Comedy Central renews 'Review' for season 2

9 June 2014 12:00 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

I thought the best part of interviewing Andy Daly in Austin over the weekend would be getting a chance to witness the star of Comedy Central's "Review" channeling his fictional alter ego Forrest MacNeil and eating pancakes, as he did in the year's funniest half-hour of television. But though pancakes were, in fact, consumed (in the interests of accuracy, I should say that Daly ordered the short stack — albeit what turned out to be a Texas-sized short stack — and ate much, but not all, of it), the most exciting part of the interview was the news that Comedy Central was days away from announcing that "Review" (which had ended on a brilliant, but seemingly final, note) would return for a second season. (In that same announcement, Comedy Central also renewed "Inside Amy Schumer" and the animated series "TripTank," as well as greenlighting two new series: "Another Period," starring Riki Lindhome »

On the Scene: Seth Rogen's Hilarity for Charity benefit

Alzheimer’s? The worst. Seth Rogen, wife Lauren Miller, and their crew of charity-loving comedians getting together for an Alzheimer’s research benefit? The best.

Miller’s own mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at age 55, which inspired Miller and her husband to find a way to educate more people about the disease. They created Hilarity for Charity to bring Alzheimer’s awareness to younger crowds, and, more concretely, to fund Alzheimer’s research and donate resources to families struggling with it. Though Hilarity for Charity has already hosted multiple events in Los Angeles, Monday night marked its first New York benefit. »

Maladies – The Review

19 March 2014 3:45 PM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Perhaps Natasha Leggero said it best on Comedy Central’s Roast, when attempting to explain James Franco’s choice in artistic endeavors…

First I was wondering why James Franco would do this roast, and then I saw Spring Breakers and I was like, “Oh! He’ll do anything!”

Being fully aware I was choosing to watch a film starring James Franco, I was entirely unprepared for what I was getting into, which is a conundrum commonly associated with watching anything starring James Franco.

Maladies is written and directed by multimedia artist Carter. This is Carter’s first feature-length film. Combining the quirkiness of Spike Jonze — but more mellow — and complex philosophical musings like those of Charlie Kaufman — but less dizzying — Maladies manages first to catch me off guard, then just as my interest slowly begins to dwindle I am captured in a random moment of realization that I am enjoying the film. »

Update: Will MSNBC’s Host Apology Streak End As Mitt Romney Accepts Latest Mea Culpa?

2Nd Update, 8:20 Am: Will cable news programs steer clear of comedy after MSNBC‘s botched Melissa Harris-Perry end-of-year show left her tearily apologizing for the show’s gags targeting Mitt Romney‘s adopted black grandson, and Fox News Channel devoting yet more airtime to MSNBC’s show host foot-in-mouth epidemic? Most recently, Romney was a guest on Fox News this past Sunday, in the course of which, during a segment known as “Romney Reacts To MSNBC For Mocking Family Photo”, he told Chris Wallace, “I recognize that people make mistakes and the folks at MSNBC made a big mistake. They’ve apologized for it. That’s all you can ask for. I am going to move on from that.
