The Lonely Island Movie
Universal Pictures is developing The Lonely Island’s feature after acquiring a pitch from the group. Samberg, Schaffer and Taccone will star and produce the comedy along with Apatow (Knocked Up, Bridemaids, This Is 40).
The Lonely Island achieved fame during Samberg’s stint on Saturday Night Live, which ran from 2005 to 2011. Schaffer and Taccone were writers on the NBC comic sketch show. Among their best known music videos were for “D--k in a Box,” “I’m on a Boat,” “Jizz in My Pants,” “Like a Boss” and “Lazy Sunday.”
The Lonely Island has also released three albums – Incredibad (2009), Turtleneck & Chain (2011) and The Wack Album (2013). For The Wack Album, The Lonely Island was able to assemble an impressive roster of artists, »
It’s been four years since anyone thought a Saturday Night Live sketch deserved a shot at full-length featuredom. Four sweet, blissful years, unburdened by thoughts of Bill Hader’s Stefon twitching his way through 90 minutes of disappointment. But now that heavenly streak has been broken. Deadline reports that Universal has bestowed a grand “you know, this might not suck” to a Lonely Island movie. All three Islanders – Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer – will star in and produce the flick, with Taccone and Schaffer co-directing. Judd Apatow will also throw his weight behind the boys and also act as producer on the film, which will be “set in the world of music.” No word if that actually means a musical, but this is The Lonely Island, so we can stamp that with a definitive yeah, probably a musical. Saturday Night Live should be patting itself on the back. The Lonely Island »

When we found out this week that comedy troupe The Lonely Island would be making a movie, we thought, of course. The group rose to fame as the purveyors of Saturday Night Live's digital shorts, which have gotten people talking (and rewatching) since the first one premiered in 2005. Sure, some are better than others, but when a Lonely Island digital short was good, it usually became a pop culture phenomenon. Though there's not a lot known about the movie that Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone will make, we know it will be awesome. Here's our proof: the 10 best, most memorable Lonely Island videos, from the original songs you still love to the so-silly-they're-genius skits. 1. "D*ck in a Box" 2. "Lazy Sunday" 3. "I'm on a Boat" featuring T-Pain 4. Natalie's Rap 5. "The Shooting Aka Dear Sister" 6. "Like a Boss" The Lonely Island like a boss from lewroll21 on Vimeo. »
Like some elaborate act of God and conspiracy that crosses timelines and layers of philosophy and perspective worthy of True Detective itself, a dense conversation has formed over the last week regarding whether True Detective showrunner Nic Pizzolato plagiarized the character and idea of Rust Cohle off of similar ideas in the book Conspiracies Against the Human Race by Thomas Ligotti. The debate first started when writer Mike Davis over at The Lovecraft Zine posted an interview he conducted with the head of Thomas Ligotti online, Jon Padgett. The article cites numerous instances of fairly similar expressions and turns of phrase that feel inspired by the Ligotti novel from 2010, including arguments that Pizzolato only brought up Ligotti in interviews when prodded and never alluded to the author on the DVD commentary. Padgett alleged that this was particularly serious because Rust’s character helped make the show unique:

The Walk: The first official photos from Robert Zemeckis' The Walk have been released. The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Philippe Petit, the daredevil who walked on a tightrope between the Twin Towers in New York City in 1974; it's heading for release on October 2, 2015. [The Playlist] The Lonely Island: The comedy trio known as the Lonely Island, namely, Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, will star in a new comedy for Universal. Judd Apatow will serve as a producer for the project, which is set in the music world. The trio previously collaborated on the 2007 comedy Hot Rod (see a behind-the-scenes photo of them during production, apparently exhausted, above); Schaffer and Taccone will codirect the new feature. Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone, who made their comedy bones as The Lonely Island trio that specialized in Saturday Night Live digital shorts like “Lazy Sunday,” and “D–k in a Box,” will produce and star in a Universal movie co-produced by Judd Apatow. The plot remains under wraps, though it’s set in the world of music, a logical choice since Lonely Island has released three studio albums. (They were also partially responsible for “Everything Is Awesome,” the contagious hit from February’s The Lego Movie.)
Schaffer and Taccone will co-direct. Both have experience behind the camera, »

They’ve sailed the high seas with Captain Jack Sparrow, put their d**ks in a box, sported killer turtlenecks and chains, and just had sex – now, musical comedy trio The Lonely Island, comprised of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, are making a movie. Universal has picked up the project, set in the world of music, which the three will star in and produce.
Judd Apatow is on board as a producer through his Judd Apatow Productions banner, while Taccone and Schaffer are set to split directing duties. Neither are first-timers – Schaffer and Taccone co-directed the popular Saturday Night Live Digital Comedy sketches, including for the aforementioned songs and many more, which propelled The Lonely Island to international stardom.

I can see the trailers and posters now: from the guys who brought you "Jizz In My Pants," "I Just Had Sex," "Jack Sparrow," "Motherlover," "I'm On A Boat" and "Lazy Sunday." And you know what? I'll be the first one in line for whatever they have cooking up. The Lonely Island — the music/digital short/movie team of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone — are teaming up with producer Judd Apatow for a musical world set comedy film at Universal. That's about all the plot details there are, but Schaffer and Taccone will co-direct this mystery project, with both guys more than comfortable behind the camera. It won't be the trio's first time teaming up to make a movie. As cult comedy enthusiasts already know, they delivered the ridiculous "Hot Rod" in 2007, which while certainly not perfect, had more than a few worthwhile moments of hilarity. And since then, »

The Lonely Island have already shared their absurd musical comedy on Saturday Night Live and three studio albums. But now the trio (Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone) are branching further into feature film with a new, as-yet-untitled project acquired by Universal. According to The Hollywood Reporter, all three will star in the big-screen comedy, which "is set in the music world." The trio will co-produce the movie, along with Judd Apatow Productions; Schaffer and Taccone will co-direct.
This is very exciting news, especially for those who like to giggle uncontrollably: The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that The Lonely Island, the jokey trio behind the SNL Digital Short sensations "D*ck in a Box," "I'm on a Boat," and that one where Natalie Portman does gangsta rap, are getting their own movie. The Lonely Island, composed of Jorma Taccone, Akiva Schaffer, and Andy Samberg, will all star in the film, with Taccone and Schaffer co-directing. We expect there will be star-wipes and laser cats and that it will be very R-rated.
The report says notes that the project is set up at Universal, with some guy named Judd Apatow producing. (Judd who?) It supposedly takes place within the world of professional music, and we can only assume that there will be a bunch of new songs / a new album tightly connected with the project. (The group has two »

The Lonely Island, which is a group comprised of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, have teamed up with Universal Pictures for an untitled comedy. The trio are behind such "Saturday Night Live" musical hits as "D*ck in a Box", "Like a Boss" and "I'm on a Boat." It's not clear what the story will be about, but it will be set in the music world. Judd Apatow is producing through his company. It's not clear who will direct, but it will likely be either Schaffer (The Watch) or Taccone (MacGruber). »
Having rose to fame performing skits on Saturday Night Live featuring songs like “I’m on a Boat” and “Dick in a Box”, comedy trio Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone – better known as The Lonely Island – will now be taking their music parody project to the big screen. Universal have bought the rights with Schaffer (Hot Rod, The Watch) and Taccone (MacGruber) co-directing. THR are reporting that Judd Apatow (Bridesmaids) has signed on to produce with the trio executive producing and lending their hands to writing duties.
Their debut album ‘Incredibad’ was released back in 2009 while Samberg and company were still active on the SNL roster but after saying their goodbyes The Lonely Island then released their second album in 2013 titled ‘The Wack Album’ which featured duets with some of music’s biggest names including Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga and Adam Levine. It was co-produced by Pharrell Williams and Billie Joe Armstrong. »

When it comes to comedy musical groups there are none bigger than The Lonely Island. Comprised of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone, the group first collaborated during their stints on Saturday Night Live, but have gone on to release 2 star packed albums. Their song, ‘I Just Had Sex’ featuring Akon, has over 200 million views on YouTube, with other classics such as the Michael Bolton accompanied ‘Jack Sparrow’ also well into the 9 digit viewings. With Samberg also a constant present in film and on TV it may come as no surprise that a Lonely Island film is now in the works with Judd Apatow producing.
Universal have picked up the pitch for the film, which Schaffer and Taccone will direct. The trio are certainly casting a wide net in the entertainment industry, as they have also signed a deal with Fox to produce shows on digital platforms. Hopefully this »

After bringing their comedic sensibility to Saturday Night Live’s digital shorts and scoring jobs co-starring in or writing/directing movies with other people, the Lonely Island team (who last made Hot Rod) are about to unleash the full force of their madness on the big screen once again. Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone are cooking up a new movie for Universal. The project doesn’t have a title yet, but the three will co-write and star in a story set in the music world (which makes sense given their side rap personalities and love of creating silly songs) that Taccone and Schaffer, who have both directed other movies, will tackle together.Judd Apatow has stepped up to produce, and little else is known about what we can expect. Given that this is the trio that came up with such instant classics and this and this, expect madness. »
The Lonely Island — the comedy trio consisting of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone, who are responsible for SNL hits like "Dick in a Box" and "I'm on a Boat" — are getting their own movie. Not much is known about the project yet other than that it is "set in the music world," with Schaffer and Taccone co-directing and Judd Apatow signed on to produce. Hey, maybe it's a full-length remake of "Dick in a Box!" (We really hope not.) »

Thanks to a jump start on "Saturday Night Live," the comedy hip-hop group known as The Lonely Island has become a viral sensation online. It all started with "Lazy Sunday" and has since spread to hilarious hit tracks like "Dick in a Box" and "I'm on a Boat." Now the musical trio formed by Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone are heading to the big screen in a currently untitled comedy at Universal Pictures with Judd Apatow on board to produce. All three of the members will star in the film, but the only story details known at this time are that it will be set in the music world, which makes perfect sense. If you're not familiar with The Lonely Island for some reason, here's some videos to watch: THR reports the film will be co-directed by Schaffer and Taccone, which is both surprising and not for two different reasons. »

The first photo is out of Tom Hiddleston, Luke Evans, cinematographer Laurie Rose, and director Ben Wheatley on the set of the film adaptation of J.G. Ballard's darkly satirical horror tale "High Rise". There's even a Lego version of this photo out. Click here for the actual one, and here for the Lego one.
The report comes from Schmoes Know who admit they have no idea what role she'd play be it Bond girl, villainess or a supporting character of some kind.

Judd Apatow is perhaps best known in the public for his work as a director, but it's his prolific work as a producer that has given him opportunity to work with some of the funniest talents in the entertainment industry. From Anchorman to Bridesmaids to the television series Freaks and Geeks, he has been behind some of the best comedies of the last two decades and helped extend the reach of some very funny people. Next up on that list? The boys in the musical group The Lonely Island. Variety has gotten word that Judd Apatow and Universal Pictures have struck a deal with Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone that will see them all work together on an upcoming movie. The report says that the project began based on a pitch by the three writers/actors, and that the plan is for all three to star and produce. »
