Exclusive: Terry George talks The Promise, it’s historical relevance and his thoughts on modern cinema

12 hours ago | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Scott Davis

Writer/director Terry George’s new film, The Promise, arrives on UK shores this weekend amidst some resistance: the event it chronicles, the genocide of 1.5million Armenians from 1915, was one of the first modern genocides and has historically been surrounded in controversy. So much so that after the film was shown at last year’s Toronto Film Festival, IMDb registered over 57,000 one-star votes, which some commentators said was a campaign to downrate it by deniers of the genocide.

But none of that has derailed those involved in the film, particularly George, who says that the story was an important one that needed to be told, particularly as many modern audiences know little to nothing about the event. On the historical relevance, George told us:

“The fact that you don’t know much about the history speaks to the success of the Turkish governments who have repressed this »

Hakuna Matata! Seth Rogen and Billy Eicher to voice Pumbaa and Timon in The Lion King remake

19 hours ago | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Scott Davis

It’s our problem-free philosophy, so they say. Pre-production has begun at Disney on their latest and highly anticipated live-action remake of The Lion King, which is being directed by Jon Favreau who made last year’s The Jungle Book remake for the studio.

After the success of Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast (the latter of which has just passed the $1billion at the worldwide box office), many of the studio’s animated classics are getting the remake treatment but the story of the young cub who became King of Pride Rock is perhaps the most eagerly-awaited. And work is cranking up on the film with casting and The Wrap has reported that the comedic duo of Timon and Pumbaa have been found in the form of Seth Rogen (Sausage Party) and Billy Eichner (American Horror Story).

The actors, who co-starred in last year’s Bad Neighbours 2, »

In amongst all of the summer movie madness that is slowly cranking up in the film world, many will soon the return of some of their favourite franchises whether it’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Transformers, Alien, Planet of the Apes or the recently released Fast & Furious 8.

But one new sequel that has many question marks over it is the fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Dead Men Tell No Tales, and while the previous few entries have been big hits they haven’t been received with as much positivity as the first adventure. Orlando Bloom, who starred in the first three films, is returning for part 5 as Will Turner and says where the sequels have disappointed, the new film will bring back much of the charm and adventure of the original.

Premiere Interviews: The cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

24 April 2017 4:32 PM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Jon Lyus

This evening those pesky Guardians of the Galaxy hit town for the European Premiere of Vol. 2 of James Gunn’s Marvel trilogy. The first film was a standout hit for the studio, doing much to flame the dwindling embers of the once furiously lit McU. Not only was it a comic book property mostly unknown but it was an ensemble film, with a couple of very tricky characters in the mix. A combination of a fine and fun script, and some sterling performances made for the most entertaining superhero movie in a long time, and the sequel more than lives up to its promise.

The cast for the new film includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillian, Elizabeth Debicki, Pom Klementieff, Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper. That’s one busy premiere… Here’s the cast introducing the film at the event tonight. »

It’s been a busy weekend over at 20th Century Fox with a wave of announcements regarding their upcoming slate for the next couple of years. Earlier, the studio announced the release dates for its three big Marvel films – New Mutants, Deadpool 2 and X-Men: Dark Phoenix story – but those weren’t the only big ones to be announced.

Avatar takes flight as we begin concurrent production on four sequels. The journey continues December 18, 2020, December 17, 2021, December 20, 2024, and December 19, 2025!”

In other moves, the studio has changed the release date for the upcoming sequel Kingman: The Golden Circle (who’s first trailer is due today) which has jumped forward a week to September 22nd this year. A similar jump »

Chris Pratt opens up about Passengers as new fan video suggests an interesting theory

20 April 2017 9:22 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Scott Davis

Chris Pratt is beginning the long slog that is the worldwide press tour for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 (the cast and filmmakers come to the UK next week) and while most of the attention is on the long-awaited sequel, some of the talks has veered off into chats about Jurassic World 2 and, more specifically, his previous film Passengers.

The sci-fi romantic drama, directed by Morten Tyldem (The Imitation Game), co-starred Oscar Winner Jennifer Lawrence and was met with a mixed response from critics on its release back in December. Audiences too were perhaps not as big as the studio would have hoped given the budget and cast involved, and the film grossed around $300million from its reported $110million. But despite the criticism and lukewarm box-office, Pratt spoke to Variety about the film and said that while he is still proud of the film reactions »

You ain’t never had a friend like me! Is Will Smith the new Genie for Aladdin remake?

19 April 2017 12:56 PM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Scott Davis

Hey, Al! Disney is moving forward quickly with some of their live-action remakes and given the success of those that have already been released, it’s hardly surprising. After Maleficent, Cinderella, and The Jungle Book took the box office by storm (with the latter finishing just shy of $1billion), many more classics are getting a 21st-century makeover.

Mulan, Dumbo, Pocahontas and The Lion King, to be directed by Jungle Book helmer Jon Favreau, are all currently in pre-production but one film that looks set to follow is Aladdin. Guy Ritchie, director of King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Sherlock Holmes, is taking on the new adaptation and while many have given their two cents on just how the movie will look, the biggest job is to find a Genie.

In one of Disney’s biggest challenges thus far, they and Ritchie must try to find a »

Fast and Furious 8 smashes record for biggest worldwide opening ever beating Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Author: Scott Davis

Well, this is certainly something of a shock. After Fast and Furious 7 conquered the worldwide box office with over $1.5billion, it was expected that its follow-up, Fast and Furious 8, would go a similar way but what is surprising is how “fast” the film has raced out of the blocks on its opening weekend and “sped” into the record books (via Box Office Mojo).

Beginning with its opening in the Us, the eighth installment earned an estimated $98.7million (earlier estimates had the opening slightly higher at around $103million) and while that is down on the 7th film, it’s still a mighty big haul for the film and is the 2nd biggest weekend of the year so far behind Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
