Showtime sets June 24th at 10 p.m. for Oscar-winner The Help TV premiere It's hard to believe that the Tate Taylor-directed Help will already celebrate its first birthday on August 10th, and find release on TV via Showtime a mere 2 months before. Adapted by Taylor from the novel by Kathryn Stockett, the drama which won an Academy Awardf for Octavia Spencer in a Best Supporting Role, stars Viola Davis, Emma Stone, Bryce Dallas Howard, Mike Vogel, Sissy Spacek, Allison Janey, Chris Lowell, Ahna O'Reilly, Anna Camp, Jessica Chastain and Aunjanue Ellis. Pic grossed a massive $169.7 million domestically, and over $41.9 million overseas, and is produced by Chris Columbus and Brunson Green. Set in Mississippi during the 1960s, The Help stars Emma Stone as Skeeter, a southern society girl who returns from college determined to become a writer, but turns her friends’ lives—and a small Mississippi town—upside down when she decides. »

Jason Reitman Debuts His 'Live Read' Series In NYC With 'The Apartment' Starring Paul Rudd & Emma Stone

28 April 2012 1:16 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

It was a magical evening at the New York Times Center last night for those lucky enough to be in attendance, for at long last, Jason Reitman brought his “Live Read” Series to NYC. The series began about six months ago when the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Lacma) asked Reitman if he had any ideas for programs. His idea was a simple one: to stage readings of classic screenplays live on stage, one time only for an audience of a few hundred people. As he told the NY Times recently, “I’d done table reads for my own screenplays, and I always thought they were so much fun. [So I thought], ‘Why couldn’t we do these for other classic screenplays and bring them to life?’ You can experience live theater, where you get to see plays produced by different directors and different casts, but there’s really nothing like that for movie scripts. »

Emma Stone embraced the warm weather in NYC Saturday by strolling around the city in floral shorts. She didn't have the company of boyfriend Andrew Garfield, who's busy starring in Broadway's Death of a Salesman, on the walk. Instead, Emma made the rounds with her costar from The Help, Chris Lowell. The duo met up for lunch at Gemma inside the Bowery Hotel. Emma and Andrew are currently together in the Big Apple, sharing an apartment before embarking on the press rounds. Their The Amazing Spider-Man is out across the country on July 3. How About Oscar Ceremony Back in Spring?

14 March 2012 4:09 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Jean Dujardin Perhaps I'm the only person on the planet who thinks that the Academy Awards ceremony should once again be held in late March or early April. I believe that would have several advantages. (Photo: Richard D. Salyer / ©A.M.P.A.S.) For instance, the Oscars would no longer be just one more awards ceremony during the frenzied awards season; instead, it would have its own slot, far apart from the "lesser" ceremonies preceding it. Just as importantly, by having the Oscars stand apart from awards-season madness, favorites could lose their momentum weeks before Oscar ballots would be due (whether by mail or via online voting) — which theoretically might mean more frequent surprises. And finally, a later date would give Academy members more time to watch, consider, rewatch, reconsider the usual 35-45 nominated movies — or any of each year's 250+ eligible movies, as an Oscar ceremony in the spring »
