‘The Disaster Artist’ Mined Podcast ‘How Did This Get Made’ for Inspiration

‘The Disaster Artist’ Mined Podcast ‘How Did This Get Made’ for Inspiration
James Franco’s “The Disaster Artist” has been racking up strong box office and rapturous reviews since its limited release Dec. 1 (it went wide Dec. 8), but few know that the popular Earwolf podcast “How Did This Get Made?,” hosted by Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael and Jason Mantzoukas, played a seminal role in getting the film to the big screen.

The latest podcast revisits “Artist’s” origin story, Tommy Wiseau’s “The Room,” which many have named as the worst movie ever made, but which took off as a cult hit in L.A. and spread globally over the early 2000s. James Franco, Dave Franco, Seth Rogen, Ari Graynor, writers Michael H. Webber and Scott Neustadter, “The Room’s” Greg Sestero, and Wiseau visit the “Hdtgm” studio, and the episode also includes the 2011 “Hdtgm” episode (#23) on “The Room” with Steve Heisler from The Av Club and “Room” multihyphenate Sestero (earwolf.com/show/how-did-this-get-made).

Interview, Audio: Veteran Screenwriters of ‘The Disaster Artist’

Chicago – The screenwriting team of Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber have had many adventures plying their trade, ever since their breakthrough “500 Days of Summer” in 2009. Their latest assignment was adapting “The Disaster Artist” for director and lead actor James Franco.

The Disaster Artist is a funny and intuitive profile of Tommy Wiseau, who wrote, produced and directed one of the most infamous cult films of the post millennium, “The Room.” Screenplay specialists Neustadter and Weber adapted the book of “The Disaster Artist,” written by Tom Bissell and Greg Sestero. Greg was an actor in “The Room,” and is portrayed in film by James Franco’s brother Dave. The key for the screenwriters was finding the heart of Tommy Wiseau and Greg’s relationship, on the way to creating his cult masterwork.

Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber broke through in 2009 with “500 Days of Summer,” based on an actual relationship

The Last Word on ‘Sausage Party’

Yeah, I’m sure somebody’s going to Hell for making ‘Sausage Party‘, and I’m probably going there with them, although considering the options, I’ll take it. I’d rather be swinging on a star and carry honey-flavored mustard in a jar than be a fish or a pig, or a hot dog or a bun, or be that jar or honey mustard, or for that matter, pretty much any food one can think of. Of course, I know what happens out in the “Great Beyond”, the legendary place outside Shopwell’s supermarket where all the foods hope and prey that one day, they’ll be chosen by the gods to go to. The latest hallucinogenic-inspired piece of insanity from the writing team of Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, is an R-rated animated feature, about food. Sorta in the same way that ‘Toy Story‘ was about the world of

The Franco brothers chat to us about The Disaster Artist, The Room and Tommy Wiseau...

The story of the 'Citizen Kane of bad movies', The Disaster Artist, has been brought to the screen by writer-director James Franco, who takes the lead role in the film. And Dave Franco, who is the co-lead. The two brothers tell the tale of The Room, Tommy Wiseau's infamous bad movie that's become a cult hit. And on the promotional tour for the movie, they spared us some time for a natter...

[The interview begins with just Dave at the table, as James is chatting with a group of publicists the other side of the room.]

You’ve spent the last day or so bouncing from interview to interview, haven’t you?

Df: We spent the last month and a half or so bouncing from interview to interview.

That must be exhausting.

Df: It is, it is, but it could be worse. At least we like the movie. The alternative is not fun.

No,

Seth Rogen + Evan Goldberg’s ‘The Boys’ Has Begun the Search for Talent

Last week, Amazon announced that they will be home to Seth Rogen and his writing, producing, and directing partner, Evan Goldberg’s latest TV venture, “The Boys.” It’s a comic adaptation from the same author that created the “Preacher” comics, Garth Ennis, and Rogen and Goldberg were responsible for bringing that to the screen for AMC. The duo had previously announced that the series would go to Cinemax, but after a time in development, Amazon officially gave the project the green light. “The Boys” is a dark superhero story that follows a group of vigilantes, which gives the series its title, the boys, who bring down corrupt superheroes by fighting dirty. There’s no talent attached to the series as of now, but Los Angeles–based Ulrich/Dawson/Kritzer will be handling casting. There’s no word on when or where production will take place, but it appears that

What People Are Saying about Hulu’s “Future Man”

Future Man is one of the latest web series to have become available on Hulu. It is centered around a janitor named Josh Futturman who is obsessed with a single-player shooter called Biotic Wars. As it turns out, the shooter is a recruiting tool for an army from the future, which explains the name of the web series. Overall, Future Man is an action-comedy from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg with a somewhat tenuous connection to video games, meaning that people who are interested in any one of those elements might want to consider checking out the web series in

‘Future Man’ Review: Seth Rogen’s Zealously Bawdy Hulu Series Riffs on Sci-Fi Classics for New-ish Adventures

‘Future Man’ Review: Seth Rogen’s Zealously Bawdy Hulu Series Riffs on Sci-Fi Classics for New-ish Adventures
In referential narratives, there’s a point where a nod to popular culture becomes so obvious the writers feel the need to specifically acknowledge it. “Community” consistently did this well, crafting individual episodes around known films or TV shows, like “A Fistful of Paintballs” or “Documentary Filmmaking: Redux,” and naming their episodes after the homages (if not directly announcing them in the narrative). But those were one-off spoofs of form as much as function, featuring stylistic touches that served as a tip of the hat to the filmmakers. They were quickly forgotten as the long-term story moved on to another target the next episode.

'Future Man': How 'Back to the Future' and 'Terminator 2' Inspired Seth Rogen's Hulu Comedy

When Josh Hutcherson first met with Seth Rogen and his producing partner Evan Goldberg about Future Man, he knew immediately it was something special.

"They pitched me this show that was so ridiculous and so unique and nothing like I had seen anywhere before," the Hunger Games actor recalls from his trailer on the Hulu series' Culver City set.

It might sound like standard hyperbolic actor talk, but a closer look at the premise of the Hulu comedy suggests otherwise.

The half-hour, which premieres its entire 13-episode first season Tuesday, centers on a world-ranked gamer named Josh (Hutcherson), who works...

Amazon acquires The Boys adaptation from Seth Rogen

Seth Rogen is developing yet another comic book series to television, this time over at Amazon Studios. He and his partner Evan Goldberg are developing the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson series The Boys for an eight-episode season in 2019. The TV adaptation has been created and written by Supernatural‘s Eric Kripke with Sony Pictures Television producing.

The original comic series ran from 2006 – 2012 and had satirical versions of many popular heroes, such as Batman, Spider-Man, the Justice League, the Avengers and many other heroes from comics. Unlike most of the heroes Ennis and Robertson based them off of, though, The Boys don’t care too much about playing by the rules and upholding a ‘no killing’ policy. The official synopsis of The Boys is:

In a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame, The Boys centers on a group of vigilantes known informally as ‘the boys,
