The Us rights to the Matthew McConaughey comedy The Beach Bum have been picked up by Neon and Vice.

Harmony Korine’s The Beach Bum is a comedy about the misadventures of a loveable rogue, which sounds like the perfect fit for McConaughey and a throwback to his earlier work. Production for the project begins in the fall, with the film arriving in cinemas in 2018, and will serve as Korine’s follow up to Spring Breakers.

As well as directing the film, Korine will take up writing duties, and LeGrisbi Productions’ John Lesher, Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin, Iconoclast’s Charles-Marie Anthonioz, Mourad Belkeddar and Nicolas Lhermitte will produce.

Matthew McConaughey will next appear in the long-awaited Stephen King adaptation The Dark Tower adaptation as the villain, The Man in Black. He will star in the film opposite Idris Elba as Roland the Gunslinger. »

Matthew McConaughey to star in comedy.

Neon and Vice have pre-bought Us rights to Harmony Korine’s The Beach Bum to star Matthew McConaughey.

Production is scheduled to begin in autumn on Korine’s follow-up to Spring Breakers in time for a 2018 theatrical release.

Rocket Science handles international sales and introduced the project at the Efm in Berlin.

The Beach Bum is an irreverent comedy about the misadventures of Moondog, a rebellious and lovable rogue who lives large. 

Korine will direct from his screenplay. LeGrisbi Productions’ John Lesher, Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin, Iconoclast’s Charles-Marie Anthonioz, Mourad Belkeddar and Nicolas Lhermitte will produce.

Neon’s Tom Quinn and Tim League serve as executive producers with Shane Smith, Eddy Moretti, and Danny Gabai for Vice.

Neon and Vice have pre-bought U.S. rights to Harmony Korine’s “The Beach Bum,” with Matthew McConaughey. The comedy about the misadventures of a lovable rogue (who else but the former Wooderson, McConaughey). It marks Korine’s follow-up to “Spring Breakers.”

Production will begin this fall. The film will hit theaters in 2018.

Korine will write, as well as direct. In addition to “Spring Breakers,” he wrote the script for “Kids,” the 1995 look at sexually active teens that pushed buttons. McConaughey won an Oscar for “Dallas Buyers Club” and has starred in “Interstellar” and “A Time to Kill.” He will next appear in “The Dark Tower,” a Stephen King adaptation, and “White Boy Rick,” a crime drama.

Neon and Vice have prebought U.S. rights to Harmony Korine’s “The Beach Bum.” The movie marks Korine’s first feature since 2012’s “Spring Breakers,” which took in more than $31 million at the worldwide box office.

FilmNation boards Steve Carell, Joaquin Phoenix projects

Exclusive: Amazon Studios fully finances both titles and will release in Us.

Glen Basner’s FilmNation has come on board to launch international sales on the Croisette to the latest films from Gus Van Sant and Felix van Groeningen.

Van Sant’s dramatic comedy Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot stars Joaquin PhoenixRooney Mara, Jonah Hill, and Jack Black, while van Groeningen’s Beautiful Boy stars Steve Carell.

Amazon Studios, with whom FilmNation has collaborated several times, most recently on a headline-grabbing $12m deal on Sundance hit The Big Sick, is fully financing both films and will distribute in the Us.

Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot is in post and is based on Van Sant’s adaptation of the memoir by John Callahan.

Phoenix plays a hell-raiser who is paralysed and confined to a wheelchair following a car wreck.

Mark Webber Joins Joaquin Phoenix in Gus Van Sant’s John Callahan Biopic

Green Room” actor Mark Webber has joined the cast of Gus Van Sant’s “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot,” a biopic about quadriplegic cartoonist John Callahan.

Joaquin Phoenix is set to play the film’s lead role.  Jonah Hill, Rooney Mara and Jack Black are also on board to star.

Iconoclast and Anonymous Content are producing the film, which is based on Callahan’s autobiography of the same name. The title is taken from one of Callahan’s cartoons, which often touched on taboo topics.

Webber will play Mike, a fellow Vietnam veteran and friend of Phoenix’s character who he meets during his AA meetings.

Callahan became paralyzed following a car accident at the age of 21. He turned to art as a form of therapy, drawing by clutching a pen between his two hands. He died in 2010 at the age of 59.

Jack Black is in negotiations to co-star with Joaquin Phoenix in Gus Van Sant’s “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot,” the biopic on quadriplegic cartoonist John Callahan.

Oscar-winner Matthew McConaughey will star in Harmony Korine’s new project The Beach Bum.

Korine (Spring Breakers) is directing and writing the film, with Rocket Science handling international sales at the Efm in Berlin.

McConaughey will play Moondog, a rebellious and loveable rogue. Korine said: “The Beach Bum will be a wild, audacious ride! And I can’t think of anyone better than Matthew McConaughey to play our hero Moondog, a rebellious charmer in this fast-paced, uplifting and irreverent comedy.”

LeGrisbi Productions’ John Lesher, Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin, and Iconoclast’s Charles-Marie Anthonioz, Mourad Belkeddar, and Nicolas Lhermitte will produce.

Creative Artists Agency (CAA) arranged financing for the film and are handling North American distribution rights.

The Beach Bum will begin filming in July.
