Believe it or not, on a list of recognizable actors Joel Moore, who has landed the other male lead in Jewtopia has to rank somewhere near the top of the list.

People started paying attention to him as a member of Vince Vaughn’s team in comedy Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. Furthermore, Moore made his career of playing either geeks or the main character’s best friend in favorites as Grandma’s Boy and Hatchet. Of course, he didn’t miss the opportunity to lay out the fact he has a major role in the highest grossing film of all time as Norm Spellman, Avatar driver and colleague of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington). Moor also portrayed favorite lab technician, permanently sad inside Colin Fisher, on the Fox’s Bones.

Casting Bits: Holt McCallany in ‘Gangster Squad’, Julia Stiles and America Ferrera in ‘It’s a Disaster’, Dennis Quaid in ‘What to Expect’, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Ivan Sergei in ‘Jewtopia’

19 July 2011 12:00 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

[1] Last season, FX's boxing drama Lights Out entered the canon of brilliant-but-cancelled television series, when piss-poor ratings brought about its demise despite plenty of critical love. Thankfully, things seem to be working out better for the series' acclaimed star, Holt McCallany, than they did for the show. The actor is now in talks for Gangster Squad, Ruben Fleischer's highly anticipated (well, by us) period cop drama. McCallany would be joining an absolutely top-notch cast which already includes Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Anthony Mackie, Michael Peña, and Giovanni Ribisi, with Bryan Cranston in negotiations [2]. How can you not get excited with a cast like that? Based on a series of articles by Paul Lieberman, Gangster Squad tells the story of an Lapd task force which was formed to fight organized crime and corruption in 1940s Los Angeles. Gosling, Brolin, Mackie, and Cranston will be on the Lapd side »

Ghost Whisperer actor to play Jewish love interest of gentile man in screen adaptation of hit Broadway comedy

The popular American stage play Jewtopia will be turned into a feature film starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, it has been announced.

Jewtopia, written by Bryan Fogel and Sam Wolfson, is a comedy about two twentysomething men, one gentile and one Jewish, who both want to date women from each other's religion.

The play originally opened in La in 2003, with Fogel and Wolfson in the two lead roles. It then went on to a successful off-Broadway run, closing in 2007 after three and a half years.

Fogel and Wolfson also published a book, Jewtopia: The Chosen Book for the Chosen People, boasting in the blurb that "owning a copy ensures that Elijah himself will show up at your Passover Seder!"

Jennifer Love Hewitt In Jewtopia

15 July 2011 7:54 AM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

Jewtopia may have began as a bestselling book, but an adaptation of the same name is headed to theaters with actress Jennifer Love Hewitt in a starring role. Her hot co-star is Crossing Jordan alumnus Ivan Sergei. Gee, and we thought the former Ghost Whisperer might be tied up on television’s Law & Order: Svu.

Jewtopia is described as a little bit Wedding Crashers and a little bit My Big Fat Greek Wedding. That formula sounds like a winner. The indie romance follows two childhood best friends as they reunite as adults. The plot thickens when Sergei’s character asks the female friend “to help him pretend to be Jewish so he can romance a woman,” reported Variety. Ah ha! That also sounds very My Best Friend’s Wedding, which is another winning ingredient. Sergei’s character is a plumber after a certain nice, if not bossy Jewish girl, portrayed by Hewitt. »
