– Kino Lorber has acquired the North American rights to Bill Morrison’s “Dawson City: Frozen Time,” about the true history of a collection of 533 reels of film (representing 372 titles) dating from the 1910s to 1920s, which were lost for over 50 years until being discovered buried in a sub-arctic swimming pool deep in the Yukon Territory. The film tells the unique history of a Canadian gold rush town and how cinema, capitalism and history intersect.

John Stockwell (“Blue Crush”) directed from Matt Savelloni’s script, which follows a team of highly trained operatives who find themselves trapped inside an isolated military compound after its artificial intelligence is suddenly shut down. The crew begins to experience strange and horrific phenomena as they attempt to uncover what killed the previous team.
The film is currently in post-production. It was originally called “Temple” as part of a three-film deal announced in 2015 between WWE and Simmons.

Investigation Discovery is headed deep into scripted territory. The Discovery-owned network has ordered six-part true crime drama “The Von Bulow Affair” from Universal Cable Productions for a 2018 run on ID.
“Von Bulow” is among a whopping 660 hours of original programming that ID has on tap for the 2017-18 frame. The channel that has been the biggest success story in the Discovery family of the past seven years will also offer up its first scripted telepics and a range of docu series.
The channel that thrives on a diet of murder and mayhem has partnered with mystery writer James Patterson on an unusual initiative that will see Patterson write non-fiction books about murder cases covered in ID programming. ID will then turn those books into scripted productions. Patterson’s partnership with ID also includes the “Murder is Forever” true-crime series that debuts later this year.
