Espn’s Talent Twist: Will Loss of Big Voices Hurt Sports Juggernaut’s Game?

Espn’s Talent Twist: Will Loss of Big Voices Hurt Sports Juggernaut’s Game?
If the New York Yankees jettisoned Brett Gardner, Alex Rodriguez and Chase Headley from the team’s roster, fans would likely revolt. What will viewers do now that Espn has cut ties with three of its most singular voices?

It’s no secret that Espn has been bearing down on costs recently. While the Walt Disney-owned sports-media outlet is said to have bid aggressively –and subsequently failed – to keep radio host Colin Cowherd on board, it let both Keith Olbermann and Bill Simmons go in decisions that have been framed as ones made with its business in mind. Olbermann’s ESPN2 program wasn’t nabbing the viewers the company needed. And Simmons, despite leading a new sports-and-culture site called “Grantland” and developing into one of the most distinctive sports voices of a generation during his time at Espn, wasn’t going to add as much value through future endeavors as Espn might like,

Monday Mix-Up: Espn does “The Princess Bride”

  • Comicmix
On the November 9 episode of Espn NFL Kickoff, hosts Trey Wingo, Mark Schlereth, and Tedy Bruschi, all decided to have some fun. Apparently one of the hosts decided to make a reference to The Princess Bride, and then the hosts competed to jam as many references into a half-hour show as possible.

Here’s a video of most of them.

And here’s an interview with the anchors telling how it all came about.

Watch Espn Sportcasters Quote The Princess Bride Like Megafans

Though upon its initial release Rob Reiner's The Princess Bride was only a modest box office success, the 1987 feature that blended fantasy, romance, adventure and comedy has become an unadulterated cult hit. In the '90s a slumber party wasn't complete without a VHS copy of the beloved tale of Westley and Buttercup, and today you can and will be roundly scorned by friends for not recognizing it's many, many quotable lines should they roll into conversation, which is inevitable. Still, it was a pleasant surprise to find that Espn's NFL Kickoff hosts Trey Wingo, Mark Schlereth, and Tedy Bruschi can be counted among the ardent fans of Princess Bride, as they showed in force on Sunday night's show. Over the course of a half hour, the trio dropped such notable quotables as "Life is pain; anyone who says differently is selling something," and "it's not his fault he's

Watch: How Many 'Princess Bride' References Can Espn Hosts Make in 30 Minutes?

Trey Wingo, Mark Sclereth and Tedy Bruschi are the hosts/analysts of Espn's NFL Kick Off, and they live and breathe football. But being professional jocks doesn't mean they can't also appreciate grand romance and adventure. They're apparently huge fans of The Princess Bride, and the trio recently filled their show with as many references to Rob Reiner's classic film as possible. Your NFL Week 13 Recap, in the form of stupid pictures: Browns 13, Dolphins 10 Miami’s playoff hopes are looking slim after this loss, though on the plus side, receiver Davone Bess finally perfected his Yoga Flame: Bears 24, Lions 20 The Bears needed a late comeback and another questionable call to surpass Detroit on the road, but regardless, they’re now celebrating a 5-game win streak: I’m getting VH1′s money out of that bear pic, con sarnit… Steelers 13, Ravens 10 The Steelers forced a timely fumble to grab a late comeback win, though Ben Roethlisberger’s postgame jubilation was short-lived: Packers 34, 49ers 16 The Packers played this game in their 1929 throwback unis, which was cool: What wasn’t cool: The Packers also forced their players to wear leather helmets and only allowed whites to play. 'The View's' Elisabeth Hasselbeck rocks 'NFL Live,' 'SportsCenter'

We thoroughly enjoyed "The View" co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck on her turn on "NFL Live" Tuesday (Jan. 19).

We realize the men of Espn's "NFL Live," Trey Wingo and Tedy Bruschi, were not exactly pelting Hasselbeck with tough analysis questions, but they weren't just lobbing her softballs either.

Some highlights include when Hasselbeck was asked to weigh in on new Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey and the fact that his job was a tough one to fill. Hasselbeck remarked:

In this economy, if a job been open that long, you gotta wonder about the job. Every single person [approached to be] on that staff is going to be having this conversation with their wife and family, "Hey, we're going to a team. It's in a really tough division. We're going to play the Patriots twice. We're going to see Miami twice. They don't have a really good market and the weather's kinda bad. What
