The Notable Films of 2010: Part Six

27 December 2009 10:09 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

The Last Airbender

Opens: July 2nd 2010

Cast: Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone, Dev Patel

Director: M. Night Shyamalan

Summary: A live-action film based on the Nickelodeon animated TV series. In a fantastic world where civilisation exists as four great empires, a reluctant young child sets out on a perilous journey to restore balance to a world torn apart by war.

Analysis: It has been quite the decade for M. Night Shyamalan, who started it as a household name with the label of a modern-day Hitchcock thanks to the likes of "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs". Today he's considered more of a one-trick pony and in some cases a punchline due to rampant stories of egomania run wild and a series of much derided onscreen flops like "Lady in the Water" and "The Happening".

Thus 'Airbender' marks a potential return to form for the helmer. An adaptation of the hit »

New 'Kick-Ass' Trailer, Soundboard And Widget

22 December 2009 2:29 PM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

The last few weeks have included quite a few holiday gifts for anyone eager to check out "Kick-Ass," Matthew Vaughn's upcoming adaptation of John Romita Jr. and Mark Millar's comic book series. And now, to go along with the awesome posters and trailers that have hit the 'Net this month, there's also a new, red-band (and depending on where you work, likely Nsfw) "Kick-Ass" clip.

The new footage debuted as part of an exclusive "Kick-Ass" widget on IGN, and puts the spotlight on Hit-Girl, the pint-size assassin played by Chloe Moretz. As fans of the series are already aware, the character drops f-bombs and other obscenities as easily as she eviscerates, decapitates and ventilates any bad guys who get in her way.

The footage is fairly brutal, but — and I might be alone in thinking this — it's brutal in the best possible way. In fact, the trailer's likely »

Sneak Peek the new red band trailer featuring 'Hit-Girl' from director Matthew "Layer Cake" Vaughn's upcoming feature "Kick-Ass".

Lionsgate will release the film in North America April 16, 2010 with Focus Features Intl. distributing throughout the UK, Australia, Germany, Latin America, Austria, Switzerland and New Zealand.

The film stars Nicolas Cage, Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Mark Strong.

Vaughn’s Marv Films independently financed the action feature, co-produced by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner for Plan B.

Premise of "Kick-Ass" follows 'Dave Lizewski', a New York City high school student and only child of single father 'Greg Willer'. Dave takes an interest in comic books as his inspiration to become a vigilante hero, assembling a suit and mask, worn under his normal clothing.

His first attempt at fighting crime results in a beating and stabbing, followed by wandering through the streets and being hit by a car. But »

‘Kick-Ass’ Red Band Trailer Focuses on Hit Girl

22 December 2009 8:00 AM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

The marketing for April’s Kick-Ass has been in full force as of late. Since the release of the trailer over a month ago, the posters have been rolling out on a regular basis, with a new twist to the marketing plan. That new angle is giving focus to each of the other crime fighters in the film, who may or may not actually be all that good.

This is an interesting take on the film, seeing as how the titular character, Kick-Ass, is the main protagonist in the original comic series by Mark Millar. Either way, in the newest red band trailer, we get a few new scenes with Chloe Moretz as Hit-Girl, Nic Cage as Big Daddy, and of course Aaron Johnson.

Check out the new Nsfw trailer after the jump, which only makes this movie look even better, and expect to see more new footage from Matthew Vaughn »

New Red Band Kick-Ass Clip Features Hit Girl

22 December 2009 1:44 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

If the idea of a 10-year-old girl with no superpowers fighting crime sounds ridiculous to you, reserve judgment until you see Hit Girl in action in this new Rated-r clip for Kick-Ass, director Matthew Vaughn's big screen adaptation of the comic book by Mark Millar. Not only does Hit Girl (played by Chloe Moretz) have mad hand-to-hand combat skills and a talent for gunplay, her dirty mouth is also powerful enough to make a sailor blush. Hit Girl may just dethrone Gogo Yubari (Chiaki Kuriyama), the chain-wielding school girl/assassin from Kill Bill, as the baddest girl at the Cineplex.

Kick-Ass also stars Aaron Johnson as Dave "Kick-Ass" Lizewski, Nicolas Cage as Damon "Big Daddy" Macready, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Chris "Red Mist" D'Amico.

Kick-ass Hit Girl Red Band Clip/Trailer Thing!

21 December 2009 9:08 PM, PST | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

The more I see of Kick-ass (coming this April from Matthew Vaugh), the better this flick looks! The film screen last weekend at AICN’s Butt-numb-athon (to celebrate the birthday of Eic Harry Knowles) and the reception was phenomenal. Devin Faraci from Chud even hailed it as “the single best Western action film [he's] seen in decades” and that is enough for me to see this film the first chance I get!

What we got today, was a new Red Band trailer/clip featuring the young Hit Girl (apparently played wonderfully by Chloe Moretz) in which we get a glimpse of the joyous visceral action that she is involved in. Her father in the film, Big Daddy (played by Nicolas Cage) has trained her to be an assasin and “kill the bad guys.” If this is what we are looking forward to, then count me 150% in!!

Thanks to Empire for providing the embedded clip! »

Red-Band Kick-Ass Trailer Shows Off Hit Girl's Moves

21 December 2009 8:33 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

When selected scenes from Kick-Ass blew everyones minds at Comic Con, a huge part of the appeal was Hit Girl, the 11-year-old assassin played by Chloe Moretz. She shoots guns and does somersaults and kicks as well as any imaginable superhero-- and she happens to be in middle school as well. Most of the marketing for Kick-Ass, which comes out next spring, has focused on green-band stuff, and that's understandable-- they need as wide an audience as possible. But this hard-r movie deserves to be able to show off its true goods, and that's exactly what you get in the new red-band trailer, which shows off Hit Girl's way with a gun and a swear word to boot. If you haven't seen any of the red band footage so far, it's the only way your can truly understand the wonder that Kick-Ass has in store. Check it out: »

Red-Band Trailer for Kick-ass Featuring Chloe Moretz as Hit-Girl

21 December 2009 6:35 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

A new red-band trailer for Kick-Ass has come online and it shows off the delightful insanity folks are talking about when they mention Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming superhero action flick.  The film centers on regular people who dress up in costumes and fight crime and make a bloody, highly-entertaining mess of things.

While she’s a supporting character, it’s clear the film is going to get a lot of mileage selling Chloe Moretz as the 11-year-old “Hit-Girl” who, as seen in this trailer, tears shit up.  I don’t want to spoil anything because it’s just looks so damn awesome.  Hit the jump, check it out (plus a synopsis), and remember that the film hits theaters on April 16, 2010.

The trailer embed comes courtesy of Empire.

For those just tuning in, here’s a brief synopsis:

A twisted, funny, high-octane adventure, director Matthew Vaughn brings Kick-ass to the big screen. »

New Hit-Girl Red Band Trailer For Kick-Ass

I guess this trailer will just speak for itself - the latest clip promoting next year's Kick-Ass, the story of a teenager who gets in over his head when he decides to become a super hero, has been getting nothing but rave reviews from those that have seen it. It reminds me a bit of Shoot 'Em Up from a couple of years ago. If it's anything like that movie, I know I'll like it. The clip is all Hit-Girl, showing off her deadly moves with a sword gun and whatever else is lying around. The clip is bloody, violent and rated 'R', which means if you're under 17 you should make sure your parents aren't around before watching it. Kick Ass Red Band Hit Girl trailer

21 December 2009 5:52 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

After the character posters for Kick-Ass come the character trailers, and it's a case of Last In, First Out as Hit Girl becomes the star of the opening effort. It's of immediate interest that this is a Red Band trailer, complete with extreme profanity and explicit acts of violence, both of which are being doled out by a little girl. Watch it after the break, but be warned that it is most definitely Nsfw. Hit Girl aka Mindy Macready is being played by Chloe Moretz. Seeing as she's now about to turn 13 I think she's going to be growing up so rapidly over the coming year or two that I hope Mark Millar's promise of a Kick-Ass follow-up can be put into action quickly. Either that or they somehow displace the chronology in the narrative appropriately to allow for her aging. I know it's not his responsibility as a »
