Bishé, Kyle Chandler, Rory Cochrane, Christopher Denham, Tate Donovan, Clea DuVall, Victor Garber, Zeljko Ivanek, Scoot McNairy and Taylor Schilling. Three names stood out for me as new additions though in the press release.

Richard Kind (A Serious Man), Chris Messina (Away We Go) and Michael Parks (who is in Kevin Smith‘s Red State, on VOD today), round out the rest of the major actors. There is no word on what specific roles they play, but these are three of my favorite character actors and it is nice to see Affleck make these additions. After mostly enjoying The Town and loving Gone Baby Gone, I’m looking forward to this one. »
