20 minutes in to Red Eye, a foot chase through Heathrow airport ends with a man making an impassioned plea outside a branch of Leon. He vaults over barriers like the kid in Love Actually and implores the crowd to film his testimony. Rightly wary of flash mob marriage proposals, the British holiday-going public are slow to act but get his message out: vascular surgeon Dr Matthew Nolan is being framed for murder and extradited to Beijing.
Is Nolan (Richard Armitage) guilty, or on the level? Is he being sacrificed by the British government to protect a valuable Chinese nuclear power deal, or is there a deeper conspiracy at work? DC Hana Li (Jing Lusi), the no-nonsense cop tasked with escorting Nolan on Flight 357, has six episodes to find out.

Crazy Rich Asians star Jing Lusi and Richard Armitage are leading an ITV drama about an all-night plane flight from London to Beijing and the corridors of power within Whitehall.
Lesley Sharp is also set for Bad Wolf’s Red Eye, which is the debut TV project from Flightplan writer Peter A. Dowling.
The show will air on Itvx in 2024. After attending a medical conference in Beijing and coming frighteningly close to dying in a car crash, Dr Matthew Nolan, played by Armitage arrives home and is immediately arrested at London’s Heathrow Airport. Exhausted and confused, Nolan is accused of the murder of a woman who was in the car he crashed. DC Hana Li, played by Lusi, is the no-nonsense, London officer charged with accompanying Nolan back to Beijing, but plenty happens on the way.

Horror movies like Deep Fear take place underground, and they are often the most effective as far as compelling scares go. They evoke a fear that everyone can understand. Trap someone in a confined, dark space below ground, then have them be pursued by someone (or something) — it’s a simple but winning formula.
Screambox‘s latest release Deep Fear, as well as the nine other movies below, reinforce feelings of claustrophobia and remind you of what possible evils could be hiding below the surface. As Above, So Below, The Descent, C.H.U.D., Creep and The Midnight Meat Train are all familiar examples of this subgenre, but this list focuses on underseen movies set underground.

This reflects gains for women in the important roles of director, department heads, and women of color leads and co-leads. With an aim to increase the number of women of all backgrounds working in film, TV, and media, the ReFrame Stamp, which is showcased in end credits and appears on IMDb, serves as a mark of distinction for projects that have demonstrated success in gender-balanced hiring. Additional points are awarded to content that has women of color in key positions.

“Gentleman Jack” and “Doctor Foster” star Suranne Jones is to take the lead in “Vigil,” a nuclear submarine thriller for the BBC from World Productions, the makers of “Line of Duty” and “Bodyguard.”
“Vigil” is written and created by Tom Edge, who penned Judy Garland biopic “Judy,” with episodes by Ed Macdonald, whose credits include “The End of The F***ing World,” and “Dublin Murders” writer Chandni Lakhani.
The drama will be directed by James Strong, who has helmed “Broadchurch” and “Vanity Fair” and Isabelle Sieb, whose credits include “Shetland.”
“Vigil” is about the mysterious disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler and a death onboard a Trident nuclear submarine, which brings the police into conflict with the Navy and British security services. Dci Amy Silva, played by Suranne Jones, leads an investigation on land and at sea into a conspiracy that threatens the very heart of Britain’s nuclear deterrent.

The Clown Prince of Crime and the Mistress of Evil will duke it out at the box office for the No. 1 spot this weekend, with “Joker” estimated to take in about $19 million in its fourth weekend while “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” is projected to earn about $18.3 million in its second frame.
“Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” took in about $4.82 million on Friday while “Joker” yielded $5.4 million, hinting that “Joker” may end up the winner.
The gritty drama starring Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role has so far totaled $258 million domestically for Warner Bros. with an additional $512 million overseas. Todd Philipps directed “Joker,” which garnered controversy ahead of its release for its sympathetic depiction of the villain, from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver. Zazie Beetz, Robert De Niro, and Frances Conroy also star. It recently passed “Deadpool 2” as the highest-grossing R-rated movie worldwide, and should surpass $800 million this weekend.

Swiftly following his suspenseful home invasion thriller, The Intruder, director Deon Taylor delivers Black & Blue: a chase and evade, corrupt cop action flick that’s pithy but by-the-numbers due to flat characters, slack execution and a banal central concept, yet is bolstered slightly by a well-paced plot.
The set up introduces Naomi Harris’ rookie cop Alicia, who is accosted by racist police officers while out on a morning jog. This opening suggests a compelling drama with substantial issues is about to unfurl, but these themes are soon supressed as the story curtails into clichéd urban crime thriller terrain with a double-crossing cop plot.
Alicia accidentally films a murder on her body camera and is then hunted by the killers who want the footage before she can share it. What follows is a fast and flawed action/chase confrontation that repeatedly derails then re-finds its feet to potter on perfunctorily before stumbling once again.

It’s kind of funny that, just a few years ago, Frank Grillo was in “The Purge: Anarchy,” in which he struggled to survive the night against morally corrupt civilians with a 12-hour license to kill, and now he’s playing a cop tripping off a limitless authority to murder in “Black and Blue.” It’s this same professional-pedestrian throughline to violence that is a major theme in this prosaic police drama from director Deon Taylor (“The Intruder”).
Corrupt cop narratives aren’t exactly fresh on screen, and Taylor’s film doesn’t shy away from blatant callbacks to other more innovative entries in the genre. For instance, composer Geoff Zanelli (“Traffik”) uses a piece that recalls the thunderous “Sicario” score, while Taylor and screenwriter Peter A. Dowling (“Flightplan”) borrow from the classic bloody bathtub scene from “Training Day.”
But Taylor tries to do the now-inevitable filmmaker exercise of infusing...

The final weekend of October will be a quiet one at the box office. Between the release of “Zombieland” and “Maleficent” sequels last weekend, the continued success of “Joker,” and a crowded November release slate starting with a new “Terminator,” the major studios are mostly sitting out of this weekend.
But one film that will be released wide this Friday comes with a very long and turbulent road to theaters. “The Current War,” Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s biopic about the corporate battle over America’s first electric grid, will finally be released after it was dropped by the now-defunct Weinstein Company.
“The Current War” was originally set for release in November 2017 after receiving poor reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival, but was pulled from release after Harvey Weinstein’s sexual assault accusations came to light. The film was picked up by Lantern Capital, who bought The Weinstein Company’s assets...

"Be the change, asshole."
It's this phrase muttered by Naomie Harris' character in Black and Blue that presided over the red carpet of a special screening of the film in New York on Monday night. While neither director Deon Taylor nor the movie's scribe Peter A. Dowling coined the expression — which is derived from the platitude "Be the change you wish to see in the world," which Gandhi may or may not have actually said — it was used to explain the film's central theme by nearly everyone in attendance.

Question: If you’re a cop movie coasting on a dynamic central performance, how fast do you need to move to hide the fact that plot-wise, you’re little more than a bargain-basement Training Day? The reliably terrific Naomie Harris — Miss Moneypenny in the last three Bond films and a knockout as the junkie mom in the Oscar-winning Moonlight — stars as Alicia West, a rookie African-American police officer working her first three weeks on the beat in New Orleans. We first meet this army veteran, who has a tour of...

A timely yet undercooked action-thriller about police corruption and racism, “Black and Blue” cuts to the chase from its very first, promising sequence. Along the beats of Lecrae’s social injustice-themed “Welcome to America,” Alicia West (Naomie Harris) jogs through the middle-class streets of a suburban New Orleans neighborhood, only to be stopped and harassed by a pair of suspicious white cops, interrogating her with excessive force for no reason. It’s not long before the cops realize that “she is a blue,” a part of their team, and let her go; though with palpable arrogance. It’s clear that they would face no consequences, even after illegally slamming one of their own against a fence. Their privilege happens to be standard operating procedure.
It’s a powerful scene, all too real in today’s world where amateur cell phone videos of similar or worse cases of police brutality continue to go viral.

Sacrifice is a strange film. Director Peter A. Dowling treats his audience as if they’d already read author Sharon Bolton’s source novelization, and know exactly what’s going to happen. As soon as Sacrifice rockets straight through a rapid-fire credits sequence filled with foreshadowing images, we know the Exact movie we’re getting. Nothing is hidden and tension is sparse.
It’s almost as if Dowling has his thumb on the fast-forward button, speeding his film towards an inevitable ending that’s projected more times than we can count. No mystery, no suspense, and certainly no thrills – just wooden, cult generalizations and wasted potential.
Radha Mitchell stars as Dr. Tora Hamilton, a wife who cannot give birth due to recent health complications. Distraught and discouraged, Tora travels to her husband Duncan’s (Rupert Graves) homeland – the Shetland Islands – where they apply to adopt a local child. Since there...

Bodies of mutilated women, children in peril, distraught mothers and mysterious sects are ripe fodder for horror films, and are tropes that writer and directors return to frequently. As such, with this ground being tred frequently, it's hard to come up with a concept or perspective that is original, or at least compelling. Such is the case with Sacrifice; director and writer Peter A. Dowling (who wrote Flight Plan) has created a combination of The Stepford Wives and Rosemary's Baby, with the locale and twisted religious rites of The Wicker Man thrown in. The result is a film that's neither great nor terrible; treading old paths can be comforting, but the end result is relatively forgettable. After several miscarriages, Dr. Tora Hamilton (Radha Mitchell) and...

Fast-paced but insipidly dull, Reasonable Doubt is thriller-lite, not quite capable of mounting enough tension to make its brisk 91-minute runtime bearable, and certainly not skilled enough to make any of its twists remotely surprising. It’s never been a prerequisite in Hollywood for a movie to showcase originality, but one of the most irritating things about Reasonable Doubt is that it doesn’t even do well what’s been done before. Aside from its talented cast (all of whom could do much, much better), there’s nothing to make this movie really worth your time.
The plot follows Mitch Brockton (Dominic Cooper), an up-and-coming District Attorney who lives a charmed life. He’s a star in the courtroom, with enough charisma to make any jury hang on his every word, a loving family man with a beautiful wife (Erin Karpluk) and newborn daughter, and even always the most popular guy at the office.

This is the trailer for a new thriller called Reasonable Doubt, which stars Samuel L. Jackson and Dominic Cooper. I wasn't sure what to expect from this, but it looks like an intensely entertaining movie. I do have to say that the trailer reveals way to much information. It would have been nice to leave some of the twists and suspense a secret. It still looks good though!
Up-and-coming District Attorney Mitch Brockden commits a fatal hit-and-run and feels compelled to throw the case against the accused criminal found with the body and blamed for the crime. Following the trial, Mitch's worst fears come true when he realizes that he acquitted a guilty man, and he soon finds himself on the hunt for the killer before more victims pile up.

VOD is where it’s at these days. In recent weeks, various titles have been scheduled to land on-demand before opening in theaters, from Lars von Trier’s four-hour-long sex epic Nymphomaniac to the Sharlto Copley-starring mind-bender Open Grave. The trend seems like it’ll only continue growing through next year, with simultaneous VOD-theatrical release dates being added to the calendar on a daily basis.
One film taking that road to release is Reasonable Doubt, which stars Dominic Cooper and Samuel L. Jackson. Today, we have the first trailer for the movie, clearing up a few plot aspects and promising a very fast-moving thriller. Check it out below:
Though the film’s plot reminds me an awful lot of The Lincoln Lawyer, the presence of capable stars like Cooper and Jackson suggest that Reasonable Doubt might turn out decently. The trailer certainly plays up the cat-and-mouse angle, as well...

One of the hardest working men in showbiz, Samuel L. Jackson's indie drama Reasonable Doubt, which he stars in alongside Dominic Cooper and Gloria Reuben, has been picked up by Lionsgate (Us rights), for a 2014 release. The $8 million German-Canadian co-production, shot over 27 days in November and December last year, in Winnipeg and Chicago, was written by Peter Dowling, and directed by Peter Howitt. It centers on an up-and-coming assistant D.A. (Cooper) who has his life turned upside down when he's involved in a hit and run and another man (Jackson) is arrested for his crime and charged with murder. The film, a co-production between Paradox...

From the director of "Antitrust" and co-writer of "Flightplan"! Excited yet?! Those are the best endorsements the marketing people could muster for "Reasonable Doubt," a new legal thriller that has managed to get both Samuel L. Jackson and Dominic Cooper into the cinematic jury box. Written by Peter A. Dowling (responsible for those aforementioned movies) and directed by Peter P. Croudins (who has no other IMDb credits), this overcooked drama follows a rising District Attorney who prosecutes a hit-and-run crime that he actually committed, but throws the case to make sure the wrongfully accused man gets off. The twist? That man is a killer and must be stopped before...well, you get it. Seemingly tailor-made for DVD bargain bins and late night cable runs, this one looks pretty tepid overall and something that even Ashley Judd would've passed on. "Reasonable Doubt" hits theaters and VOD on January 17, 2014.

Despite the release date placement of this new thriller Reasonable Doubt, the presence of Dominic Cooper and Samuel L. Jackson actually have me giving it a second glance. The first trailer for the film makes it feel like a thriller that wouldn't be out of place in the 90s, as a District Attorney who thinks he's responsible for killing a man in a hit and run accident, inadvertently sets free the accused killer, thinking he's innocent. The only downside here is that the trailer seems to give away the whole movie, unless there's a twist that will save it. Still, this one looks better than most of the films coming to theaters early next year. Here's the first trailer for Peter P. Croudins' Reasonable Doubt, originally from Yahoo: Reasonable Doubt is directed by newcomer Peter P. Croudins and written by Peter A. Dowling (Flightplan). When up-and-coming District Attorney Mitch...

As a great lover of legal thrillers, I feel a significant measure of confidence in saying that my excitement for the upcoming film Reasonable Doubt is justified. Opening in January, the film boasts two stellar lead actors, Dominic Cooper and Samuel L. Jackson, as well as a seriously intriguing hook.
Four new images from Reasonable Doubt that were released today don’t add much to what we already know about the project, but they do introduce how all of the film’s main players will look.
Reasonable Doubt follows up-and-coming District Attorney Mitch Brockden (Cooper), who is involved in a fatal hit-and-run and flees the scene of the crime. When Brockden finds himself representing an accused criminal (Jackson) who was found with the body and is being tried for murder, the Da can’t fathom sending a man to prison in his place and instead throws the case. Next year we'll see Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter star Dominic Cooper in some big blockbusters like DreamWorks' Need for Speed, and apparently in some kind return as Howard Stark in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But earlier in the year, the actor will lead a low key thriller called Reasonable Doubt. Funnily enough, the film also features Marvel regular Samuel L. Jackson in the story of a District Attorney (Cooper) who has his life turned upside down when he's involved in a hit and run and another man is arrested for his crime and charged with murder. But it's what happens after the trial that makes for a truly terrifying scenario for this Da. Now we have some first look photos from the early 2014 thriller just below. Here's a first look at Peter P. Croudins' Reasonable Doubt via Collider: Reasonable Doubt is directed by newcomer Peter P. Croudins and written...
