The Best Lonely Island Story You Didn’t Know about Involving Kiefer Sutherland

If you know anything about The Lonely Island you still might not know this story involving Keifer Sutherland. In 2000 the trio that was responsible for The Lonely Island, Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone, were filming a video for their show, The Lonely Island, which was so named for the low-rent, modest apartment the trio shared. They would often stay up late at night recording music videos and coming up with ideas to pitch to networks while attempting to make their own brand a workable deal. The role that Sutherland played in this group’s rise to fame was

Movie Review – Brigsby Bear (2017)

Brigsby Bear, 2017.

Directed by Dave McCary.

Starring Kyle Mooney, Mark Hamill, Jane Adams, Beck Bennett, Claire Danes, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Greg Kinnear, Kate Lyn Sheil, Ryan Simpkins, Matt Walsh, Michaela Watkins, and Andy Samberg.

Synopsis:

James (Kyle Mooney) adores the TV show Brigsby Bear, a ramshackle slice of 80s children’s entertainment about which he has created online forums upon which to discuss his shelves and shelves of archived VHS tapes. He lives a quiet life with his father (Mark Hamill) and mother (Jane Adams), until one day his world is irreparably changed by a revelation that forces him to view the world in a completely different way.

Reviewing Dave McCary’s ode to friendship and filmmaking is a tricky ordeal, because the less you know about this wonderful little oddity, the better.

It’s tough in today’s cinematic landscape to eek out anything approaching original, but Brigsby Bear

More Monster Humor: 'Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation' Trailer

"If anyone needs a vacation... it's Drac!" Sony has unveiled the first trailer for the animated sequel Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, again directed by the animation mastermind Genndy Tartakovsky. By now you should know what to expect with this series, considering we're about to see the third one next year. Hotel Transylvania 3 brings back the "Drac Pack" and his family/squad, this time going on a summer vacation cruise. Apparently he falls for the "intriguing-yet-dangerous" captain of the ship, causing problems of course. This once again featuring the voices of Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, and Genndy Tartakovsky. I'm a fan of Tartakovsky so I want to be into these, but I don't think I've watched any, and I don't know if I want to watch them. Something just tells me no, not for me. But - enjoy it anyway. First two trailers for Genndy Tartakovsky's Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation,

Allied (Robert Zemeckis)

That thing we can’t take for granted: a film whose many parts – period piece, war picture, blood-spattered actioner, deception-fueled espionage thriller, sexy romance, and, at certain turns, comedy – can gracefully move in conjunction and separate from each other, just as its labyrinthine-but-not-quite plot jumps from one setpiece to the next with little trouble in maintaining a consistency of overall pleasure. Another late-career triumph for Robert Zemeckis,

‘Saturday Night Live’ Review: First-Time Host Tiffany Haddish Proves She Truly is Ready

‘Saturday Night Live’ Review: First-Time Host Tiffany Haddish Proves She Truly is Ready
Is it time? Because it feels like it’s time. Time for the official campaign for Tiffany Haddish’s Oscar nomination to begin, and what better place to begin than with a hosting gig on “Saturday Night Live?”

Tiffany Haddish’s performance in this year’s “Girls Trip” is absolutely worthy of Oscar attention — and her work on “The Carmichael Show” as well as her stand-up special “She Ready” definitely deserve praise too — and hosting “Saturday Night Live” is as declarative a statement as they come. Especially as the first African-American female stand-up comedian (yeah, neither Whoopi Goldberg nor Wanda Sykes have done this) to host in the series’ 43 seasons.

Host: Tiffany Haddish

Tiffany Haddish is just infectious positivity in comedy form, which is kind of necessary considering there’s still a question of what this season of “Saturday Night Live” wants to be outside of “a reminder that everything in the world is bonkers-slash-horrifying.

‘Lady Dynamite’ Season 2 Review: The Perfect Antidote for This Woman-Hating Garbage World

‘Lady Dynamite’ Season 2 Review: The Perfect Antidote for This Woman-Hating Garbage World
Every day, it seems, we’re confronted by reminder after reminder that the world is a dumpster fire, so it’s a genuine relief to have a new season of “Lady Dynamite” premiere this weekend. Reality is dumb, but life inside Maria Bamford’s brain is a blessing.

The series, created by Mitch Hurwitz and Pam Brady, is based on Bamford’s life to a deeply felt degree, celebrating her quirks as it chronicles her misadventures as an actor and comedian with plenty of meta touches and occasional dashes of the profane. Inside Maria’s brain, the rules of time and space are constantly in flux, pugs can talk, and even the darkest truths feel bearable, especially when her issues with manic depression and bipolar disorder flare up. At times, “Lady Dynamite” goes down some dark paths. But because the show is so throughly grounded in Bamford’s innate goodness,

‘Nature Boy’ Review: Ric Flair Documentary Effectively Grapples with a Pro Wrestling Icon Lost in His Own Persona

‘Nature Boy’ Review: Ric Flair Documentary Effectively Grapples with a Pro Wrestling Icon Lost in His Own Persona
Much like the life of the mammoth pro wrestling personality it profiles, “Nature Boy” is both a celebration and a warning siren for would-be aspirants to fame and fortune. The latest installment of Espn’s “30 for 30” documentary series is under no delusion that Ric Flair didn’t enjoy (or at many points, bask in) his popularity as one of the biggest pro athletes in the world. But Rory Karpf‘s film also provides some helpful and needed context for the man that he was when he wasn’t landing pile drives. Those two figures may have eventually blurred together to the point of being unrecognizable, but the film does an admirable job of trying to distinguish between the two.

In true biographical fashion, “Nature Boy” charts Flair’s upbringing in an adoptive home, through his less-than-stellar academic career, to the origins of his wrestling superstardom. Eventually embracing a career that he initially shied away from,
