Espionage Thriller Toplines Altitude’s Afm Slate

London — A feature film version of the U.K. TV series “Spooks,” which aired in the U.S. as “Mi-5,” toplines the Afm slate of Altitude Film Sales.

Spooks: The Greater Good” is an espionage thriller produced by Shine Pictures (“Eastern Promises”) and Kudos (“Broadchurch”). The pic will be helmed by Bharat Nalluri, who was the originating director of the series.

Written by “Spooks” collaborators Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent, the film will be produced by Jane Featherstone and Stephen Garrett, who were behind the TV series for the BBC, and Ollie Madden (“Sherlock Holmes”) for Shine Pictures. The cast includes series regular Peter Firth with further casting to be announced at the Afm.

In the film, a terrorist escapes from the custody of Mi-5, the British intelligence service, during a handover. The head of counter-terrorism is blamed, and then disappears himself. His protege is called in to help uncover what happened. »

Altitude spies Spooks film

Afm slate also includes Brit-List sci-fi The Call-Up, horror The Last Word and a documentary about alt-rock band Pulp.

Altitude Film Sales is to bring five market debuts to the American Film Market (Afm) next week, including spy-thriller Spooks: The Greater Good - a feature version of the BAFTA-winning BBC TV series that ran for 10 series from 2002 to 2011.

Bharat Nalluri, who was the originating director of the TV series (known as Mi-5 in the Us), will take the reins of the feature that will shoot in the first quarter of 2014.

The film opens when terrorist Adam Qasim escapes from MI5 custody during a routine handover and head of counterterrorism, Harry Pearce, is blamed.

When the disgraced Pearce disappears one night off a bridge into the Thames, his protégé Will Crombie is called in to help uncover what happened. With a devastating attack on London imminent, Will finds himself on the trail of a conspiracy that stretches »

Mike Doyle, Erin Cummings, and Sean Patrick Flanery have all nabbed themselves lead roles in The Last Word, a paranormal thriller being directed by Simon Rumley (Red White & Blue). If you're unfamiliar with this eerie and true story, man, you need to right that wrong Asap!

A7SLE Films principals Peter Facinelli and Rob DeFranco, along with Eric Gores and Frank Mancuso Jr. of Boss Media, are producing the project, which began shooting in Shreveport, La., this week. Mike Doyle, Erin Cummings and Sean Patrick Flanery are set to star in Simon Rumley's paranormal thriller "The Last Word" for A7SLE Films.

Inspired by true events, Ben Ketai penned the script which follows what happens after a young man in Texas is wrongly convicted for the rape and murder of a nun.

Cursing those who sent him to his death, the people involved in the case, from witnesses to jurors, suddenly start dying. The father (Doyle) of one juror sets out to prove the truth about the murder.

Flanery will portray the district attorney, Cummings will play Doyle's wife. Peter Facinelli, Rob DeFranco, Eric Gores and Frank Mancuso Jr. will produce.

Filming begins in Shreveport, Louisiana this week.

Exclusive: WWE Studios and Anchor Bay Films has acquired distribution rights in North America, the United Kingdom and Australia/New Zealand to Road To Paloma, the directorial debut of Jason Momoa. Momoa played the title role in Conan The Barbarian, and was last seen playing Khal Drogo in HBO’s Game Of Thrones. Road To Paloma will be released in the U.S. later this year. It was financed and produced by Boss-Media’s Eric Gores and Frank Mancuso Jr., who are exec producers. FilmDistrict has acquired screenwriter Ben Ketai's script The Last Word for distribution.

The horror-thriller, based on actual events, is set during the aftermath of a Texas murder trial, where a young man was wrongly convicted and executed for the rape and murder of a nun. The story follows the tragic consequences of those who participated in the trial. Here's what producer Frank Mancuso Jr. had to say in a statement.

"'Based on a true story has been overused as a marketing ploy however this film will scorch an indelible imprint on those who see it. The powerful words of this dying man will never be forgotten."

Eric Gores, Peter Facinelli, and Rob DeFranco will produce through their A7SLE Films company, alongside Frank Mancuso Jr.'s Boss Media. Peter Schlessel and Lia Buman will produce for FilmDistrict.
