The handlers of deceased Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera‘s business affairs have filed a lawsuit against Univision, claiming that the network is wrongfully using confidential information for its new series about the singer. In the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, Jenni Rivera Enterprises claims that the series, “Her Name Was Dolores: The Jen That I Knew” draws from information that Rivera’s on-and-off business manager, Pete Salgado, agreed to keep confidential. “Salgado held himself out as someone who Ms. Rivera, her family and could and should trust and rely upon,” the suit states. “Unfortunately, Salgado chose. »

Sofia Vergara, media entrepreneur and star of ABC’s “Modern Family,” together with her longtime business partner Luis Balaguer and Emiliano Calemzuk, former president of Fox Television Studios, have formed Raze: a digital media company dedicated to producing “Latin-centered” content spanning scripted and unscripted formats on multiple platforms.
UTA and entertainment law firm Ziffren Brittenham Llp are founding partners and advisers for the Beverly Hills-based startup. Raze has closed a round of Series A funding from UTA, Greycroft Partners and Raine Ventures. With the investments, Brent Weinstein, partner and head of digital media at UTA, and Greycroft partner Mark Terbeek have joined the board of Raze.

The intensely private Latin American recording artist Luis Miguel will have not one but two TV series based on his life coming to screens soon now that dueling projects are in the works at Univision and MGM.
Spanish-language broadcaster Univision announced during the Natpe conference in Miami that it is developing a new series based on the multi-Grammy-winning singer’s life with producer Pedro Torres, who has collaborated with Miguel for the past 30 years on his music videos. Torres will serve as an executive producer through his company, Curiosity Media Group.
In November, MGM TV president Mark Burnett announced that Gato Grande Productions, MGM TV’s new joint venture with Mexican entrepreneurs Miguel Aleman and Antonio Cue, had secured exclusive life rights to Miguel and that the bio-series on Miguel would be its maiden project.
