‘Morning Joe’ Trashes Trump’s Health Care Plan: ‘Obviously Stupid Play’ (Video)

22 hours ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough ripped the “stupidity” of the proposed health care reform on Friday, pointing to a poll that shows only 17 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s revised plan. Trump has said that if his revised plan does not get approved, he will move on and Republicans will be stuck with Obamacare. The “Morning Joe” namesake accused President Trump of rushing the plan to get it ready for the seventh anniversary of Obamacare. “It’s preposterous for Donald Trump to think he can just walk in, between honking 18-wheeler horns, pretending like he’s driving on the White House lawn… »

MSNBC Programs Start Giving More Space to NBC News Logos

23 March 2017 3:44 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

It’s no secret that anchors and reporters from NBC News have had a greater presence on their parent company’s cable outlet, MSNBC. Now, the network is making sure that viewers know about it in no uncertain terms.

Since Saturday, MSNBC has featured the NBC News logo more prominently on its air, such as when MSNBC programs break for commercials, and on the primary set for the network’s daytime programs, which feature NBC News staffers like Andrea Mitchell, Katy Tur, and Kate Snow. During on-screen interviews between people in the company’s New York and Washington, D.C., studios the locations are now being identified as “NBC News – New York” and “NBC NewsWashington.” The NBC News logo has also been made an element in some scenic elements of the daytime sets, according to the network.

Joe Scarborough: ‘Remove Devin Nunes as Intel Chairman’

22 March 2017 5:31 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough called on Republicans to drop Rep. Devin Nunes as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee after a chain of events that suggested Nunes was sucking up to the White House instead of working in the interests of Congress. “If the Republican Party wants to do what is best for this country and its national security, they will remove Devin Nunes as Intel Chairman,” tweeted Scarborough, a former Republican congressman from Florida. The tweet continued the “Mean Girls”-pattern of friendliness and fighting that has characterized the Trump-Scarborough relationship for months. Last week, things got so »

‘Morning Joe’ Blasts ‘Shameful’ Gop: ‘Trump Was Lying About Barack Obama’ (Video)

21 March 2017 6:21 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough ripped President Trump and the Gop on the heels of FBI Director James Comey’s testimony before the House Intelligence Committee. “Obviously No. 1, Donald Trump was lying about Barack Obama… We knew it but now we got confirmation from the FBI and the Justice Department,” Scarborough said on Tuesday morning’s show. “No. 2… The FBI is investigating Donald Trump and his team.” Scarborough then pondered aloud why American voters went into Election Day thinking that Hillary Clinton was the focus of an FBI investigation, but the investigation into the Trump campaign’s Russian. »

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski on Trump and Why ‘Everyone’ Should Ban Kellyanne Conway From TV

21 March 2017 3:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski long ago put to rest the notion that morning shows had to be fluffy and light to gain traction among the toast-and-orange juice crowd. Their “Morning Joe,” co-hosted with Willie Geist, has become an MSNBC must-stop for anyone seeking to divine how Washington works — or doesn’t.

As the team approaches a decade on the air, however, its hosts have generated some controversy. Do they support President Trump or oppose him, and what does that mean for how their program is perceived? In an interview last week, Brzezinski and a vacationing Scarborough held forth, trading responses as Scarborough called in via smart phone and Brzezinski worked her way through a quick bowl of Cheerios – and then power-walked through the stairs and hallways of NBCUniversal’s New York headquarters to get back to the set. Their rapport and interest in a more intellectual discussion of politics has brought a windfall to their cable-news »

‘Morning Joe': Trump Released ‘One Positive Tax Return’ to Distract From Russia, Trumpcare

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough took to Twitter on Wednesday morning to accuse President Trump of leaking his own tax return to David Cay Johnston, who unveiled it on “The Rachel Maddow Show” on Wednesday night. The reason, according to Scarborough? “To distract from Russia hearings and the Trumpcare meltdown.” This one tax return is not bad for him because he cherry picked one return from over a decade ago and had it leaked to the press. https://t.co/P5cMuApGVe — Joe Scarborough (@JoeNBC) March 15, 2017 The Trump camp released one positive tax return to distract from Russia hearings and the Trumpcare meltdown. »

President Trump Unfollows ‘Morning Joe’ Hosts on Twitter

13 March 2017 6:28 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

President Trump unfollowed MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski on Twitter after his former supposed allies have become increasingly critical of his administration. Trump’s @realDonaldTrump account as of Monday only follows 41 people. That number dropped from 43 in the last 36 hours after the “Morning Joe” co-hosts were unfollowed by Potus. Trump now only follows members of his cabinet and family, friendly media organizations such as Drudge Report, conservative personalities such as Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter, and a variety of Trump businesses. In Trump News Cycle, CNN Touts New Mission for ‘New Day’

8 March 2017 6:45 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The clock was just a few ticks past seven in the morning during a recent broadcast of CNN’s “New Day,” and co-anchor Chris Cuomo acted as if he were grilling someone during the evening.

His early-a.m. sparring partner was Senator Shelley Moore Capito, the West Virginia Republican. In the wake of the Attorney General Jeff Sessions agreeing to recuse himself from any investigation into Russian meddling in U.S. elections, Cuomo asked, hadn’t the time come for a special prosecutor to be appointed?

When Capito didn’t move beyond talking points, Cuomo rephrased the query and asked it again. Then again. And thrice more.

“I don’t think the morning rules apply,” Cuomo told Variety. “This is a primetime accountability show that’s on in the morning.”

And so breakfast is served at CNN, where executives decided to transform what was once a simple attempt to emulate a traditional morning-news program into a harder-hitting »

‘Morning Joe’ Calls Out Fox News For Its ‘Sexist’ Mocking of Mika Brzezinski

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” has beef with Fox News. On Tuesday’s edition of Fox’s “Outnumbered,” the panel mocked “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski’s for emotionally speaking out against actions taken by President Trump, calling her a “commentator,” not a “journalist.” “Nothing sexist there,” Brzezinski’s male co-host Joe Scarborough sarcastically noted on Wednesday morning’s show, which just so happened to fall on International Women’s Day. Brzezinski went on to describe “Outnumbered” as a program where “all these people with long legs and short skirts talk about how people feel about the news.” Scarborough continued: “They »

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe’ co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski bashed President Trump on Monday, calling his recent tweets a “low, low moment for Washington.” “We are in a crisis,” Scarborough declared. On Saturday, Trump tweeted unsubstantiated claims that Barack Obama had illegally wiretapped Trump Tower before last fall’s election. The White House has called on Congress to “determine whether executive branch investigative powers were abused in 2016.” Brzezinski said the claims by Trump leaves only two possibilities. MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and White House chief strategist Steve Bannon traded jabs in a Bloomberg profile of senior policy adviser Stephen Miller. Scarborough has been extremely critical of Miller’s television appearances, but Bannon defended his White House colleague to Bloomberg. “When Joe Scarborough and the mainstream media attack Stephen Miller… it’s just like any opposition party,” Bannon said. “They’ll try to take out some of the best young people in any organization. Staffers for President Donald Trump claim they’ve “cracked the code” on keeping his infamously inflammatory Twitter habits under control. But have they? On Thursday’s edition of Morning Joe on MSNBC, co-anchors Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough dissected Politico White House correspondent Tara Palmeri about her recent article, “How Trump’s campaign staffers tried to keep him off Twitter.” Palmeri claimed that, in recent weeks, Trump has “run a bit cooler” on Twitter because his staffers are “controlling his media diet.” Whereas Trump typically reads the New York Times, the Washington Post and other outlets that criticize the president, staffers are now...read more »

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” played a Fox News clip of a recent interview with White House advisor Stephen Miller on Thursday that prompted co-host Joe Scarborough to say, “He is so bad on TV.” In the clip, Miller admits to Martha MacCallum that President Trump’s next travel ban will be similar to the original executive order regarding travel from seven predominately Muslim countries. The statement will presumably make it more difficult for the second version of the travel ban to make it through the court system. The Case for Banning Kellyanne Conway From TV News (Column)

17 February 2017 10:02 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The Trump Administration has presented many challenges to the television news media, but none is quite as flagrantly bizarre as the current widely held and little-disputed fact that White House Senior Counselor Kellyanne Conway can no longer be trusted on-air. Following a three-week “honeymoon” period where Conway invented a massacre, violated White House ethics rules in pimping Ivanka Trump’s clothes line on the news, and either deliberately lied or ignorantly misled the public about the president’s thinking on disgraced National Security Adviser Mike Flynn, at least one program has had enough.

Wednesday morning, Mika Brzezinski, host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” unequivocally declared that Conway would no longer be a guest on the show because of longstanding and recurring credibility issues. “Every time I’ve ever seen her on television, something is askew, off or incorrect,” Brzezinksi said on-air. Joe Scarborough, her cohost, affirmed this, albeit less strongly. “I »
