MSNBC’s Re-Do Will Make it Look More Like NBC News Channel

17 September 2015 10:39 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

When MSNBC viewers tune in to the network next week during daytime hours, they might not be faulted for thinking they’re watching a longer “special report” from NBC News.

On camera will be veterans like Andrea Mitchell and Brian Williams, “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd and Kate Snow, just named anchor of the Sunday edition of “NBC Nightly News.” Behind the scenes: Pat Burkey, who has been executive producer of the weekday edition of  “Nightly” for the past four years, will take over leadership of MSNBC’s afternoon coverage. And Izzy Povich, who like Burkey, was working at MSNBC when it launched in 1996 and was focused more on breaking-news coverage and less on a progressive take on the stories of the moment, will move to run morning coverage. Mark Lukasiewicz, a senior vice president of specials at NBC News, was named to coordinate coverage between NBC and MSNBC during big, »

MSNBC president Phil Griffin on Friday informed staffers that he is cancelling three afternoon programs: roundtable discussion show The Cycle as well as Now With Alex Wagner and The Ed Show, hosted by Ed Schultz. Friday, July 31, will be the final show for all three. Schultz and Cycle hosts Krystal Ball, Abby Huntsman and Toure will leave the network, while Wagner will stay on to cover the 2016 presidential election. Meanwhile, Chuck Todd, who earlier this year was made host of Meet the Press, will host a daily program at 5 p.m. Major changes have been expected across MSNBC's dayside

MSNBC Spikes Three Hours of Afternoon Lineup

30 July 2015 3:04 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

MSNBC is canceling three more hours of daytime programming as it works to rechristen itself as a place for hard news, not progressive views, in the hours leading up to the early evening.

Gone are “The Cycle,” “Now With Alex Wagner” and “The Ed Show” as of Friday, MSNBC president Phil Griffin told network staffers in a memo Thursday. Wagner is expected to stay with MSNBC and cover the politics beat as coverage of the 2016 election increases. Ari Melber of “The Cycle” will continue as the network’s chief legal correspondent. Other hosts — Ed Schultz, Krystal Ball, Abby Huntsman and Toure — will leave the network, Griffin said.

In February the network spiked programs anchored by Ronan Farrow and Joy Reid in favor of a headlines-driven two-hour chunk led by Thomas Roberts.

A new program hosted by “Meet the Press” anchor Chuck Todd, which has yet to be named, will replace “The Ed Show” at 5 p. »

MSNBC Decides: Touré Is Out, Rev. Al Stays (For Now)

24 July 2015 5:20 AM, PDT | ShadowAndAct | See recent ShadowAndAct news »

It was just Wednesday when I reported on some big possible changes coming to MSNBC to improve its sinking ratings. Last time it was rumored that "The Ed Show" with Ed Schultz, "All In with Chris Hayes" and "PoliticsNation" with Rev. Al Sharpton were on the chopping black, and that Keith Olbermann could possibly return to the network, despite some network execs’ apprehensive fears. Well it’s now being reported, by various news sources, that the network has decided what to do: "The Ed Show" will be cancelled, along with their afternoon shows, "Now with Alex Wagner" and MSNBC’s rather lame attempt to be all hip and trendy to »

The plan is to replace "The Ed Show" with a new show anchored by current "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd, who previously had an early. »
