Johnson Sought For "Wolfman," "Shaolin"

Sony Pictures has acquired the film rights to Jay Longino's upcoming graphic novel "Son of Shaolin" which they will produce with Dwayne Johnson's Seven Bucks Productions label.

The contemporary story is said to be about kung fu, but plot specifics are under wraps. Johnson and Dany Garcia will produce and Johnson is Not expected to play a role on screen. Longino will adapt the script.

In related news, Universal Pictures is reportedly looking at having Johnson headline their upcoming new take on "The Wolfman" which will be a part of the studio's budding cinematic Monsterverse.

Aaron Guzikowski ("Prisoners") is penning the script while Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan will produce. This cinematic universe kicks off with "The Mummy" reboot which opens next June.

Dwayne Johnson Producing Sony Adaptation of Graphic Novel ‘Son of Shaolin’

Sony Pictures has acquired “Son of Shaolin,” a feature pitch based on the upcoming graphic novel of the same name, with Dwayne Johnson and his Seven Bucks Productions producing.

The book was written by Jay Longino and while the plot is being kept under wraps, sources describe it as a contemporary story about kung fu.

Johnson and Dany Garcia from Seven Bucks Productions will produce and while projects involving Johnson are usually conceived as star vehicles for the mega-star, insiders say he will only produce as of now.

Johnson is currently shooting “Fast and Furious 8” and has Sony’s “Jumanji” reboot and New Line’s “Rampage” on the horizon next year.

As for Seven Bucks Productions, their pipeline is continuing to grow with “Baywatch,” starring Johnson and Zac Efron, bowing next summer, as well as “Jumanji,” “Doc Savage” and a sequel to “San Andreas” all in development. Wme reps both Johnson and Seven Bucks Productions. »

ComicBook.com interviewed Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's producer, Hiram Garcia to talk about the status of “Shazam!” which Johnson will star in. Dany Garcia and Johnson formed the production company, Seven Bucks Productions, which has developed a variety of films and shows which includes the “Fast & Furious” films, New Line Cinema’s “San Andreas”, and the HBO series “Ballers.”

Garcia talked exclusively with ComicBook.com to give an update on the comic adaptation of “Shazam!” which will feature Johnson as the villain Black Adam opposite the superhero Captain Marvel. Garcia said:

"We're a good way into development. We're expecting a next draft soon which I think is really gonna put us in the zone that we're hoping for."

With the wheels already in motion for its classic movie monsters universe, Universal is now ready to develop new movies based on the creator of one of its most popular franchises.

Ben Smith and Jeffrey Weiner/Captivate Entertainment, together with James Vanderbilt, Brad Fischer and William Sherak/Mythology have closed a deal with Universal to produce a collective universe of films based on the bestselling novels of Robert Ludlum, who is best known for creating the Jason Bourne series that the studio has already turned into massive movie franchise. The first feature being developed in the new venture is Ludlum’s “The Janson Directive” starring Dwayne Johnson.

The Time Warner-owned cable-news network announced its intention to continue its documentary-style looks at popular culture in ten-year increments by adding “The Nineties” to its recent series on “The Sixties,” “The Seventies” and “The Eighties.” Executive produced by  producers Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman in association with HBO and producer Mark Herzog, the eight-part series will examine milestones from the 1990s, including the rise of the Internet and the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.

Jack Black in Talks to Join Dwayne Johnson in ‘Jumanji’

Jack Black is in negotiations to join Dwayne Johnson in Sony Pictures’ new re-imagining of the classic children’s book “Jumanji.” Jake Kasdan is on board to direct with Matt Tolmach producing.

Variety also broke the news that Kevin Hart was in talks to star. Sources indicate that his deal is still being worked out.

The pic is set to bow on July 28, 2017.

William Teitler is also producing with Ted Field, Mike Weber and Johnson, Dany Garcia and Van Allsburg are executive producing. Principal photography is expected to start this August in Honolulu.

Pamela Anderson will appear in the “Baywatch” film revival. The actress and model became a household name starring as C.J. Parker on the original iconic television series.

Anderson’s casting news was announced via Dwayne Johnson’s Instagram late Thursday night.

Dwayne Johnson, Pitbull, Drew Barrymore Developing Projects for MTV

MTV has hit the gas on development under the regime installed last fall when former Discovery digital exec Sean Atkins took over as president.

The cabler unveiled more than a dozen new series and specials on tap for the coming year. It also touted another nine development prospects, ranging from a comedic spin on movie news exec produced by Dwayne Johnson to a scripted projects shepherded by Pitbull and Drew Barrymore.

MTV is hoping to dazzle advertising buyers with the breadth of its new slate as its upfront presentation Thursday night at Manhattan’s Skylight at Moynihan Station event space. MTV needs to generate some heat as it has suffered steep ratings declines during the past two years.

Supermodel Charlotte McKinney has joined the cast of Paramount’s “Baywatch” movie adaptation starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.

Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, “Quantico” actress Priyanka Chopra and Ilfenesh Hadera are also on board to star. Seth Gordon is directing the film.

Johnson will also produce the movie with his partner Dany Garcia through their Seven Bucks Productions banner. Beau Flynn and Ivan Reitman are producing as well, along with Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz and Greg Bonann.

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift wrote the latest draft of the script. The first footage of the film made a splash at ComicCon last week.

McKinney has been tapped to play one of the locals in the bay community.

The film will mark McKinney’s biggest acting job to date. She previously appeared in season 20 of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” as well as appeared in Spike TV’s “Lip Sync Battle »

Sony is getting closer to rebooting a Robin Williams classic with two of the busiest actors in town, looking to build on what is already an impressive slate at the studio.

Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart are in early talks to star in Sony’s “Jumanji,” sources tell Variety. Schedules are still being worked out, as both actors have heavy production loads ahead, but insiders say things are moving toward a deal.

Johnson has an opening this fall with his New Line pic “Rampage” possibly shifting to 2017. The plan would be to shoot “Jumanji” before the third season of his HBO series “Ballers.” Johnson will also shoot “Fast 8” this summer, reprising his role of Agent Hobbs.

Hart is expected to shoot “The Intouchables” remake for Weinstein this summer opposite Bryan Cranston, and according to sources, working out this part of the schedule could prove difficult.
